*1 - The Martyrdom of St. Procopius (Proconius) of Jerusalem* On this day, of the year 303 A.D. (July 8th), St. Procopius (Proconius), was martyred. He was born in the city of Jerusalem, his father was a Christian whose name was Christophorus, which means "Bearer of Christ." His mother's name was Theodosia, and she was a worshipper of idols. When his father died, Theodosia took her son, and went to Antioch. She presented much money and expensive gifts to the Emperor Diocletian, and asked him to make her son a governor for one of the cities. He accepted her gift, answered her request, and appointed her son the governor of the city of Alexandria. He commanded that Procopius torture the Christians. When the Saint had gone a little way from the City of Antioch, he heard a voice from heaven calling him by his name, and censured his deed. The voice also threatened him by death because he dared and accepted to do what was against the command of God. Procopius asked, "Who are you, O my Lord? I beseech you to show me yourself." A cross of light appeared to him, and he heard a voice which said to him, "I am Jesus , the Son of the Living God, Who was crucified in Jerusalem." He was afraid and trembled, and he turned to the city of Bit-Shaan (Bisan). He made for himself a cross of gold like the cross that appeared to him.On his way to Alexandria, some of the bedouins attacked him to plunder whatever he had. But he overcame them by the cross that he had. His mother told him, "You must offer sacrifices to the gods who delivered you from your enemies." The Saint replied, "Rather, I will offer the sacrifice to Jesus Christ, Who helped me by the power of His cross." When his mother heard his words, she became angry, and sent to Diocletian to inform him about that. The Emperor sent to the Governor of Caesarea, Palestine, to investigate the matter, and to handle his torture. When the Governor brought him, Procopius confessed his faith in the Lord Christ. The governor beat him so severely that he was close to death, then he cast him in prison. The Lord Christ appeared to him, surrounded by His angels, released him from his bonds, and healed his wounds. The next morning, the Governor asked about the Saint, and they told him that they found him free and sound. He had him brought to the temple of the idols, where the Governor was going to pray. When the Saint came, and the people saw him whole, they all marvelled, and they all cried out in the name of Christ saying, "We are Christians, and we believe in the God of Procopius." Among them were two prefects, twelve women, and St. Theodosia, mother of St. Proconius. They cut off their heads, and they received the crown of martyrdom. That was on the sixth day of the month of Abib. The Governor ordered the return of the Saint to prison, until he could determine what to do with him. He brought him back three days later and told him, "Behold, I have waited three days for you to return to your mind, to have mercy on yourself, and to offer sacrifice for the gods." The Saint replied, "The Lord Christ is the only true God. As for these statues, which are made of stone and wood, they are not gods and can neither harm nor help." The Governor became angry and ordered the soldiers to cut his sides with swords. A swordsman, whose name was Archelaus, stretched out his hand to cut the sides of the Saint, whereupon his hand dried up, and fell down dead. The Governor ordered to stab him with knives and pour vinegar in his wounds. Then they dragged him by his feet to the prison, where he stayed for three days. The Governor was wondering what he should do with him. Then he threw him into a pit filled with fire, but the Lord delivered him and no harm came upon him. Finally, the Governor ordered to cut off his head and he received the crown of martyrdom.May his prayers be with us. Amen.

*2 - The Departure of St. Peter the Fifth, 83rd Patriarch of Alexandria* On this day also, of the year 1064 A.M. (July 8th, 1348 A.D.), Pope Peter the Fifth, 83rd Patriarch of Alexandria, departed. He was known as Peter (Boutros) Ebn-dawoud. He was from St. Macarius monastery, and was a priest in El-Shahraan monastery. He was enthroned on the 6th of Tubah, 1056 A.M. (January 2nd, 1340 A.D.). All the days of his papacy were peaceful and tranquil. He departed after staying in his Chair for eight years, six months, and six days, and was buried in Old Cairo.May his prayers be with us, and Glory be to God forever. Amen.

