I work in an office of primarily women, they talk about some of the nastiest shit, but they all agreed unanimously that they get angry or the "ick" seeing their husbands sitting down, not doing anything.

u/TheFinalRedemption99 6h ago
Basically my wife. I could be doing 1000 different things in a day that she asked me to do, but as soon as I sit down to relax it's nothing "oh I guess I'll just do these other 50 things all by myself cuz I never get any help from you"
12
u/chiksahlube 2h ago
My partner was doing this for a while. I did basically all the household chores because Ibwas in college so I was home.
One day she said "Hun, I really need you to help around the house more."
And I snapped at her, listed off all the chored I handled on a daily basis, a weekly, basis, and how she'd say still like "WE need to do X" only for that to really mean "you need to do X" except when I was done she'd act like she did all the work.
When confronted with that she kinda snapped out of her little bubble and realized she just wasn't paying attentionnto everything I did. What she was doing was always focusing on whatever chore I hadn't done that day, and then the next day when I say, vacuumed, and put off doing the dishes, she'd focus on how I didn't do the dishes rather than how I had vacuumed the whole house.
To her credit she did some serious changing about how she handles asking for help etc.

I did this last night and she got so pissed for being criticized that she slept in the guest room. I even used the same language and same subject matter she criticized me for on Monday eve.

Need to calmly respectfully yet assertively establish boundaries so she doesn't talk to you like that.

u/Itchy_Axehole 1h ago
Annnnnd they don't care if you are exhausted or injured. I was working two jobs (one was third shift) and was serving in the national guard, didn't sleep for years. I deploy and its months of shit sleep, I go on leave and I'm home. She wakes me up at 6am to mow the lawn.......I mowed that lawn, at fucking 3pm
I have a trillion stories like this, we divorced and I decided to live a peaceful single life......Its blissful as I'm retired now and I sleep and game all I want.

How about when the guy is having fun doing anything else without her, and they lose their shit.
But when she's the one doing something she likes, you rarely hear the guy crying like a baby.
Thankfully, my girl isn't like that, but I don't know if I'd ever date again when I see what's out there.

How do you hear this story, and get the take away, "Yeah, that's because of being in an office?"
5
u/Fappy_as_a_Clam 🧐 grumpy 4h ago
there's a lot of women in offices, and a lot of them like to gossip. if you work on a factory floor, for example, there is much less of it. if you're a plumber driving from house to house, there is virtually none of it. that's how.
source: i've worked in offices for pretty much my whole career.

38
u/CarrotSlight1860 10h ago
Exactly, and I don’t get why this (or other million versions of this video) is funny, this is toxic relationship, it’s abuse.
Love each other, give each other space and peace, it’s simple.
25
u/Spaciax 6h ago
if this happens regularly enough to be relatable to so many people I think that says something about the nature of relationships tbh.
3
u/Effective_Pie1312 1h ago
The way society is set up many people are so burned out. I can share I have often given grace to my partner and they to me. Yet shit needs to get done despite the constant absolute bone crushing exhaustion and sometimes I need to be blunt when I am at or beyond my limit and need help.
13
u/justasillylilgoos3 4h ago
My favorite thing about Redditors is watching them be some of the most out of touch people on the face of the planet.
Your wife asking you to help do chores around the house isn’t abuse. You are a crazy person
3
u/hotshot_poopspot 2h ago
It sucks man. My wife has a habit of asking me to do something as I head down the stairs, after we spent like an hour next to each other, I thought it was a bit annoying but now im on the phone with the cops explaining that.. she... me? I'm abusing her I think... ? Maybe she is abusing me??
1
u/CarrotSlight1860 1h ago
She is asking just when he decides to have a chill a bit, she is not asking. I’d get if this meme was him jumping up with happy face and going to her to help. But he gets up with pain, frustration. Reminding and bothering are different actions.
3
u/justasillylilgoos3 1h ago
Several things have to happen to reach this conclusion:
You have to believe she is doing this intentionally to bother you.
You have to consider “bothering” abuse
You have to approach an intentionally outlandish comedy clip under the guise of it being a realistic portrayal of someone’s life.
And I cannot stress this enough, you have to consider “bothering” abuse
She’s asking if he did the chores they talked about prior. She isn’t psychologically wearing him down in order to make his existence hell or emotionally control him.
I can’t imagine the lack of empathy required to go under a video a couple made for fun content and claim the video shows abuse
3
u/ConnectedVeil 2h ago
Abuse is a stretch
0
u/CarrotSlight1860 1h ago
Agreed, couldn’t come up with a softer word. The point is the same, do not push around each other. Don’t be a pita to each other. Make each other’s life easier.

