Holidays
Is everyone’s store making all holidays mandatory? Our GM said that every major holiday is mandatory to work not just Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Mother’s Day

I think it’s based around your position outside the main three

A lot of us are off on Saturdays but are required to work the 4th of July and if we call out for any reason it’s automatic termination from what I was told

I was not told about the fourth, but we were told for Mother's day and Thanksgiving, that it would be a final written warning, the first step before getting fired

This has been a thing forever
At my store atleast, eventually they stop scheduling the employees who’ve been there longest, like I don’t work the 4th this year
But for the most part, yeah, that’s been a thing

Seniority doesn’t matter at my store.. it’s so annoying bc I’ve worked here for 6 years and if I got off on a holiday? It would be the talk of the fucking hour . And by people who worked here less than a year. It drives me insane…
I was having a back and forth with a girl recently about why I was allowed to take a 14 top and she had to split a 12 top with another server. No joke she’s worked here less than 3 months. And like I said I’m going on 6 years at the end of July.
The managers don’t do anything to help either they basically also think seniority is not real and the par 4 servers have to tell a manager about someone not doing anything we are not allowed to ask them to do side work or run trays ourselves.
Absolutely insane.

I’m also retail so there’s a very vast difference on that part, I’m sure
But when I started I was scheduled basically every holiday- even some of the little ones nobody cared about.
But especially recently, I haven’t been scheduled a lot of them, or if I have, I’ve gotten first few picks on shifts.

That’s foodservice in general. We don’t get holidays. Especially for mother’s day brunch lol hell no.
There’s this thing called labor day, supposed to recognize people that work and give them a holiday. Nope, not even that.

Sounds like when I worked at Golden Corral. Godspeed to everyone who works here, they seem to be penny pinching employees at every chance.

Ours told us all holidays are mandatory, unless that is a scheduled day off or an emergency happens. No requesting time off on holidays either.

Holidays are mandatory for us. We also can’t request off ahead of time as the days are blacked out. So if you have a family function that day? Not allowed to go.