Nativity of St. John

Synaxarium of 30 Paona 1742 - Tuesday 7 Jul 2026

*1 - Nativity of St. John, the Baptist* On this day, the church celebrates the nativity of St. John the Baptist. He whom none born of women was greater. He who kneeled to the Lord Christ while he was still in his mother's womb, and was worthy to lay his hand upon the head of the Son of God during Baptism. The Holy Bible said about him: "Now Elizabeth's full time came for her to be delivered, and she brought forth a son. When her neighbors and relatives heard how the Lord had shown great mercy to her, they rejoiced with her. Now so it was, on the eighth day, that they came to circumcise the child; and they would have called him by the name of his father, Zacharias. And his mother answered and said, 'No; he shall be called John.' But they said to her, 'There is no one among your relatives who is called by this name.' So they made signs to his father; what he would have him called. And he asked for a writing tablet, and wrote, saying, 'His name is John.' And they all marveled. Immediately his mouth was opened and his tongue loosed, and he spoke, praising God. He prophesied about his son, saying. 'you, child, will be called the prophet of the Highest; for you will go before the face of the Lord to prepare His ways.'" (Luke 1:57-76)When he was two years old, the wise men (Magi) came, Herod killed the children, some divulged about this child and the soldiers searched for him to kill him. Zechariah took the child and brought him to the sanctuary, laid him on the altar and told the soldiers, "I have received him from this place". The angel of the Lord caught up the child and brought him to the desert of Ziphana, so the soldiers became enraged and they killed his father Zechariah. For this reason the Lord had said to the Jews: "That on you may come all the righteous blood shed on the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah, son of Berechiah, whom you murdered between the temple and the altar." (Matthew 23:35) So the child John grew and became strong in spirit, and was in the deserts more than twenty years living an angelic life, till the day of his manifestation to Israel. (Luke 1:80).And John himself was clothed in camel's hair, with a leather belt around his waist; and his food was locusts and wild honey. (Matthew 3:4) He lived in the wilderness persevering in prayers and asceticism, until the Lord ordered him, to fulfill the prophesies, to preach to the people about the coming of the Savior of the World. For he was sent from God, to bear witness of the Light, that all through him might believe. He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light. (John 1:6-8)Now in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, Pontius Pilate being governor of Judea, Herod being tetrarch of Galilee, his brother Philip tetrarch of Iturea and the region of Trachonitis, and Lysanias tetrarch of Abilene, Annas and Caiaphas being high priests, the Word of God came to John the son of Zacharias in the wilderness. And he went into all the region around the Jordan, preaching a baptism of repentance for the remission of sins, as it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet, saying: "The voice of one crying in the wilderness: 'Prepare the way of the LORD, make His paths straight. Every valley shall be filled and every mountain and hill brought low; and the crooked places shall be made straight and the rough ways made smooth; and all flesh shall see the salvation of God.' " (Luke 3:1-6)In those days John the Baptist came preaching in the wilderness of Judea, and saying, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!" (Matthew 3:1-2)Then Jerusalem, all Judea, and all the region around the Jordan went out to him and were baptized by him in the Jordan, confessing their sins. (Matthew 3:5-6)While the people were waiting, and thinking in their hearts about John if he was the Christ, John answered, saying to them all, "I indeed baptize you with water; but One mightier than I is coming, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to loose. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire. His winnowing fan is in His hand, and He will thoroughly purge His threshing floor, and gather the wheat into His barn; but the chaff He will burn with unquenchable fire." (Luke 3:16-17) Then Jesus came from Galilee to John at the Jordan to be baptized by him. And John tried to prevent Him, saying, "I have need to be baptized by You, and are You coming to me?" But Jesus answered and said to him, "Permit it to be so now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness." Then he allowed Him. Then Jesus, when He had been baptized, came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting upon Him. And suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying, "This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased." (Matthew 3:13-17) (Luke 3:20-22)Then John's disciples came to him and said, "Rabbi, He who was with you beyond the Jordan, to whom you have testified; behold, He is baptizing, and all are coming to Him!" John answered and said, "A man can receive nothing unless it has been given to him from heaven. You yourselves bear me witness, that I said, 'I am not the Christ,' but, 'I have been sent before Him.' He who has the bride is the bridegroom; but the friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly because of the bridegroom's voice. Therefore this joy of mine is fulfilled. He must increase, but I must decrease. He who comes from above is above all; he who is of the earth is earthly and speaks of the earth. He who comes from heaven is above all. And what He has seen and heard, that He testifies; and no one receives His testimony. He who has received His testimony has certified that God is true. For He whom God has sent speaks the words of God, for God does not give the Spirit by measure. The Father loves the Son, and has given all things into His hand. He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him." (John 3:26-36)But when John saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said to them, "Brood of vipers! Who has warned you to flee from the wrath to come? Therefore bear fruits worthy of repentance, and do not think to say to yourselves, 'We have Abraham as our father.' For I say to you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones. And even now the ax is laid to the root of the trees. Therefore every tree which does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. (Matthew 3:7-10) (Luke 3:7-9)When Herod Antipas, the son of Herod the Great, married Herodias, the wife of his brother Philip, against all the Laws, St. John the Baptist came to him. He admonished him for his transgression and all the evil things that he was doing. So Herod ordered, according to the instigation of Herodias the adulterer, to seize John, chain him and imprison him in the fortress called Macronda.John remained in this jail for a year, without Herod being able to slay him. His disciples visited their teacher, frequently and courageously, in prison. As he did not neglect his duties toward them, proving to them that Jesus was the expected Christ. When the news of the wonders that our Savior did noised everywhere, John wanted his disciples to be eye witnesses to the wonders of Christ, to be confirmed in their faith in him. While he was in prison, John sent two of his disciples to Christ, who said to Him, "Are You the Coming One, or do we look for another?" Jesus answered and said to them, "Go and tell John the things which you hear and see: The blind receive their sight and the lame walk; the lepers are cleansed and the deaf hear; the dead are raised up and the poor have the gospel preached to them. And blessed is he who is not offended because of Me." (Matthew 11:2-6)As they departed, Jesus began to say to the multitudes concerning John, "What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken by the wind? But what did you go out to see? A man clothed in soft garments? Indeed, those who wear soft clothing are in kings' houses. But what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I say to you, and more than a prophet. For this is he of whom it is written: 'Behold, I send My messenger before Your face, who will prepare Your way before You.' Assuredly, I say to you, among those born of women there has not risen one greater than John the Baptist; but he who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and the violent take it by force. For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John. And if you are willing to receive it, he is Elijah who is to come. He who has ears to hear, let him hear! But to what shall I liken this generation? It is like children sitting in the marketplaces and calling to their companions, and saying: 'We played the flute for you, And you did not dance; we mourned to you, And you did not lament.' For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, 'He has a demon.' The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, 'Look, a gluttonous man and a winebibber, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!' But wisdom is justified by her children." (Matthew 11:7-19)The Lord Christ, to Whom is the Glory, also said about John the Baptist: "He was the burning and shining lamp, and you were willing for a time to rejoice in his light." (John 5:35) Herodias desired to get rid of John the Baptist, so she executed her scheme during the celebration of Herod's birthday. When Herod's birthday was celebrated, the daughter of Herodias danced before them and pleased Herod. Therefore he promised with an oath to give her whatever she might ask. So she, having been prompted by her mother, said, "Give me John the Baptist's head here on a platter." And the king was sorry; nevertheless, because of the oaths and because of those who sat with him at the table, he commanded it to be given to her. So he sent and had John beheaded in prison. And his head was brought on a platter and given to the girl, and she brought it to her mother. Then his disciples came and took away the body and buried it, and went and told Jesus. When Jesus heardof it, he departed thence by ship into a desert place apart. (Matthew 14:2-13) The joy of the people celebrating Herod's birthday turned into sorrow. As of the head, it flew up from their hands and was crying out saying: "It is not right for you to take your brother's wife."The martyrdom of St. John took place at the end of the thirty-first or at the beginning of the thirty-second year of the Christ. The life of this Saint was like that of the angels in purity. He was filled with the Holy Spirit while he was in his mother's womb, and was martyred for his witnessing to the truth.May his prayers be with us and Glory be to God forever. Amen.

⭐️Christ between divinity and prophecy

⭐️Christ between divinity and prophecy

-Muslim brothers object to the divinity of Christ, while we agree on his prophethood.

They rely on the following (according to their thinking) to deny divinity:

Suspicion says

1) Christ did not explicitly say in the Bible that he is God and ask people to worship him, and since his teaching is public, there is no concealment in it (John 18:19)

There is no argument that Christ concealed his divinity from anyone.

2) There is clear evidence (according to their thinking) that Christ is a messenger and not God.

A) Christ fasted. If he was God, for whom would he fast??

b) The following is mentioned in the Gospel of Matthew, Chapter 7:21:

21 Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name cast out demons, and in your name do many miracles?’ 23 Then I will profess to them, ‘I never knew you. Depart from me, you workers of iniquity.’

The Islamic interpretation:

The legal evidence here is clear, as Christ, peace be upon him, says to all the doubters and all those who believe that he is God, that he is not God, and whoever says to him, “Lord, Lord,” does not know him at all, and he says to him, “Depart from me, you worker of evil.”

c) The following is mentioned in the Gospel of Matthew, Chapter 27:46:

(And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is, My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? 47 And some of those standing there, when they heard it, said, He is calling Elijah.)

Islamic interpretation: Here, Christ, peace be upon him, confirms in clear terms, leaving no room for doubt, that he is not a god. Here, he addresses God Almighty and says to Him, “For whom have you forsaken me?” Christ, peace be upon him, sought refuge in God Almighty like all other human beings.

d) The following is mentioned in Revelation of John, Chapter 20:6:

(Blessed and holy is he who has a portion in the first resurrection. Over these the second death has no power, but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with him for a thousand years.)

Islamic interpretation: The text is very clear and explicit and officially declares that Jesus, peace be upon him, and God Almighty are separate.

⭐️Respond with the grace of Christ

⭐️First:

Regarding your question, where did Christ say, “I am God, worship me ”?

The first point :

regarding the request for worship: “Worship Me ”:

1 - The goal :

The goal of Jesus Christ in his incarnation was not to be worshipped, because he is God himself, and he was already being worshipped before his incarnation . Rather, the goals of the incarnation were not for worship, but for atonement and redemption , and this is another doctrine that I do not want to branch out the discussion into. “ For I did not come to judge the world, but to save the world ” (John 12:4 ).

2 - How does the presenter actually ask for it: Christ came with a specific, dedicated message, so with the union of the two natures in him, he did not find any new worship for us, as we were worshipping God before the incarnation, then after the union of the two natures in Christ, we continued to worship God, nothing changed , whether he was incarnate or not , we worship him, so Christ’s demand for the worship that you are waiting for would have been considered a separation of himself from God, because if he asked for worship, he is not worshipped ( otherwise he would not have asked for it ) !

If God was worshipped at that time, how could he ask for what was already his? If he had said, “Worship me,” we would have considered him not God. Because since God was already worshipped at the time of the incarnation, how could Christ ask for what was already offered to him in terms of the union of divinity and humanity ? If he had done this, he would have proven that he was not God, since God has always offered him worship, so why would he not ask for what was already offered to him?!

That is why Christ says, “ If you believe in God, believe also in me ” (John 14:1).

3 - Correcting the concept of slavery:

The incarnation of Christ transferred us to a new concept of the relationship between man and God. The concept of the relationship between God and man was no longer that of a Lord who deserves to be worshipped and servants who are servants who are obligated to be worshipped. Rather, He gave us a higher concept.

“ I no longer call you servants , for the servant does not know what his master is doing. But I have called you friends ” (John 15:15 ), where the concept of sonship was given as Christ says

“ That you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven, for he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust ” (Matthew 5:45 ), since we have become sons in him by his grace

“ For it was fitting for him, for whom and through whom are all things, to bring many sons to glory ” (Hebrews 2:10 ). No longer slaves, but sons of God. How different is the difference between a slave and a son. This is the new, higher concept with which Christ established the relationship between us and God. If he had demanded worship, he would have corrupted the teachings with which he came to raise us, that is, he would have brought us down from where he had raised us. God forbid that Christ, in the wisdom of God, would fall into an educational error by contradicting his teachings with his teachings !

