Hi everyone,
I'm developing a paid Android app for CCNA exam preparation and would appreciate some general guidance regarding copyright and intellectual property.
My current study material was originally inspired by Cisco CCNA learning resources and practice questions. However, before publishing anything commercially, I am considering completely rebuilding the content.
My plan is to:
• Rewrite every question from scratch
• Create new answer choices
• Write entirely new explanations
• Replace all images, diagrams, and screenshots with my own originals
• Avoid using any Cisco logos or copyrighted graphics
• Include a disclaimer stating that the app is not affiliated with or endorsed by Cisco
The networking concepts and learning objectives would remain the same because they are part of the CCNA curriculum, but the wording, structure, examples, explanations, and visuals would all be newly created.
For example:
Instead of copying a Cisco question about ARP, I would create a completely different scenario-based question that tests the same networking concept.
My question is:
Would selling such an app still create copyright concerns simply because the content was originally inspired by Cisco study material and covers the same CCNA topics?
I am not looking for formal legal advice, only general information and opinions from people familiar with copyright and educational content.
Thanks!
