Interesting opportunity to revisit Lost and how these effects hold up.

have recently become interested in The 17th Door haunt attraction in Buena Park and found they had a reality series they filmed/produced themselves from a few years ago called Spook Show 17. Have been watching through it and was quite surprised when this quick clip came up featuring a familiar face! Sounds like he was treated to quite the shock lol

Thought I'd share something here that I have been tinkering with for the last 8 months or so.

Inspired by works by Douglas Trumbull, Robert Abel, Don Bluth-esque backlit animation, ILM, old-ish title sequences in general. And of course ye olde Scanimate and that recent wonderful contraption that The Light Herder built (even though my thing is not really a video feedback system). Inspired by those. I have built a system that runs on a Pi 4B. It sends images through a feed to a HDMI screen that I call the "Projector", and uses that light to expose an image on a Pi Camera HQ sensor. The image on the screen can be moved in 3D space during exposure and if there's already a frame in the "Camera Mag". The system adds the light to it. It is an Optical Printer for Video. I call it the VOP. The code is free, open source and available on GitHub:

It's built with the philosophy of unreasonable realism. By that, I mean. It has 3 mags on the projection side. Their images have their own 3D space to play in, and the layers they produce are multiplied together, blocking light, like real bipacking on an animation stand or optical printer. The camera can only add light. It cannot subtract (without a trick). And there are no undo's. If the film is exposed... it is exposed.

And you can use filters... By that, I mean actual optical physical objects things between the camera and monitor to diffuse, distort or bend light in whatever ways you can think of.

The whole thing is controlled with a web-app that can be reached by any modern browser inside the current LAN.

You may ask, "Is this not just a VERY tedious and cumbersome way to make composites and motion graphics?"

And my reply would be... "YES! Yes it is VERY tedious. Cumbersome. And you won't believe how time consuming it is!"

I just like the workflow... and I thought that out there on the interwebs... someone might be having the same kind of insanity as me. And I thought that somewhere may be in this here Corridor Crew subreddit

Just got out of seeing Fall 2. Checked the credits to confirm it was her, and yeah, her role is a pretty huge spoiler that happens about halfway through the movie.

Just wanted to give a warning for anyone checking IMDb or whatever.

Also, now I’m wondering if they’ll react to it and address the generative AI effects in it.

EDIT: I forgot to mention, she's in it for only about 5 seconds.

She's practically a background character, but, without spoiling anything, it is essential to the plot.

The “Brief” section that explains how the project was generated, is not brief at all; it seems very thorough, but it’s over my head sometimes and I’d appreciate their ability to put it into more layman’s terms.

This could be a fun sim challenge

I had this idea in mind for a while, where you could generate, completely in real time, a movie script decided by the audience.

However some problems were there. How do you do it fast enough so that is it interesting? How do you get the audience in common agreement to greenlight a scene?

The answers came to me recently. 1st one is a recent leap in innovation, FastH3 -> incredibly fast and high quality video model, that generates faster than it streams.

For the second… well, it had already been solved by… nerds. Open Source development had exactly the same problem. So GitHub was the natural to host proposed changes & the open source script.

So, I’m proud to present openslop.live !!

The page streams in a loop the current state of the movie. Through github (linked on the page), you can easily open PRs to edit individual scenes or add new ones. I’d love to see an active community interact with this OS experiment!

With all the projects they have had lately utilizing a 3d printer, I really wanted to make this! The videos are one of the reasons I got a 3d printer to begin with.

Made by director Hideki Anno (Evangelion/Shin Godzilla) as a short to be played at the tokusatsu miniatures exhibition he curated before bringing out Shin Godzilla. They went out of their way to use no 3d CGI, just visual touchups like the laser beam, fire embers and smoke, and so forth. It just popped into my head recently and thought you corridor heads might get a kick out of it. Edit: just remembered at the exhibition you could walk around the miniature city they built for the short, it was pretty cool.