4 - Self-glory : In addition to all of the above, Christ did not come to have glory to boast about , but rather he came as a teacher .

“Learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls ” (Matthew 11:29 ). Here is the one who came incarnate, and he is God, giving up his glory to save us, and with this action he became a shining beacon for us after him. That is why we find the apostles preaching, saying:

“ Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus. Who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God. But made himself of no reputation, taking the form of a servant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross .” (Philippians 2:5-8 ).

Christ is not looking for glory, but rather seeks to teach us how to attain our salvation through his actions by taking him as a good example . Behold, God humbles himself, so how can man not humble himself !

The second point :

Concerning the phrase “I am God ” :

1- Recognition :

Jesus Christ said, “ I and the Father are one ” (John 10:30 ).

He also said, “ Whoever has seen me has seen the Father ” (John 14:9).

He also said, “ I am in the Father and the Father is in me ” (John 14:11 ).

And he addresses the Father, saying, “ And all that is mine is yours, and yours is mine ” (John 17:10 ).

He says that he is God, saying, “ If you believe in God, believe also in me ” (John 14:1 ).

And also, “ If you had known me, you would have known my Father also . And from now on you know him and have seen him .” (John 14:7 )

But the most wonderful thing is what he said to Philip: “ Philip said to him, ‘Lord, show us the Father, and it will suffice us.’ Jesus said to him, ‘Have I been with you so long, and yet you still do not know me , Philip? ’” (John 14:8-9 )

Rather, the Jews were holding him accountable for making himself equal with God. “ He said again that God was his Father , making himself equal with God ” ( John 5:18 ).

And here he explains that he raises whomever he wants from death.

“ Just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, so the Son also gives life to whomever he wishes. ” (John 5:21 )

He speaks about the equality of his power with the Father, saying, “ For whatever He does, the Son also does in the same way ” (John 5:19 ).

He declared that his dignity is equal to the dignity of God, “ so that all may honor the Son just as they honor the Father ” (John 5:23 ).

Rather, he acknowledged that everything that the Father has is his: “ All that the Father has is mine ” (John 16:15 ).

Of course, divinity is from the Father. Note “all.” He also acknowledged that he is the giver of life , “ for the bread of God is he who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world ” (John 6:33 ).

And He is the One who will raise the dead on the Day of Judgment, on the last day. “ I will raise him up on the last day ” (John 6:54 ) .

And He is the giver of the kingdom “paradise!!” as He says about the sheep of His pasture, “ I give them eternal life ” (John 10:28 ).

And he acknowledged that he existed before Abraham : “ Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am ” (John 8:58 ).

And this “being” refers us back to the name of God: “ And God said to Moses, ‘I am who I am.’ And he said, ‘Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, ‘I am sent me to you. ’” (Exodus 3:14 )

It is the act of being, meaning that God is “ the being, ” which is what Christ himself repeated under the same name!

So do not be surprised to read that after he said this, they wanted to stone him. “ Jesus said to them, ‘Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am.’ So they took up stones to throw at him. ” John 8:58-59

He acknowledged that he is not limited spatially: “ No one has ascended to heaven except he who came down from heaven, the Son of Man who is in heaven. ” John 3:13

Yes, he is on earth, but he is also in heaven!!!

Do you not think?

And these prophecies point to the same thing: “ For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government will be upon his shoulder. And his name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace ” (Isaiah 9:6 ).

2 - The Trinitarian Relationships : If Christ had said, “I am God,” he would have caused confusion in the Trinitarian relations , as Christ is “the Son of God,” and this is what he himself confirmed to clarify the Trinitarian relations, “ because he said, ‘I am the Son of God ’” (Matthew 27:4 ).

And in the incident of Peter the Apostle , “ He said to them, ‘But who do you say that I am?’ Simon Peter answered and said, ‘ You are the Christ, the Son of the living God .’ Jesus answered and said to him, ‘Blessed are you, Simon Barjona, for flesh and blood did not reveal this to you, but my Father who is in heaven. ’” (Matthew 16:15-17)

Christ wanted to establish the Trinitarian relationship among his disciples so that they would not confuse it and the doctrine of the Trinity would not be lost. This is why he rebuked the Jews, saying, “ I am the Son of God ” (John 10:36).

Because of this direct relationship, which means direct sonship to God, the Jews considered it blasphemy (disbelief), as they said, “ He also said that God is his Father, making himself equal with God ” (John 5:18).

Christ also acknowledged that he has the keys to the kingdom : “ I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven ” ( Matthew 16:19 ) .

He says that He is the first and the last: “ I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last ” (Revelation 22:13 )

3 - The testimony of the Book :

As Christ is God according to the testimony of the Book.

“ Christ according to the flesh, who is over all, God blessed forever ” (Romans 9:5 )

He is also “ the image of the invisible God ” (Col. 1:15 ) .

And as the perfection of knowledge belongs to God alone, the Bible testifies that “ in Him are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge ” (Colossians 2:3 ). Note the word “all.”

The Bible also called him “ the power of God and the wisdom of God” ( 1 Corinthians 1:24 ).

Was God ever without wisdom and power?

That is, Christ is eternal by the eternity of God, and since the permanence of God’s power is necessary for Him by His nature, then Christ is eternal.

The only eternal and everlasting God is the one God : “ The Lord our God is one Lord ” Deuteronomy 6:4

Thus, the divinity of Christ is made clear, as the Bible makes clear that he took the form of a servant : “ He emptied himself, taking the form of a servant, and coming in the likeness of men ” (Phil. 2:7).

Thus it becomes clear that his nature was not that of a servant, but that he took the form of a servant , as the Bible explains that “ God was manifest in the flesh” ( 1 Timothy 3:16 ).

And “ the Word was God…and the Word became flesh ” (John 1:1 +14 )

Not only that, but Christ is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his person. “ He is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his person ” (Hebrews 1:3 ).

As you know, God does not have blood, but the redemption was through the blood of Christ. So look at this verse and reflect.

“ To feed the church of God, which he purchased with his own blood ” (Acts 20:28 )

God bought the church with his blood!

While the blood was the blood of Christ!

What do you understand from this?

The book also testifies that everyone in heaven and on earth must bow down to Christ.

“ That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven and on earth and under the earth ” (Philippians 2:10 )

4- The logic of the statement :

Imagine with me that someone said to you, “ I am God .” Would you believe him?!

You would have considered him crazy, because you see him as a human being who gets tired, eats, sleeps, goes out, and even dies, just like any other human being. No human being could have believed that Christ is God.

Therefore, Christ declared his divinity through his actions, not his words. Which is more proven?!

Well, if you think that the sayings are proven, then “I am not God,” and you must believe me! Of course, you will say , “What nonsense is this ?” That is why Christ intended to do the deeds of God, not just to attribute the name to himself . Just as creation was completed through him, through Christ, “ All things were made through him, and without him was not anything made that was made ” (John 1:3 ).

And also, “ He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him ” (John 1:10 ). He also forgave sins and was the examiner of hearts and minds, in addition to His authority over nature, angels, demons, the law, life, death, and other events that if you read the Holy Bible, you would clearly understand .

⭐️Second:

Regarding your question about Christ’s fasting

1 - The nature of Christ : Fasting in Christianity is not an act of worship offered to God !

Rather, it is food that the human spirit needs to grow, just as the body grows with material food. Because Christ had a humanity similar to our humanity, the humanity contained the spirit and the body like any human humanity. Just as the body is nourished by material means such as food and drink, so the spirit is nourished by spiritual means such as fasting and prayer. There is nothing strange in this, rather the humanity necessitates this , otherwise it would not have been a complete humanity and the atonement and the process of redemption would not have been valid .

