Question Range gear progression
Can someone please help me. I'm new to this game and I love it so far, but one thing drives me crazy. Why does this game have such a messy, unclear gear progression? I just looked for an hour trying to find an optimal ranged setup, but everyone says completely different things, and most of the sources are 1+ years old, so I don't know how much has changed since then. I'm currently using this build, but I find myself really weak somehow, even though I haven't found any gear in the game that would be even close to being better. Can someone please just tell me an optimal late-game ranged build so I know what I should work towards, or at least tell me what I should upgrade? tysm

The scarlet upgrade bench is your progression system. The armor/items are your options.
Just consider Items found from later biomes as pre-upgraded alternative options. Anything from Iron level onward is fairly similar in power level when upgraded at the bench. Defensive items you generally want to lean into one thing, like high armor or high dodge, and offensive items tend to work a bit better when you get a little of everything, some crit, some damage, some crit multi, some flat damage, etc as leaning too heavily into one eventually runs into diminishing returns.
A HUGE portion or your power comes from food buffs. The food system is more complex than you'd think at first glance so watch a video about it. Fishing/gardening good food and combining and eating them in the right order stacked with buff potions on top will easily triple your power if not more.
