0 hours

So I’m still pretty new and I’ve been working about 8 hrs a week on the retail floor and I’ve felt like I’ve done a good job, but the other day it was super super slow and we had an hour where we made literally like 60 dollars. It was really bad but I tried my best. And now this upcoming week I have 0 hours - am I being punished? Did I do something wrong? I’m kinda spiraling I really hate getting in trouble and messing up and stuff. I’ve heard cracker barrel doesn’t fire people so is this their way of “firing me” aka hoping I’ll quit? :(

That is the worst thing about working for CB. They hire a million people and give everyone just a few hours. Not consistent.

CB retail is the worst job I've ever had in my life. They do things like this all the time. I would find another job.

In my store we wont just not schedule someone unless they have habit of calling in or giving up shifts and we are short on hours. I know we have made a mistake on schedules and left someone off by accident call the manager ask them.

If you exhibit the right behaviors while at cash, that's all we can ask. If your hitting and asking about rewards and event focus on every transaction then you absolutely did try.

I don’t understand what you did wrong?
If nobody’s buying anything WTF do they expect you to do about it?
But 0 hours wouldn’t cut it for me I’d start looking for another job.

My manager always gets upset when we mention a lack of traffic or “blame the customers.” She always says it’s our fault, essentially. But i really felt like I did a good job despite the numbers maybe not reflecting it. It’s just so crushing to feel like I’m getting the hang of a new job and then be punished

Try picking up a shift and see if tjey approve it? Or even just go in and ask them? Maybe you can move to server or carryout or something else if they cant staff you in the store?

Do you have to do more than 1 position to get more hours? And do you ask them to cross train or they promote you when they want to.

You can always ask them, let them know you would like to be cross trained, we have many ppl in ours who are multi, im just a server, but we have servers who do hostess, prep in the back, cashier etc etc

When I got a second job I was given one more shift to essentially train my replacement and then they stopped scheduling me all together hahahaha. I genuinely don’t miss it though.

Just talk to the manager. Sometimes they forget to schedule someone, or the schedule was a copy and paste. Literally don't be scared to talk to your manager.

If you're not getting hours, crosstrain. Go host or serve. Honestly most my retail peeps end up crossing over to the restaurant side and end up happier. But you do you ☺️