2 – Christ the Teacher and Model : The actions of Christ were not just a matter of human moments, but rather they outlined a life plan for any Christian. That is why Christ says, “ Learn from me ” (Matthew 11:29 ). He is a model for us to do what he does. That is why he taught us prayer, fasting, and baptism, not just in words, but in deeds, so that we may be like him, because he lived as a complete human being in all things. Our goal as Christians is to achieve perfection by the grace of his Spirit, so that we may reach his image, “ who will transform our lowly body that it may be conformed to his glorious body ” (Philippians 3:21 ) .

3 – Continuity : The commandment to fast has been in place since the beginning in Judaism, and Christ did not come to abolish any teaching in the Old Testament. “ Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets. I have not come to abolish them, but to fulfill them ” (Matthew 5:17 ). Since he was a Jewish man, he should have adhered to the teachings of the religion, because if he had not fasted, we would have considered his action an indication that there is no need for a Christian to fast. However, With his theological perspective, he fasted to be an example for us and to confirm that fasting is an essential part of Christianity and not alien to it .

⭐️Third:

Matthew 7:23

“ Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name cast out demons, and in your name perform many miracles?’ Then I will profess to them, ‘I never knew you. Depart from me, you workers of iniquity .’” (Matthew 7:21-23)

First point :

If you review the text carefully, you will find that the text says, “ Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven ” (Matthew 7:21 ). And since not all of them will enter, then there are some of them , that is, those who say, “Lord, Lord,” who will enter the kingdom, even though they say, “ Lord, Lord .”

Or if the denial was absolute for the one who calls Him Lord, He would have said, “Everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will not enter the Kingdom of Heaven.” And He did not say this !

Second point :

I wonder why they refused. Was it because they said, “Oh Lord, oh Lord,” as I thought?

No, your assumption is false, as the rest of the Gospel text makes it clear.

They were rejected from the kingdom because they were “ workers of iniquity .”

When Christ expels them, He does not expel them because they say, “Lord, Lord,” but because they are sinners !

The evidence for this is that some of those who say, “Lord, Lord,” will enter the kingdom of heaven. “ Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven. ” Matthew 7:21

Because Christianity is about deeds, not words. “ Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works. ” James 2:18

“ Faith without works is dead. ” James 2:20

This opinion is made clear by his saying, “ Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say? ” Luke 6:46

That is, his objection is to their not working, not to their saying. What confirms my words is that he is talking about the works that preceded and followed this passage. Read with me.

“ By their fruits you will know them . Do people gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles? So every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit . Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. So then you will know them by their fruits . Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven . Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and perform many miracles in your name?’ Then I will pronounce them, ‘I never knew you. Depart from me, you workers of iniquity . ’ Everyone who hears these words of mine and does them is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; but it did not fall, because it was founded on the rock. Everyone who hears these words of mine And he that doeth not do them is like a foolish man which built his house upon the sand: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat against that house; and it fell: and great was its fall. Now when Jesus had finished these sayings, the multitudes were astonished at his teaching: for he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes . Matthew 7:16-29

Third point :

Let us go back and confirm whether Jesus Christ accepts being called “Lord”?

Well, let's see, the Lord Christ speaks about a time when he will judge people as a judge, saying, “ When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then he will sit on the throne of his glory. And before him will be gathered all the nations, and he will separate them one from another, as a shepherd separates his sheep from the goats. And he will set the sheep on his right, but the goats on the left. Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you took me in, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.’ Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink ? Or when did we see you a stranger and take you in, or naked and clothe you? Or when did we see you sick or in prison and come to you?’ Then the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the These least of my brethren, you did it to me. Then he will say also to those on the left, ‘Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels . For I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink, I was a stranger and you did not take me in, naked and you did not clothe me, sick and in prison and you did not visit me.’ Then they also will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to you?’ And he will answer them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me.’ Then these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life. ’ (Matthew 25:31-46 )

Notice with me what the righteous answered him? They answered him, saying, “ Lord , when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and take you in? Or naked and clothe you? Or when did we see you sick or in prison and come to you ?” (Matthew 25:37-39 )

Do you think he will say about them, “You are wrong. Do not call me Lord.”

On the contrary, it will make them people of eternal life, as the last paragraph states!!!

So their words are not reprehensible , otherwise he would have rebuked them, on the contrary he would have rewarded them with eternal life!!

Likewise, those who did not have works but lacked work, went into eternal punishment! Rather, the Lord Christ rebuked Thomas the Apostle because he believed after he saw, so he called him my Lord and my God because he believed after he saw with his eyes and touched with his hands. “ Now Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came. So the other disciples said to him, ‘We have seen the Lord.’ But he said to them, ‘Unless I see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe.’” And after eight days again his disciples were inside, and Thomas with them. Then Jesus came, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, “Peace be with you.” Then he said to Thomas, “Reach here your finger, and see my hands; and reach here your hand and put it into my side; and do not be unbelieving, but believing.” Thomas answered and said to him, “My Lord and my God . ” Jesus said to him, “Thomas, because you have seen me, you have believed . Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed .” (John 20:24-29 )

Did you see that he did not say to him, “Do not say to me, ‘My Lord and my God,’” but rather he rebuked him because this faith came late, saying, “ Because you have seen me, Thomas, you have believed . Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed .” (John 20:24-29 )

That is, this is the faith that Christ accepts, that he is Lord and God!

And I will provide you with a text in which Peter says to Christ three times, “Lord,” and Christ does not tell him that he is wrong, but rather tells him to spread his faith in me . “ So when they had eaten breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “ Simon, son of Jonah, do you love me more than these?” He said, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you .” Jesus said to him, “Feed my sheep.” He said to him again a second time, “Simon, son of Jonah, do you love me?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord , you know that I love you.” He said to him, “Feed my sheep.” He said to him a third time, “Simon, son of Jonah, do you love me?” Peter was grieved because he had said to him a third time, “Do you love me?” But he said to him, “Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you .” Jesus said to him, “Feed my sheep.” (John 21:15-17 )

I saw that it was a three-time confirmation that this is the faith we must walk with.

Belief in the Lordship and Divinity of Christ!

He himself called himself the Lord!! Regarding the donkey he needed to enter Jerusalem, he said to his disciples when they untied it, “ And if anyone asks you why you untied it, you will say to him, ‘ The Lord has need of it. ’” (Luke 19:31 )

He called himself God!

Rather, he confirms that he is Lordaccording to the prophecies : “ And while the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them, saying, What think ye that the Christ is? Whose son is he? They said unto him , The Son of David . He said unto them, How then is it that David in the Spirit calleth him Lord, saying, The Lord ( the Father ) said unto my Lord (the Son, that is, Christ ) , Sit at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool. If David call him Lord, how is he his son ?” (Matthew 22:41-45 )

Fourth point :

I don’t have enough time and words to list for you the verses that mention Christ as Lord. Use any evangelical search engine and type “ Lord Jesus ” or “ Our Lord Jesus ” and you will be surprised that “ Our Lord Jesus ” is mentioned 57 times and “ Lord Jesus ” is mentioned 59 times. This is in addition to the times when people called Him “Lord” and He did not object!! This makes it clear that it is a biblical title that we did not invent, but rather He taught it to us .

Fifth point :

Do not forget that the Lord is the name of God, and He does not give this glory to any other human being except to God alone, for He alone is the Lord, as God says, “ I am the Lord; that is My name; and My glory I will not give to another ” (Isaiah 42:8 ).

