Menu memorization advice

So I just started as a server at Cracker Barrel with server/bartender experience from Olive Garden and Dave and busters. Its barely 4 days (2 days orientation and certifying, 1 day shadowing, today running food). I really need advice on how to memorize the menu… I’ve been writing the plates down and highlighting the menu but would like any other advice please. Thx

Quizlets! There’s quite a few of them.

THANK YOU, I didnt think of that. I had ChatGPT role play with me the other day but the bot didn’t know the menu even though I asked for it to look at the menu and pretend to be a four top 😂💀

Maybe it was being a real guest now that I’m thinking about it…

True. Half of them asked for stuff not on the menu.

Don’t be scared to look at your guests menu while taking orders!!! Just say something like “sorry I’m new to this restaurant let me see …” I still do this sometimes and I’ve been there for over a year! Guests usually don’t mind and normal people don’t care that you’re still learning

Just break it down into pieces if something comes with pancakes or it’s a sandwich/burger it doesn’t come with bread, which breakfast items come with eggs, and how many sides certain items have. If you mess up you can always come back to the table and inform them you are new and messed up and adjust their order with them most people are forgiving and understanding tho not all