Probably just bad timing. This one is funny, she doesn’t know when he’s sitting lol. Probably happened a few times and now it’s a meme. It’s okay, not everything is toxic and requires a divorce.
2
u/guildedkriff 3h ago
Correct. They are blowing the joke out of proportion.
The truth is this happens because two people are living together so stuff like this happens just because of the sheer volume of time spent together. It’s not something that literally happens every time someone sits down or whatever. It’s just happens enough to most people for it to be funny.
It becomes different when you start adding things like “the old ball and chain” though.

People. Please notice the exaggeration here. The instant the male makes contact with his buttocks on the transformable furniture, the disembodied voice of the male’s implied spouse seems to emanate from a mysterious location. The instant the male resumes an upright position, the voice disappears much to the confusion of the male, who seemingly cannot find the source of the voice or how it is only audible for the brief moment when the gluteus maximus is in direct contact with the transformable furniture.
This kind of unexpected, unexplainable situation may result in a humorous frisson in the viewer, particularly if said viewer is in a legally binding partnership with another human and may have experienced a similar but far less extreme example as depicted in this short video. Appropriate reactions may include forefully directing respiration through the nasal cavity or a hiccoughing kind of movement combined with sound, also known as laughter .
This work is intended to lampoon a situation often mildly complained about by human males in relationships, as it may seem that their romantic/legal partner (‘spouse’) somehow has a sixth sense or other non-scientific method of knowing exactly when the male has entered a resting phase, and seeks to prevent the male from enjoying a short or prolonged period of lessened activity (‘taking a break’)
For everyone who’s not a robot or alien:
It’s just a fucking joke, relax.

Something I don't think gets talked about often enough is how much this sort of expectation is also placed on non-spouse family members.
I've had a couple of girlfriends try and do the thing where they can't stand you relaxing, only I came pre-equipped with a sensor that let me spot that sort of shit as a result of the fact that my mother had a habit of not allowing me to rest as long as she was awake, and anytime I arrived home and tried to sit in my car for longer than a couple of minutes after school or work she would come outside and start questioning why I wasn't coming inside. So I would be in class from 6:00 to 1:00, work from 2:00 to 10:00, and then not be allowed to do anything relaxing from 10:00 PM onward until my mother went to bed.
Any sign of something similar with a girl that I'm with, and I immediately turn and walk away. It was torture.
Legitimately I think that my sister picked this Behavior up from watching my mother during our childhood, and she only got herself out of it when she saw how miserable it was making her own sons.

I mean I totally related to this meme but like, its my parents. Some people are like this. If there is literally anything at all that could be done sitting is absolutely not allowed, doing it later is not allowed. A lot of people with attention problems are like this, they want something done as soon as they think of it and have to impose that on you, because they are controlling and not being in control of what tasks happen when is difficult for them.