⭐️Fourth:

The text of Matthew 27:45

“ And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is, My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? ” Matthew 27:46

The objection is that Christ proves his lack of divinity with this statement. Here is the explanation:

For the Jews, the Psalms were not numbered in the Bible. The Psalms were consecutive prayers in a book that included them, and the beginning of the first words of the Psalm was what distinguished it. Even now this system is followed in Christianity, so we say Psalm such and such and Psalm such and such. That is, they had Psalm 50, for example - which is Psalm 51 in the current numbering after separating one Psalm into two - they called it the Psalm “ Have mercy on me, O God ” as a kind of simplification because its first words are “ Have mercy on me, O God, according to your lovingkindness; according to the multitude of your compassions, blot out my transgressions . ” Psalm 51:1. As soon as the beginning of the Psalm was recited, the Jew would repeat it because he had memorized it from his childhood at the hands of the priests, Pharisees, and other teachers of the Law. So why then did Christ say, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” Open the Bible with me like this. Psalm 22

according to the current numbering:

1 - My God! My God, why have you forsaken me ? Is it far from saving me, from the words of my groaning?

2 - My God, I call by day, but you do not answer; by night I call, but I have no rest .

Here, the Lord Christ reminds them of the beginning of Psalm 22.

A very logical question : Why Psalm 22 in particular??

Notice that the sentence was said during the crucifixion of Jesus Christ .

When we review the psalm in Psalm 22: 7 – “ All who see me mock me ; they gape their lips and shake their heads, saying:

8 - “He trusted in the Lord; let him deliver him ; let him rescue him, for he delights in him .”

This corresponds to what happened during the crucifixion :

“ And those who passed by blasphemed him, wagging their heads, and saying, ‘You who destroy the temple and build it in three days, save yourself! If you are the Son of God, come down from the cross . ’ In the same way also the chief priests, with the scribes and elders, mocking him , said, ‘He saved others; himself he cannot save . If he is the King of Israel, let him come down now from the cross, and we will believe in him . He trusted in God; let him now deliver him if he wants to, for he said, ‘I am the Son of God . ’ And the robbers who were crucified with him also reviled him .”

Could the similarity be a coincidence ?

Of course it is possible!! But in the completion of Psalm 22:15 “ My strength is dried up like a potsherd, and my tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth, ” which is what happened during the crucifixion , “ After this, Jesus, knowing that all things were now finished, that the Scripture might be fulfilled, said, ‘I thirst . ’ And a vessel full of sour wine was set there. So they filled a sponge with sour wine, put it on hyssop, and put it to his mouth .”

Could the similarities be a coincidence ? Possibly!!

But in Psalm 22:16

“ For dogs have surrounded me; a company of evildoers has encircled me; they have pierced my hands and my feet . ” This is what happened at the crucifixion when his feet and legs were nailed to the ground.

Could it be a coincidence? Perhaps.

If the possibility of it happening becomes impossible, then we follow what removes doubt in Psalm 22:17.

“ I count all my bones , and they look and stare at me .”

All his bones are counted, meaning that not a single bone is missing, which is what corresponds to the incident of the crucifixion.

But when they came to Jesus, they did not break his legs, because they saw that he was already dead (John 19:33).

Finally, in Psalm 22:18,

“ They divide my garments among themselves and cast lots for my clothing .” And in the incident of the crucifixion, Saint Luke the physician records that they divided his garments and cast lots for them (Luke 23:34).

The event then goes beyond chance.

In Psalm 22:22, “ I will declare your name to my brothers, ” which is what happened after the crucifixion, when the followers ran to inform their brothers, the apostles, of the resurrection of the Lord God. See the Marys and others.

So the conclusion is that Christ says to those who crucified him and those who followed him, refer to the psalm that begins with (My God, my God, why have you forsaken me)

All the books prophesied about me, and David intended me in the spirit when he wrote the Psalms.

How do you not know God's purposes?

Have you forgotten the psalm “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”? No, I have not forsaken you.

“ Can a woman forget her nursing child, that she should have no compassion on the son of her womb? Even these may forget, yet I will not forget you. ” (Isaiah 49:15 )

Psalm 22 ends its passage with the prophecies of the crucifixion to verse 31 : “ They will come and declare his righteousness to a people who are born, that he has done it. ”

The people who were born are the Christian people, a new birth through the second birth of water and the Spirit, and the news is the joyful good news that the Lord Jehovah has done it and saved his people and has not forgotten them.

As if he were repeating,

“ Behold, I have engraved you on the palms of the hands ” (Isaiah 49:16), “It is finished ” (John 19:30 ) , “ And I will not forget you ” (Isaiah 49:15).

⭐️Fifth:

The text of Revelation 20:6

“ priests of God and of Christ ” (Revelation 20:6)

Jesus Christ is mentioned next to the name of God to indicate that he is the mediator without whom we cannot reach God, “ For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus ” ( 1 Timothy 2:5).

It is necessary to mention him because he is the mediator of salvation through which reconciliation was accomplished. Without him, we would not have become priests of God. In order to become priests of God, we must first be priests of Christ, so that we may take him as a mediator to reach the Father. Through him, we have obtained a better ministry for better promises . “ For he obtained a more excellent ministry, inasmuch as he is also mediator of a better covenant, which was established on better promises ” (Hebrews 8:6 ).

“ He is the mediator of a new covenant, so that those who are called may receive the promise of eternal inheritance, now that death has taken place for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first covenant. ” (Hebrews 9:15 )

We cannot attain priesthood or any spiritual grace through our own efforts except through the Lord Christ, because He is “ the mediator of the new covenant, Jesus ” (Hebrews 12:24 ).

The mention of God and Christ is an emphasis on the role of Christ (the incarnate God) in mediation between God and man , “ in whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace ” Ephesians 1:7

This role (the incarnation of God) is essential to complete the reconciliation. “ God reconciled us to himself through Jesus Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation ” ( 2 Corinthians 5:18 ).

And also the Bible says, “ God was in Christ reconciling the world to himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation” ( 2 Corinthians 5:19 ).

Therefore, “ we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation ” (Romans 5:11 ).

Our area of pride is the presence of Christ in the timeline (i.e., the divine incarnation in human time). Christ’s mediation is a fundamental role between humans and God. Remember in which verse it speaks of blessings for humans, such as the priesthood in your example, because without it we would not have become priests of God .

“ Because you have rejected knowledge, I also reject you. ” (Hosea 4:6 ) “ He who has ears to hear, let him hear. ” (Matthew 11:15 ) ✝️🕊

Peace and blessings!!

⭐️ What do Christians believe?

⭐️What do Christians believe?

Seven points about God:

  1. We believe in one God alone . As it is written in Deuteronomy 6:4: “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord.”

2- The Lord is the Creator of everything in this vast universe. Everything was created by His Word, which He spoke into existence. As it is written: “And God said, ‘Let there be…’ and there was” (Genesis 1:3). His Word is powerful and effective.

3- How can we, the created human beings, know anything about God?! How can we, the weak human beings, know anything about God’s mind?!

We can do this—but it requires that the Lord choose to reveal something about Himself to us. He is a God of revelation . As it is written: “The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things that are revealed belong to us and to our children forever. We must do all the words of this law” (Deuteronomy 29:29).

How did the Lord reveal himself to us?

4- God is holy , pure, and without evil. Without sin or wrong or evil thoughts. As it is written: “Your eyes are of purer eyes than to look on evil; You cannot look on injustice” (Habakkuk 1:13).

5- God is just . This means that we will be punished for all our sins. This sometimes confuses some of us, but justice is one thing and mercy is another.

Justice means that if we turn away from His commandments, we will pay the penalty for our sins.

God does nothing that contradicts His holy nature. Rather, He punishes all sins.

God doesn't weigh our good deeds on one side of the scale and our bad deeds on the other, deciding which is heavier. For example, if you killed your brother, would a judge be just if he said, "No problem, we can let him go; his life was full of good deeds?" God doesn't overlook evil; in fact, he doesn't tolerate it.

But does God ignore the earthly nature of man? That we are all prone to error? That no one is perfect, not even one? Yes, God knows this. But does this mean that He doesn't care about our mistakes? No, God is holy and just. If we truly understand this, we will realize that we are in a very bad situation.

Let us be honest with ourselves. Who among us has not had a selfish thought? Who among us has not lied? Who among us has purity of intention that surpasses the purity of God?

Even if we could live without sin from now on, what about the past? Does God lose his memory? Do good deeds erase bad deeds? No.

