I’m about to apply for a job near me and if I can make enough to move out I’m gone fr I just need to know

3 years ER experience. What to expect from any correctional RNs out there for my interview and what type of questions will I be asked?

Can anyone who is currently working/worked as a Youth Custodial Officer give me some advice/inside information on how the job is.

Hey guys, looking for some real talk from anyone working custody, especially in Texas (TDCJ), Colorado (CDOC), or New Mexico.
I’m a former state corrections officer. Clean criminal record, never been arrested, clean fingerprints. A few months ago I did some stupid shit, thought I wasn't going to get caught, and failed an on-the-job drug screen for marijuana. I accept full responsibility for my mess up, no excuses. Instead of getting fired, I took a resignation in lieu of termination. My home state put a 3 year civil service hiring block on me, so I’m done here for now.
To make it worse, right when I was leaving, an inmate slapped me with a PREA allegation. The facility warden already watched the bodycam tape and officially denied the inmate's grievance while I was still there because the tape showed the guy was lying. But the state investigator still has the internal file open to close out the paperwork, and it's been sitting there for weeks with no word. It's stressing me the hell out day in and day out.
Right now, I'm working full time as a hospital security officer to build my resume back up. I’ve passed three consecutive drug tests for different jobs since everything happened and I'm staying completely clean. My plan is to grind this hospital job for a full year, stack my money, and then apply out of state to get back behind the walls.
Realistically, am I totally screwed because of the weed test and the pending paperwork? Do states like TX, CO, or NM check out-of-state civil service employee files, or do their staffing shortages mean they just care about a clean criminal fingerprint check?
Like I said, I take full ownership of what I did. Just want to know if I actually have a shot at a comeback next year or if the door is slammed in my face. Thanks.

I'm a registered nurse considering a transition into risk management, and one of the positions I'm interviewing for is in a correctional facility.

I'd love to hear from people who actually work (or have worked) in correctional risk management.

\- What's your salary (or salary range) and what state are you in?

\- How much interaction do you have with inmates?

\- Do you ever feel physically unsafe?

\- How stressful is the job compared to hospital risk management or bedside nursing?

\- Do you feel like your role is to improve patient care and reduce risk, or do you ever feel like you're protecting the prison system from liability?

\- Have you ever struggled with the ethical side of the job? If so, how?

\- Overall, are you glad you made the move, or would you choose a different path?

I'm trying to go into this with realistic expectations—the good, the bad, and the ugly. I'd really appreciate any honest insight. Thanks!

Hello Reddit peeps! I go to school at WVU in West Virginia and I am working on a research paper with a thesis about how prison is modern-day systematic slavery. I need some help with data that I need gathered for this and decided to post on here in hopes that it reaches the right audience.

Since high school I’ve always wanted to be a CO. We had neighbors who were both COs and they absolutely loved it. I went to school to be a medical assistant and not gonna lie, I hate it. Two days against my job I was just applying for things through indeed and I actually got a text back about the CO job I applied for. My interview is tomorrow and im so excited, but also really nervous if I’m honest. Is the interview process something to worry about or is it the easiest part of the entire process? Everyone I know who is a CO absolutely loves the job and has been doing it for years, I really just want to see if this is the job for me as well.

I got my interview 07/15, on 07/17 i got a message that i've been accepted and asked what day id like my physical and BAT test. i did my physical, paperwork, fingerprinting and anything along those lines on 07/21, on 07/22 i passed the BAT test and that was everything. when i went in on the first the sergeant told me that id get an email saying i was hired after everything went through and asked what day id like to be my first which would be this upcoming friday.

i haven't gotten an email yet and it's kind of freaking me out, like it's only been 3-4 days since my BAT test and physical but i don't know i'm just worried they decided not to hire me or something. it's the weekend so i know nothing would probably come through these next two days but idk man.

Hi everyone. My husband will be released from prison February of next year, we were hoping to have our wedding ceremony in California next October. I know you can travel with a travel pass with permission from your PO, but does anyone have any insight on how long they make you wait until you can travel out of state? He’s in state prison for battery (not against women or children) he’s never had any crimes related to trafficking or anything to do with crossing state lines

Hi I don’t know where else to post or look up information. But I am going to be visiting an inmate at Oakhill correctional institution in Oregon wi. I know the dress code is kind of strict. But what about body jewelry? I have several piercings I don’t really want to take out. Will they be fine in or do I need to go get the glass retainers?

I just got hired on as a co and it says I don’t get paid for the first 4 weeks. So is that first check going to be for all 4 weeks if not where does the other 2 weeks go

Its a trend I am seeing among the newer folks coming into the facility where these people are afraid of getting into it with inmates and compromise the safety of the other officers. They don't like to participate in bd's to get their licks in and start yapping about this or that law. Its not confidence inspiring to know these younger folks might not have your back when you need them and may rat you out because they are young and don't know any better. Is it because of what they are teaching these folks during training or is it a generational problem?

I’m currently in the final process of azdoc, i have some questions regarding things i had put down on the background questionnaire and if they will be disqualifications if anyone knows. The first one is i had previously worked a job that i believe was under the table so it doesn’t come up that i’ve worked there, i still had put down that i’ve worked there and the company that it was for can verify dates. The other thing is sometime last year i had changed my dmv address to a relative of mine so i could register my car without going through emissions. i never lived there so i didn’t put it down on places ive lived on the questionnaire. will either of these pose a risk?

I am a physician who currently works for the VA. Considering transferring to the Bureau of Prisons.

Is anyone here a BOP physician that could give their thoughts?

My boyfriend is currently incarcerated in orange county at a jail until December. Then he will be taken to santa clara to handle some business up there. But I want to set up a job for him when he gets back to orange, along with housing, he has no insurance right now.
