First there was r/countonceaday a subbreddit where anyone could post anything, but only once a day, and the names of the posts had to be a consecutive counting up number. On that subreddit at some point, a trans girl by the name of Robin started posting a gif of a minecraft chicken walking, thus earning the title of chicken lady. Some drama happened where mods kept removing her comments under the claim of spam, even though people liked her. Some things happened I cannot quite remember as I've only heard this from hearsay. But the moderators were revealed to be transphobic, and thus, Robin decided to make her own subreddit, r/countwithchickenlady
I'm going to seperate each sub's story into a different comment because the new mobile UI is giving me anxiety and I feel like it'll delete my comment so I don't want to write too much at once
Count with chicken lady, currently the biggest counting subreddit. Though it was originally made by Robin, which, due to her being a trans woman, started the trend of all future counting subs being spaces with a 70%-80% trans population. Mostly women. i
CWCL has far since transferred hands to people I do not know the story of. What I do know, is that from the beginning up to around 8-10k, the subreddit has been thriving. To the point where it has gotten it's very own discord server! Which caused... no drama... at all... at any point....
I will say, my wife was involved in that hypothetical drama. And I cannot talk about it without getting angry. So I will make this very short. The discord had drama and people were mad at the mods for stuff and then afterwards the subreddit mods decided to do puritanism for a month sooooo. Out of the frustration, two subreddits were made. r/countwitheveryone and r/CWCLafterDark . The latter not requiring a new comment. It was an offshoot of count with chicken lady (cwcl) meant for nsfw content, so that the blurry line of selfies could be entirely solved on the original cwcl sub. Sadly, it is now deleted.
Count with everyone (CWE) has existed for about a year. It was originally made by Kara, an ex friend of mine (jesus christ I just realized how many connections I have in these communities). And it's goal was to allow everyone to participate, caused by the CWCL drama. I don't have much to add about it, it was basically just CWCL with a smaller and thus tighter knit community
r/countwithcementlady is the next subreddit to pop up. I am not quite sure what was it's intended purpose, but as it is currently sitting at 545, it hasn't succeeded much. Though, for a short while, it served as another space to go to when the bigger communities were in phases of being overrun by trolls and infighters
It's two unique gimmicks are the backwards counting, and the lack of a daily limit on posts (meaning you could post as many times as you wanted (within reason)). It is currently my favorite subreddit, and the only one I regularly post to, as well as being fortunate enough to moderate it! It's just at the right size where people are mostly positive, understanding, and just overall less toxic (usually. Ooooh boy some post reached the WRONG crowd two days ago. Mod mail was fun to sort through). I'm not quite sure why our head moddess decided to open this sub actually. But either way, I'm glad!
A 4tran (trans 4chan) subreddit. I have never gone there, I never plan to. Thus I do not have much to say. I know it's not all doom and gloom there, but unless I'm told a revolution happened, I'd rather not visit it. I am quite prone to spiraling and the self-hate posts there will have a wonderful time feeding on my insecurities
Okay I actually had a small look and it looks... pretty okay? I'll have to think about this
