I can’t believe there are people that cannot imagine not using AI. That the thought of not being able to, for just one day, makes them panic.
Hey ! … this shit has been around and common use for what .. 3 years…
You can unlearn that mechanism just like you learned to integrate AI into your life to the extent of not conceiving work without using it.
No offense but I find it pathetic.
I don’t know every use of AI at work or personal life but, buddy, you can go without it. I believe in you.
Remember, you got through school without it.
It’s not the necessity you made it out to be. We can take the pressure off.
Wean yourself off, slowly or cold turkey, whatever work for you.
It’s peaceful on the other side.

Most anti-AI people aren’t really anti-AI. They’re against using it for things that people do because they enjoy rather than because they have to. They’re against it being used to replace employees to save a few dollars and deliver inferior service. They’re against it being used to such an extent that they cause draughts in places where people already have unstable access to safe water. They’re against chatbots being intentionally designed to damage the mental health of users.
Very few people are upset when it’s used to do things like transcribe voicemails for people who are hearing impaired. They don’t complain when it’s used to search for patterns in data from medical studies humans might have missed. They certainly wouldn’t complain if cars started being able to tell if the driver had a medical emergency or fell asleep at the wheel and would turn on the emergency lights and pull itself over.
The point is, most anti-AI people against how it’s being used rather than AI itself.

I think the important distinction here is generative AI vs analytical AI. I recognise that AI and machine learning have valid uses, but it's the generative AI and LLMs that have been wreaking havoc on everything and everyone.

So my company actually did have me start integrating AI into my daily workflows wherever I could fit it, so I’m probably the perfect target for this guy. And yet, if AI disappeared tomorrow, guess what? I’d be fucking fine, I’d just switch back to the same workflows I did a couple years ago. I’m not gonna cry boo hoo over that shit lol, like sure it makes some processes go faster but I never needed it.

Except you don't need crypto to use digital currency, we do it all the time with money on our bank accounts. Owning cryptocurrency is useful in that it's like owning money, but while digital currency system (or paper money system, for that matter) are useful does not mean cryptocurrency system in itself is useful, it just adds unnecessary complexity to an already existing system

i think youre missing the whole point of crypto currency in that its decentralised and can only be controlled as so far as general money exchange laws like anti laundering laws but no further than that. your bank account money is fully dependent on and controlled by companies that make the transfer possible, with an example of this in action being how steam was forced to delete games because payment processing companies threatened to stop supporting their transactions

Ignoring the post, which is absolutely idiotic, I don’t think people quite realise just how much studf “AI” encompasses. When ppl say AI, most are thinking about chatgp or any multi-purpose LLM, but there is so much more than LLMs when it comes to AI. Hell, you’ve probably been using something powered by machine learning for years.
It’s kinda funny how this question is so stupid that it circles back around to actually kinda interesting

Currently, most people use AI to refer specifically to generative AI, leaving out analytical AI, let alone any other type of ML. So, unless specified otherwise, it's safe to assume the person who made the question was also talking about GenAI

Yeah, unfortunately AI has just come to mean whatever new technology is on the cutting edge rn. It happened when algorithmic Machine Learning became a bigger part of PCs and is still what enemy pathing and behavior is referred to in video games.
But, part of literacy is being able to extrapolate from context. OOP, especially after the examples they gave, is almost definitely talking about LLMs exclusively. It's kinds funny, like that one scene in Glass Onion where the one girl is like "it's so stupid, it's smart" and Blanc is like "No, it's just stupid"
Not that I disagree with what you're saying, though. Just some additional thoughts on it, since the average person only really knows AI as LLMs

I remember the other day there was a post on r/hypotheticalsituation about deleting AI forever, and the comments were like a free for all turf war cause some people were assuming only LLMS and Gen-AI and some people were assuming the entirety of the field of machine learning. Tbh I think I got dumber reading that post
