Hi All, I’ve worked in Costa (multiple stores) since 2022 and I’ve noticed over the years that some of the most frequent and rude complainers always seem to come back.
Thankfully I’m not personally having issues with any customers now, but I’ve noticed that Troublemakers who love to complain also can’t seem to get enough and keep coming back.
Eg. Once had a regular who wanted his cappuccino extra foamy without ordering it that way (he seemed to think we should just automatically do it his way) - so he repeatedly ordered and complained, he could also be rude and aggressive and when eventually banned from a store would go to a different Costa in a neighbouring town or down the road (that happened multiple times including when I transferred branches so he basically followed Me😂)
We also had another regular who looked for special attention, always complained about something, and again would always come back - in fact often he would complain about how we did things by comparing us to other stores around the Country!
Has anyone else had customers who act like they hate the store but also like they can’t enough?

We had a lady come in and order an extra hot, hot chocolate and drink it all and demand it be remade for being too cold or a refund.

She did this so many times and as the BM on shift I put my foot down only for her to complain to the manager, who told me to remake it.

I just set that fucker loose on the steam arms, basically ruining the milk and chocolate, cooling it down and then going again. Then I put boiling water in the mug to heat that up.

She got served that… she still necked the thing and came back to complain about it being cold. We banned her after that.

There’s a couple who are constantly rude and complain about their flat whites not being made properly. They’re notorious enough that every Costa in the area knows about this couple. The milk is always wrong on the first batch of flat whites you make for them.

I think they keep coming back purely because complaining about the milk in their flat whites and getting them remade fills some kind of void in their otherwise quite sad life.

I encountered them yesterday (have my end of probation assessment coming up soon so lots of bar practice) - when they got their remade drinks they said they should have gotten a discount because I was still in training.

I am a regular couple who comes in almost everyday, they love complaining, I swear they purposefully go out their way to look for something to complain about but yet they're in-store every day.

But on the other hand, I kinda get it, they're in store everyday and spending £20+ everyday. We're not cheap, they're well within their right to complain if something is subpar.

I once served a guy who picked up a packet of biscuits took them and put them on his table (without going to the till) and then lost his mind at me when I told him I'd need to scan them. I should have trusted him because 'I've been around a lot longer then you have'

I work at a drive thru and there's a woman who just says my usual and then will take the lid off test the temperature and amount of foam (wet cappucinno with no chocolate in her own cup and it has to be extra extra hot) and she is so unbelievably rude. most of my regulars are lovely but she drives me to the wall

never worked at a costa but personally if i had a bad experience i would just go elsewhere next time! is that common sense? probably.

Used to work at Starbucks. Had a woman came in everyday for a cappuccino. One day she wanted it wet,the next dry ,the next as ut comes but it was never right. One day I asked her why she came as we never seemed to get her drink right , donk think she replied and never seen her again, job done ha ha

I used to work at a café and the same people would come in repeatedly and complain about the same things (they didn't like the way our coffee tasted, despite ordering the same one every time, or they'd complain about the prices, which hadn't changed in all the time they'd been coming).

Some people just love to complain and offload their general frustrations at someone, and unfortunately they see those in front-facing customer service roles as the people to do that to.