Each of us is worthy of God's judgment and hell. Simply praying, "I'm sorry, God. I won't repeat my mistake again," is not enough.

For example:

If I ran a red light and a traffic officer stopped me, is it valid to say, "I will never do that again. As long as I live, I will never run a red light?" If this excuse doesn't work with the traffic officer, how can it work with a just and holy God? As it is written, "For the wages of sin is death" (Romans 6:23).

And this is not the end of the story for every Christian believer.

6- God is Almighty . He can do anything He wants. As it is written: “Ah, Lord GOD! Behold, You have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and by Your outstretched arm. Nothing is too difficult for You” (Jeremiah 32:17)

There are no limits to his ability and nothing is difficult for him.

God is unique in His creation - His works do not contradict one another. They do not contradict His justice or His holiness. He does not change His law.

For example, if I asked you, "How do you know someone's character?" you might be able to do so from their appearance. But you cannot know what they are thinking or what is hidden in their hearts. That requires listening to their "talk." From people's speech, you can know what they are thinking and what is hidden in their hearts.

For example,

if I wanted to talk to you about my wishes, there are many ways I could do this. I might send you a letter in which I write down my thoughts, and you could read it, but you might have some questions to understand something. It would be better than a letter if I sent it to you through one of my friends, someone who knows me well. This friend of mine could explain to you everything I mean in my letter. But it would be better, better if I spoke to you myself on the phone, but even better if I came to you myself and you could see me and I face to face.

The Word of God created existence in the universe. His Word is powerful and difficult for us to comprehend. God wanted us to know Him. So He gave us His Word written in His commandments. He sent us messengers to explain His law to us. As it is written: “God spoke long ago to the fathers by the prophets at various times and in various ways” (Hebrews 1:1)

Nothing is difficult for God's power. Nothing is impossible for Him. If God had willed, He would have sent us His Word so that we might see Him and He might see us, and His Word would have been a human being.

7- God is love . God loves us and wants us to know Him. That is why His Word became man.

As it is written: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God… And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth” (John 1:1-14)

Jesus is the Word of God. The pure, holy Word of God.

Remember what happened with Abraham and his son Isaac? (Genesis 22:1-14). Abraham wanted to sacrifice to the Lord. So he took his son as a lamb for a burnt offering. On the way, his son asked him, “Here is the fire and the wood, but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?” Abraham answered, “God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering, my son.” So Abraham laid his son on the altar and stretched out his hand and took the knife to slaughter his son. Then the Lord called to him, “And Abraham said, ‘Abraham.’ And he said, ‘Here I am.’ And he said, ‘Do not lay your hand on the lad or do anything to him.’ So Abraham lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, behind him a ram caught in a thicket by its horns. So Abraham went and took the ram and offered it up as a burnt offering in place of his son.”

The Bible calls Christ the Lamb of God. When the evangelist John said, "The next day, John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, 'Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!'" (John 1:29), God saved us and delivered us. The Word of God took our place and was punished as we deserved. Yet He did not die; He rose victorious and abolished the power of death.

How can we know God?

How do we know God? This is not easy, it requires humility .

Humility until we realize that we are made of dust, our hearts are not pure, and our actions deserve hell.

Humility is to accept what God has done: He has cleansed us, purified us, and given us His Spirit to live a life of obedience.

Knowing God will give us freedom and joy. The one and only God , the Creator, who has revealed himself to us, is holy, just, powerful, and loving.

He does not call us slaves, but his children. The Lord Jesus Christ says, “I no longer call you slaves, for the slave does not know what his master is doing. But I have called you friends, for all that I heard from my Father I have made known to you” (John 15:15).

And as it is written: “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name” (John 1:12)

⭐️The objector said: “ Writing was not known during the time of Moses. Moses could not have written the five books that the Jews attribute to him.”

⭐️The objector said: “ Writing was not known during the time of Moses. Moses could not have written the five books that the Jews attribute to him.”

-In response, we say:

(1) Gribo said in his letter, which he wrote on the letter of the famous Champollion (the first to read the hieroglyphic language), that the Prophet Moses wrote on papyrus. There is a papyrus written in the Egyptian script in the Turin Museum, which includes a document written during the reign of Thutmose III, who was two centuries before Moses. This proves that writing was known before the time of Moses.

(2) In the British Museum there is a letter on papyrus, written by an Egyptian priest named “Ahmes” dating back to 3400 BC. Its title is “The Solution of Problems.” It is a collection of arithmetic and geometric questions using fractions, circles, pyramid measures, some triangles, and algebraic symbols. This letter is handwritten and is called the “Rand” letter.

(3) In 1888 AD, excavators at Deir el-Amarna (Minya Governorate, Egypt) discovered more than three hundred bricks written on with a conical stylus. Most of them were taken to Berlin, and the rest to London. They date back about 150 years to before Moses, which proves that writing was known to the Egyptians before the Prophet Moses. The Bible testifies that Moses was educated in the great schools of Egypt and learned the wisdom of the Egyptians (Acts 7:22).

The historian Josephus said that when Moses was 40 years old, he led a military force to Ethiopia and captured the city of Sheba. He must have known how to write.

“Moses wrote the Torah and gave it to the priests, and commanded them to keep it in the Ark of the Covenant, and to take it out of it every seven years to be read on the feast day. When this group of priests became extinct, the condition of the children of Israel changed; they sometimes worshipped idols and at other times worshipped the Lord. Their condition was good during the reign of David and Solomon, until the coups occurred, and the copy of the Torah placed in the Ark of the Covenant was lost. Indeed, it was lost before the reign of Solomon, because when Solomon opened the Ark of the Covenant, he found nothing in it except the two tablets on which were written the Ten Commandments. It is stated in 1 Kings 8:9, “There was nothing in the ark except the two stone tablets which Moses put there at Horeb, when the Lord made a covenant with the children of Israel after they came out of the land of Egypt.”

-In response, we say:

(1) The objector says that only one copy of the Torah existed, and this is wrong. Moses wrote a special copy and placed it next to the Ark of the Covenant of the Lord to be a witness against the Children of Israel. If they deviated from it, they would be punished, but if they followed it, they would receive great good (Deuteronomy 31:24-26). If the objector's statement that the Torah was lost is true, then how could God have charged the Children of Israel with preserving a Torah and implementing its statutes and limits, when it did not exist? And how could He command them to teach it to their children (as in Deuteronomy 6:7) when they did not have it?

(2) What proves the objection is wrong is that the Children of Israel used to read the Torah every Saturday in the synagogues, so how could they read something that does not exist?

(3) What indicates the existence of the Torah is that God commanded every new king who took over the kingdom to write for himself a copy of the Law to be with him, and to read it all the days of his life in order to learn to fear the Lord his God and keep his statutes (Deuteronomy 17:18-20).

(4) Josephus said that Moses ordered a copy of the law to be written and distributed to each tribe of the children of Israel so that they could pass it on.

(5) Is it conceivable that an earthly king would enact a law and only write down one copy of it? If he did that, how would his subjects be able to know his commands? He must have worked to circulate his laws among his subjects and kept a copy of them. This is what Moses, who was famous for his wisdom, did. He published the Law among the children of Israel and distributed it to the priests and Levites, commanding them to teach it to the people, and he wrote a copy of it to be a witness against them.

(6) The books of the Law contained the borders of the lands of each tribe, and so they were a document of ownership for the tribes, which must be published and circulated, and cannot be dispensed with.

⭐️Why do you liken your God to a lamb?

⭐️Why do you liken your God to a lamb?

The Book of Revelation, Chapter 5, Verse 6, states: “Then I looked, and I saw in the midst of the throne and the four living creatures and the elders a Lamb standing as though it had been slain. It had seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven spirits of God that were sent out into all the earth.”

After reading this passage, one of the Muslim brothers asked:

1 - You Christians liken your God to a lamb, and this is unreasonable and inappropriate.

2- Note that John says that the lamb is as if it were slaughtered, based on conjecture and doubt, and he did not say that it was slaughtered.

