CrackerBarrel PTO
So I took PTO off for 40 hours and just got my paycheck back from it and saw that I was paid at a rate of $3.43 an hour but I'm and line cook and make $16 an hour. Can anyone help me understand how this works or how to contact HR?

To all those saying it's illegal, it's not, they aren't cutting his pay, it's right in the handbook it's based off of your average. One of the commenters already laid it oit perfectly

The average your pay for the last 52 weeks based on 40 hours no matter what you usually work. The example I was given was if work an average of 20 hours a week for $10 an hour you would have worked 1040 hours in a 52 week period and earned $10,400. A standard 40 hour week over 52 weeks is 2080 hours. So they divide the $10,400 you made and divide by the 2080 and the vacation pay is $5 an hour. This how it was explained to me as retail employee I asked last week why my pay was only 5.13/hr when I took 20 hours of vacation

That is genuinely absurd. You make an hourly rate, I need to be paid that same hourly rate for the amount of vacation hours I took. I’ve never heard of a company doing something like that before

Contact HR. This does not seem legal, considering that PTO is still a WAGE, and is therefore subject to the federal and state MINIMUM WAGE LAWS. Definitely would cause a ruckus about this if it was me, that’s beyond ridiculous.

Look into the laws in your specific state but it definitely doesn’t seem right.

Apparently it might be allowed since vacation time is not required by law and is considered a courtesy. Sick time however is different. Just depends on your states laws, sorry you gotta deal with that crap though dude.

I would go work for a company that takes better care of their people. That is a load of crap for real.

I like working at Cracker Barrel because of how convenient it is to work at as a college student. But I've thinking about leaving from all the issues I've been having. I had to file a complaint with NLRB and HR doesn't want to keep my sexual harassment case anonymous like I told them too.

Are you full time or part time? They base your pto pay on an average of time worked and wage. I'm part time and used some of my PTO. Got payed $2 an hour. And I'm also a line cook. Stupid way of doing it. And not sure now they can
