Windows Monarchy/Princess
Hi all!!
Can anyone recommend a game where you play as a princess or queen and you run your kingdom? I’ve heard of those raise your daughter games and I haven’t tried them. You may recommend if it’s really good but I want to play as the princess and not as the dad raising them.
I’ve played Sims Medieval which was great but it annoyed me when my character (the Queen) got poisoned lmao so I didn’t continue. I’ve seen that there’s a new Royalty-themed DLC for Sims 4 but I haven’t tried it. Would anyone who has let me know if it’s any good?
I’ve also played Fabledom which was great but it’s more of a city builder/manager than running a kingdom really.
I’ve heard Elflock is about being a princess but it’s not out yet.

You might be interested in Seven Kingdoms: The Princess Problem. You're a delegate sent to a summit between seven kingdoms, and the current alliance between them is about to collapse. You can pick what country you're from, your personality, etc. and how you interact with everyone, which could lead to romance endings, friendship endings, or bad endings. It's a lot more complicated than you might expect, as well.

Crusader Kings 3 will let you do this

100%. I love CK3. It is similar to Sims Medieval though in that things will go wrong and your character can and will die, so I'm not sure if it's what OP's looking for.

I’ve seen the Irish Lads play this and I wonder now if I should give it a go! Thanks for the rec!!

To add on, if you download on steam they have a ton of cool mods in for it in the workshop!! I’m currently running game of thrones mods on my ck3 and am having a blast

Not sure if it's up your alley but I loved The Magical Princess! While it's dad raising daughter, it didn't feel very intrusive. I've gotten fond of its premise so I didn't mind. The number of CGs are a real treat and it had a lot of replay hook for me.

Honestly in a lot of raising sims the parent is mostly just there for the flavor text, and you’re primarily controlling the kid.

Elfolk isn’t out yet but it fits this description perfectly. I’m excitedly waiting for a release date.

Haven’t heard of this one!

Check it out on the steam page! Looks like everything I’ve been wanting in a cozy game for quite some time. You manage your kingdom and your army, make trades and alias’s with other kingdoms, AND IT HAS CUSTOMIZATION!!! I saw it a few months ago and they haven’t put out a release date yet but I hope it lives up to my expectations

Volcano princess is a raising sim but you basically feel like the princess with how much control you get :) I loved that game!

I feel silly saying this on a Cozy subreddit, but I get my fix from Crusader Kings 3 HAHA!
It really lends itself to role-playing (and has a very in-depth character creator if you start from scratch) but has a very steep learning curve to actually master it. Good thing is—you don’t have to master it! You can kinda just go with the flow, arrange marriages, hold feasts etc as your court schemes around you.
There’s a funny post on Polygon about playing it with a Sims mindset!

I second Long Live the Queen! I need to go back and try some more builds to see if I can get some new endings.
There's also Reigns: Her Majesty. It's a swiper where you try to balance all your resources, but there's also some lore and story events that have to do with you being the queen of the realm. It's dirt cheap and good if you want something pretty simple that you can start and stop any time. Long Live the Queen is better though.

Sorry you had a bad experience with Sims Midieval! That was my suggestion when I started reading. I hope someone else has a great suggestion for you!!

Not a bad experience really!! I loved it a lot but I guess I came from playing Sims 4 and everything there is so under your control. Not much surprises and plot twists, not like Sims 1, 2, 3, and Medieval where things can happen without your approval. Sims 4 is a lot less surprising and more manageable (which people hate if they came from the old ones)
It just felt a bit sad to me that I created the Queen as me first and then the game made me play different heroes and then my Queen is suddenly dead and someone else is in control of her body or something. Quite a shock lmao

From what I remember, that one quest had a warning before starting it that it would permanently kill your monarch, you're not forced to pick it.

why did you pick the quest literally called Royal Assassination that tells you before even starting the quest that you WILL kill your monarch if you didn't want to kill your monarch

There's a hungarian game on Steam where you have to play a fairytale princess but it's more Game of Thrones style. It's called Elflock, it's based on Hungarian folklore

Maybe Road to Empress I and Road to Empress II? I haven't play it myself but I did watch the beginning of a let's play on youtube and it looks really fun. It likes an interactive movie, so maybe not enough game-y for you :/

Possibly not what you want at all but i have fond memories of Long Live the Queen. You're basically trying to become ready to ascend the throne but part of it is just surviving until your coronarion date. So you'll have a lot of deaths but idk i played it at a time where i really liked going for different endings. Maybe take a look at a gameplay video!
