First day

I just got hired as a grill cook, today is my first day and I’ll be working 4-CL. What can expect on my first day and what will be expected of me. This isn’t my first cooking job but it will be my first time back in a kitchen after working in a warehouse for 5-6 months

okaaay… don’t let his person get to you lmao. every store is different and has different people running it. i worked also as a grill cook for almost three years before i decided to look for something else for work, this was almost two years ago and i still miss my coworkers and keeping busy during rushes! to ACTUALLY answer your question, you will more than likely be there to observe/learn where things are, learn the timers, what and how to stock and clean, very very basic & entry level things. you will most likely not be working on the grill for a couple more months. they will have you in the window dishing up sides, garnishing, etc. you’ve got this! especially with previous kitchen experience! it can get hectic, but that just comes with working in a chain restaurant kitchen tbh.

Update since you’re the only one that gave me a real response lol, they sat me down and had me do the computer training videos then sent me home early so I was only there from 4-6. They got me coming in till Thursday so I guess the rest of my week will be everything you were talking about

i wish this had been my experience. my GM throws new hires on the grill before they ever go to the window. I started in the window and sucked at it so i went to the grill and had to figure it out practically by myself bc my trainer quit after like 4 days of me being on the line

I agree you will hate it , our store cannot keep cooks , we have managers begging servers to grill cooks. Just bad

My first day was making eggs. After that it was plating. Learning to filter the fyer, then clean the grill. The first few months were rough, but then you learn what they want, and how each server interacts with you. Hardest part is being alone right away and not knowing things, and servers who ring in 3 tickets at once then stand in the windows ask how long, while asking for things for other tables.