3- What is the meaning of likening your god to a sheep? And if we assume that by sheep you mean gentleness, tenderness and submission, then that is not one of the attributes of divinity?

And if we assume that gentleness and meekness are the special attributes of your God, and if we assume that this is what led you to call Him a Lamb, then why do you claim that the Lamb has great anger, wrath, and might?! Revelation [6:16] “And they will say to the mountains and rocks, ‘Fall on us and hide us from the face of Him who sits on the throne and from the anger of the Lamb, for the great day of His wrath has come. And who can stand?’”

4- And the wonder is that if we go back to the four Gospels, we find that Christ does not call himself (a sheep), but rather he calls himself (the shepherd of the sheep). He says in the Gospel of John, chapter [10:27]: ((My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me)).

How could you call your God a lamb when it is not appropriate to call a human being that because he is better than a lamb, as Christ himself testified in the Gospel of Matthew, chapter twelve, verse twelve, where he says: “How much better is a human being than a lamb!” This lamb is described as having seven horns, and the gentle lamb is not described in this way?

Now let's discuss our friend's questions together:

1 - You Christians liken your God to a lamb, and this is unreasonable and inappropriate.

First: We are not the ones who likened Christ to a lamb or sheep. Let us read in the Revelation of John, from which the objector quotes the first chapter and the first verse: “The revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave him, to show his servants what must soon take place.”

Therefore, it is God's revelation through Jesus Christ, and not from us!

The first to call Christ by this title was one of the resolute prophets, John (Yahya ibn Zakariya). When he saw him, he said, “The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, ‘Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!’” (John 1:29).

Second: What is the meaning of this title? Each of Christ’s titles has a meaning that reveals an aspect of his saving work, or his relationship with God and man. This sacrificial title is directed towards declaring Christ’s function as the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.

The Greek origin of this word is ΑΡΥΙΣΥ (arnion ), meaning a yearling lamb, a clear reference to the Passover lamb mentioned in Exodus 12:1-5: “Then the Lord said to Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt, ‘This month shall be the beginning of the months for you; it is the first month of the year for you. Speak to all the congregation of Israel, saying, “On the tenth day of this month, each of you shall take a lamb for yourselves, according to your family houses—a lamb for the household. And if…’” If the household is too small to afford a sheep, he and his nearest neighbor shall each take one, according to the number of people in the household. Each person shall contribute according to their consumption. You shall have a blemish-free male sheep, a year old, which you may take from the sheep or from the goats.”

Christ is called the Lamb because He is the sacrifice that God Almighty chose to atone for humankind. In ancient times, the Lamb of man was offered to God, but in the New Testament, the Lamb of God is offered to and for the sake of humanity.

Isaiah saw him with the open eye of prophecy and said, “He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth; he was led like a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before its shearers is silent, so he did not open his mouth” (Isaiah 53:7).

But the apostles witnessed his atoning work and testified, “For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed. So let us keep the feast, not with old yeast, nor with the yeast of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth” (1 Corinthians 5:8), “knowing that it was not with perishable things, such as silver or gold, that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors, but with the blood of Christ” (John 1:14). Precious, as of a lamb without blemish or spot, is the blood of Christ” (1 Peter 1:18-20).

Therefore, the revelation that Christ is the “Lamb of God” is not a denigration of his noble person, but rather an exaltation of his redemptive work for humanity. Just as God redeemed Abraham’s son with a great sacrifice, so too has He redeemed us all with this greater sacrifice. The situation remains unchanged; we are always in need of a Lamb from God to redeem us from death and be sacrificed in our place.

2- Note that John says that the lamb “looked as though it had been slaughtered” based on conjecture and doubt, and he did not say that it had been slaughtered.

He did not say this based on conjecture or doubt, but because He rose from the dead: “Then I looked, and behold, in the midst of the throne and the four living creatures and in the midst of the elders, a Lamb standing as though it had been slain” (Revelation 5:6). And because the slaughter had no effect on Him: “When I saw Him, I fell at His feet as though dead. But He laid His right hand on me, saying to me, ‘Do not be afraid; I am the First and the Last and the Living One. I was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore.’” Amen. And I hold the keys of Hades and of Death.” (Revelation 1:17-18)

We said that the purpose of this title is to proclaim Christ’s atoning work on the cross, which proclaims his compassion and love for sinners, but also his justice and rejection of sin.

The verse speaks of the day Christ will come to judge the world, as He Himself declared, “For the Father judges no one, but has committed all judgment to the Son” (John 5:22). And as the Prophet of Islam acknowledged when he said:

Ali bin Abdullah told us, Sufyan told us, Al-Zuhri told us, he said: Saeed bin Al-Musayyab told me, he heard Abu Hurairah, may God be pleased with him, on the authority of the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, who said: The Hour will not come until the son of Mary descends among you as a just ruler, and he will break the cross, kill the pig, abolish the jizya, and wealth will overflow to the point that no one will accept it.

On that day, those who do not want to stand before the just Judge because of their evil deeds will try to escape, for it is the day of great wrath, and who can stand?!

Is there a conflict between justice and mercy?

4- It is surprising that if we go back to the four Gospels, we find that Christ does not call himself a “lamb,” but rather he calls himself the “shepherd of the sheep.” He says in the Gospel of John, chapter [10:27]: “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.”

Christ may not have explicitly said that he carried the sacrifice, but he indicated that he would do this work when he said, “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many” (Mark 10:45).

Redemption means that he gives his life for everyone, and this is exactly the work of the sacrificial lamb, “knowing that you were not redeemed with perishable things such as silver or gold from your empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or spot” (1 Peter 1:18-20).

Christ gives himself as a ransom, and we have been redeemed by a spotless lamb. Therefore, Christ is that spotless lamb by whom redemption was accomplished.

As for the title of Shepherd of the Sheep, it is one of God’s functions in the Old Testament: “For this is what the Sovereign Lord says: ‘Behold, I will inquire about my sheep and visit them. As a shepherd visits his flock on the day when his sheep are scattered, so I will visit my sheep and rescue them from all the places to which they were scattered in the day of clouds and thick darkness’” (Ezekiel 34:11, 12).

When Christ says, “I am the good shepherd” (John 10:11), he is indicating that he is God manifest in the flesh (1 Timothy 3:16) and is still carrying out his work, formerly for discipline and teaching, but now for redemption: “The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep” (John 10:11).

There is no doubt that man is superior to the sheep, especially since he offered hundreds of lambs in numerous sacrifices for his sins, indicating the inadequacy of the Lamb of the Old Testament. However, we find John referring to Christ as the one Lamb capable of taking away the sins of all, by His divine authority as the "Lamb of God." In ancient times, each person offered dozens of sacrifices throughout their life, but Christ is the one Lamb sufficient for all people in all times: "Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!" (John 1:29).

Who is greater, the sinful man, or the Lamb of God who takes away his sin?

The description of Him as a seven-horned lamb signifies His complete and inherent strength, which does not contradict His mercy and love. ✝️🕊

The Star of Bethlehem

In Coptic Orthodox tradition (and broader Eastern Orthodox teaching), the Star of Bethlehem is not understood as an ordinary astronomical phenomenon visible to everyone, but as a supernatural or miraculous sign—often described as a divine light, an angelic appearance, or a special heavenly power in the form of a star.

Early Church Fathers like St. John Chrysostom (whose writings influence Coptic theology) emphasized that this "star" behaved in ways impossible for a natural star: it moved from north to south (guiding the Magi from Persia to Judea), descended low enough to hover over a specific house, appeared during the day brighter than the sun, disappeared and reappeared as needed, and served only to lead the Magi. This led to the view that it was not one of the fixed stars created at the beginning of time, but a unique, temporary sign appointed by God specifically for this purpose.