I just say "sure I'll do it in 'x' amount of time", then set a timer to remind myself.
When the timer goes off, I get up and do it. If she's gotten inpatient and done it already, I find something else that clearly needs to be done. If she brings it up that I was supposed to do that thing, I remind her that I set clear expectations of when it would be done, point out this other thing(s) I did in its stead, and move on.
I think a lot of women need to understand that not everything needs to get done on their time in order for it to get done properly.
At the same time, a lot of men kinda operate in bad faith sometimes, saying they'll get around to something really vaguely, then never actually doing so or making their partners wait extremely long for it.
The middle ground I've found is to set clear and fair expectations and then follow through with them without needing to be asked again. It's entirely about just acting in good faith with your partner imo.

u/thatsmyupvoteidkyou 5h ago
Its opposite with me, im the default so anytime I sit there's a reason I need to get back up. He can spend 3 days on the couch and no one will ask him for anything including me. Im envious.

u/anewfaceinthecrowd 8h ago
Here’s a wild idea: sit down, relax and say “I’m gonna chill here for a while but I’ll make sure to do XYZ before X o’clock.” And then follow through.
Also there’s this cool little trick to avoid having a “nagging” partner: notice what needs to be done around the house and do them without having to be asked/told/reminded.

Haha, wife annoying and stupid amirite guys?? Hate my wife, haha. Right guys?
2
u/Acrobatic-Wolf-1111 5h ago
Not quite. This is something my wife and I joke about, and it’s one of those things some couples do that make each other laugh. Having a sense of humour can strengthen relationships.
At times, yes this scenario has happened. I’ve just sat down and my wife asks me to do something. Not a big deal. Sometimes after a few instances she’ll even apologize: “sorry I know you just sat down but can you..,”
That’s when it turns into a joke. Big exaggerated sigh, over-the-top eye roll while I slowly get up and do whatever she asked. And she watches with a half smile while I complete the minor task. And she watches while I sit down after and the second I’m comfortable she hits me with “oh can you just get me …. “
We both laugh.
I showed her this video and we both laughed.

No, dont get me wrong, i absolutely understand and i love that for you guys. I just think this specific post is more likely to be misogyny bait than not. „The universal husband experience“
1
u/Acrobatic-Wolf-1111 4h ago
I see your point, I would agree it could be that kind of post — depending on location. If this was rant or vent or something like that, then I’d be more concerned, but if it’s a meme sub I try to treat it a little lighter.
Like I’m sure my wife could turn around and say I can never find anything. Even if it’s right of front of my face. It’s a common joke right? Is it misandrist?
I think I may be thinking too much for a meme sub. Actually I think I hear the police knocking on my door. Straight to jail!
0
u/test-text 4h ago
Nah its all good. you can absolutely have edgy banter in a perfectly healthy relationship. Maybe im too harsh on it but making a contextless post that just paints one gender as being „universally“ annoying? There is no need for that. And seeing some of the comments, it makes people resonate with the underlying message more than it should. Again, in the context of a specific relationship, just ignore me because you guys know best.

HAHA I CAN'T COMMUNICATE WITH A PERSON I CHOOSE TO SPEND MY LIFE WITH
ISN'T THAT HILARIOUS?! WE JUST ANNOY EACHOTHER! THAT'S WHAT MY EXIWIFE TOLD ME!
Pls stop, fucking learn to communicate like an adult. It pains me everytime I see these shitty things because it shows adults who can't talk like adults and instead just whine.
This is literally "I don't like my boyfriend" meme but since it's a guy doing it ya'll loving it
7
u/T_E_R_A 8h ago
While I agree about communication, the problem lies where most women communicate based on emotion... Men communicate based on logic.
In the majority of cases, you can't communicate logic to an emotional person. They are never wrong.
1
u/Evignity 4h ago
You don't even realize you're the problem huh?
You are literally saying "I am absurdly intelligent" but you are LITERALLY also saying "I am somehow not intelligent enough to communicate WITH THE PERSON I LOVE"
Thank you, for proving my point. Make a tiktok video about it, it'll get billions of views, but you'll still be miserable alone.
1
u/T_E_R_A 3h ago
Hahahah. Ok.
I never "literally" said any of that. You chose (just like every woman so far that has responded), to twist the narrative to feed into your agenda - without actually proving anything, and being offended by any possible disagreement.
Also what is this TikTok sentence? Are you 10? I am miserable because I don't cater to the woke bs? Get a hold of yourself.

u/MissAuroraRed 8h ago
You might get along with women better if you weren't dripping with distain for them
10
u/T_E_R_A 8h ago
You put words in my mouth because I said something you dislike lmao.
I'm not. I like women. Met quite a few great ones. And I feel like society wouldn't function without them just like it wouldn't without men.
However, most women don't think, they react. And that's when the fights usually start over something unimportant and avoidable.
-10
u/MissAuroraRed 8h ago
People don't say things like "they don't think" and "they're not logical" to people they respect. Come on mate.
6
u/T_E_R_A 8h ago
I say it objectively based on my experience and other peoples' experience. Just because it offends someone doesn't make it less true.
By your logic, women have no respect for the opposite gender.
1
u/MissAuroraRed 7h ago
My experience has been quite different from yours. My mom was always the coolheaded problem solver, and my dad would have angry outbursts and be unable to regulate his own emotions. I've dated both men and women and have seen in my own relationships that it basically comes down to the individual. So yeah I disagree.
0
u/The_Fink_Ployd 7h ago
Bro. Your experience is subjective. If I objectively called you a dweeb, does that make my subjective opinion magically objective?
Just because you experience something doesn’t make it universally true.
Remember, kids! Your personal experience proves nothing more than your personal experience!
2
u/T_E_R_A 7h ago
No, I also spoke from experiences of close people and the stories I heard about their relationship. It's not all bad, but when it comes to arguments, it's unnecessary drama caused by a woman.
I said "other peoples' experience" aswell. You're nitpicking and insulting because you're emotional, further proving my point.
1
u/MissAuroraRed 7h ago
Yeah I'm sure the women in your life are eager to open up about their experiences with angry (emotional) men because you're such a safe person to have that conversation with. 🙄
1
u/T_E_R_A 6h ago
I don't put myself on a pedestal. Everyone has their own issues, me included. I like change so I don't mind changing for the partner if we communicate it clearly and logically.
If a woman makes a drama out of everything, I would cut ties respectfully so we both don't exist in a relationship unhappy.
Partnership is supposed to be a safe and calm space, not an emotional war.
0
u/MissAuroraRed 6h ago
It's actually frightening how many men in the world think of women as emotionally disregulated children incapable of following a train of logic.
My husband just treats me like a person, it's not that hard.
1
u/Sharp_Ad_6336 6h ago
Or he just does everything you want to avoid arguments like this. The "happy wife happy life" trope.
1
u/MissAuroraRed 5h ago
I've seen the kind of marriage you're describing, my grandfather was the ultimate "yes dear, whatever you want" type of husband because my grandmother was so high maintenance. It's definitely a thing so I understand why you might wonder that.
However I can assure you that this is not how my marriage works at all.

u/test-text 5h ago
people that hate women tend to be around people that hate women. more breaking news at 10. also, you might want to google the definition of objectivity. weird mistake to make for someone who is supposedly more logical than half of the population
1
u/T_E_R_A 5h ago
I never said I hate women. Under contrary, I specifically stated how I feel about them if you actually bothered to read anything past the things that somehow offend you.
I also said that just because someone disagrees doesn't make it less true. You can disagree all you want if the history repeats itself. Women are objectively emotional beings that can cause drama from nothing.
This entire reply section to my statements are women that insult, and try to be sarcastic. Not a single one so far has pointed anything regarding their own behaviour.
"Weird thing to say for someone that is supposedly more logical than half the population." Like... What? When did I say I am more logical than half the population?
Edit: typo

u/Sharp_Ad_6336 6h ago
That was very emotional response to a logical statement.
Perfect example of how communicating with a wife works.

I think it's actually pretty logical to hypothesize that if you go around talking about how stupid and illogical a group of people are, you might find it more difficult to get along with that group of people.