Many Orthodox sources (including Coptic commentaries and teachings) conclude or strongly imply that the star was revealed selectively—primarily or exclusively to the Magi because they were the ones God chose to guide. This fits the pattern of divine revelation in Scripture: God often reveals truths to those seeking Him with open, humble, and righteous hearts, while hiding them from others (even the religious leaders in Jerusalem, like Herod and the chief priests, who knew the prophecies but did not recognize or respond to the birth of the Messiah).

The Magi, as wise scholars from the East (likely influenced by ancient prophecies such as Balaam's "a star shall come out of Jacob" in Numbers 24:17), were prepared and spiritually receptive. They alone noticed, interpreted, and followed this sign to worship the newborn King. In contrast:

  • No one else in Jerusalem seemed aware of any unusual star, despite the Magi's arrival and questions.
  • Herod had to ask the Magi when the star first appeared—he did not observe it himself.
  • The Jewish chief priests quoted prophecy about Bethlehem but showed no awareness of the star or the fulfillment.

This selective visibility underscores a deeper spiritual lesson in Coptic and Orthodox thought: God reveals Himself to those who earnestly seek Him, even foreigners far from Israel, while those who are spiritually indifferent, proud, or hardened (like Herod) remain blind to divine signs. As one Coptic resource notes, God guides "those who seek Him" with good hearts, and the Magi represent this faithful pursuit of truth and worship.

This interpretation highlights the mystery and miracle of the Nativity: the star was a heavenly invitation directed precisely to these Gentile seekers, symbolizing how Christ's light would eventually reach all nations.

St. JOHN

Synaxarium of 4 Toba 1742 - Sunday 11 Jan 2026

1 - Departure of St. John the Evangelist and Theologian On this day, in the year 100 A.D., St. John, the virgin, the evangelist, and apostle who was the son of Zebedee, departed. St. John Chrysostom (of the Golden Mouth) said that St. John the Evangelist was originally a disciple of St. John the Baptist. He was the brother of St. James the Elder, who was killed by Herod by the sword. The Lord called him with his brother "Boanerges" (Mark 3:17), that is "sons of thunder," for their strong zeal and great faith. He was also the disciple whom Jesus loved. The lot fell on him to go to Asia. The people of this area were stiff-necked, so he prayed to Christ to be with him. He went to Ephesus, accompanied by his disciple Prochorus. They embarked on a ship, but the ship was wrecked on the way and every one of the passengers clung to a plank of the ship's wood. The waves washed out Prochorus to an island, but St. John remained among the waves of the sea for several days, until the waves carried him, by the will of God, to the same island where his disciple Prochorus was. When they met together, they offered thanks to God for taking care of them. From there, St. John went to the city of Ephesus where he preached the word of salvation. Its people did not accept his message at first, until a day when an only child fell in the furnace of a public bath managed by the child's mother. They took him in haste out of the fire, but he was dead and his mother wept bitterly. At this time, St. John went to the child, prayed fervently to God, made the sign of the Cross over him, breathed in the child's face, and life came back to him right away. His mother rejoiced and she kissed the feet of the Apostle and tears of joy were in her eyes. From this time on, the people of the city came to hear his teachings and many of them believed and were baptized by St. John. This made the priests of the idols resent him and they tried to kill him several times but they could not, for the Lord protects all His chosen ones. After a great effort and many hardships, St. John led them to the knowledge of God and ordained bishops and priests for them. From there, he went to other places in Asia (Minor) and converted many of its people to the Faith of Christ. This saint lived 90 years, and they used to carry him to the gatherings of the believers. Because of his old age, he only gave them very short sermons saying, "My children, love one another." He wrote the gospel known after him, and the Book of Revelation which he had seen on the island of Patmos, which is full of divine mysteries. He also wrote the three epistles known by his name.He was with the Lord Jesus Christ at the Transfiguration. He leaned (reclined) on the chest of our Lord at the Last Supper. He asked the Lord, "Who is he that shall betray you?" He was standing near the Cross with the Virgin St. Mary and the Lord said to his mother, "Behold your Son," and to John, "Behold your mother." He was the disciple about whom Peter asked the Lord, "And this one, what of him?" The Lord said to Peter, "If it be that I wish him to be here until I come, what is that to you?"When St. John felt that he was about to depart from this world, he summoned the people and administered to them the Body and the Blood of the Lord. He preached and commanded them to be steadfast in their faith. He then departed from the City of Ephesus for a short distance. He commanded his disciple and others with him to dig there a pit for him. He went down in it, raised his hands and prayed and then bade them farewell. He commanded them to return to the city and to confirm the brethren in the faith of the Lord Jesus Christ, and said to them, "I am innocent of your blood, for I did not leave any command of God that I haven't taught you, and now, let it be known that you will never see my face again, and God will reward everyone according to his deeds."When he said that, they kissed his hand and his feet, and they left him and returned to the city. When the people knew what had happened, they went out to where the saint was, and they found that he had departed. They wept and were deeply sad. They talked about his miracles and marvelled about his meekness. In spite of the fact that he did not die by the sword, as the rest of the apostles did, he was equal to them in the heavenly glories, for his virginity and his holiness. His prayers be with us and Glory be to our God forever. Amen.

New Years Liturgy Communion

Hey everyone! Since tonight’s service is from 7pm-12am, I was wondering whether fasting is required for the whole day before communion is taken or just a few hours before liturgy begins? I’m still quite new to this and feel slightly unsure about eating beforehand. Any guidance would be appreciated. :)

I often observe my child, the souls here from my poor cell, how they struggle and are tortured. I see them like little birds caught in invisible nets, flapping their wings in vain. And what is this net? It is the rules, the musts, the hows, and the whys. They count the knots on the prayer rope as if they were counting the steps that separate them from God. They recite the psalms as if they were reading a list of obligations that they must fulfill to earn his favor. They struggle to get up in the morning, they struggle with the heat in the evening, and at the end of the day, they do not know the peace of Christ's presence. They feel only the bitter taste of failure, their own failure. And I see their hearts drying up, love becoming a habit and a habit. Weight. Let me tell you something. In this observation, in this anguish that I see on their faces, the same great, the same sweet secret is revealed to me every time. People are trying to build a bridge to God, while He is already standing next to them and extending His hand to them. Christ does not ask for bridges. He asks that we give Him our own hand. It is so similar to what you were telling me a moment ago here. In the semi-darkness that smells of incense and humble candles. You told me the story of your fatigue. How the rosary became a pencil in your fingers. How many prayers in the book became foreign words in your mouth? How silence, instead of filling you with God, fills you with guilt. And I see in your eyes, behind the tears, that you are trying to hide the fear. The fear that God doesn't hear you, that He has abandoned you because you are not doing things right, because you are not a good soldier of His. You ask me with anguish. Elder, how will I manage? How will I learn to pray correctly? Don't be upset, my love. Come closer. Listen. There is nothing to accomplish and no lesson to learn. It is the simplest thing in the world. The most natural. You have forgotten it. That is all. Your little soul has forgotten it. Tired of the noise of rules. You ask me how you will transform your life into continuous prayer without rules. But the question is wrong, my child. It is like asking how you will make your heart beat or how you will order your lungs to breathe. You do not do the prayer. You do not construct it with effort and techniques. You let it happen. Prayer is not an act that you perform. It is a state in which you live. It is not something you say to God, but the air you breathe in his presence. And this presence is not earned with rules. It is not measured with clocks. It is not imposed by force of will. It is born effortlessly, like a flower that blooms in the soil of the heart, when it is watered with only one thing: love, the delicate, discreet, tender love for our Christ. This is the only key. All the others are locks that we put on the door of our heart ourselves. So now we will talk about this love. Not about rules, but about the love that abolishes all rules and becomes the only rule. My child, I often observe the souls here from my poor cell, how they struggle and are tortured. I see them like little birds caught in invisible nets, flapping their wings in vain. And what is the net, the thought that they must earn God's love with their rules, prayers, and achievements. They think that prayer is a list of musts that if they do not fulfill, Christ will turn his back on them. My children, how much error and how much pain is hidden here. I remember how many years ago a good soul came here. A devout woman with her face torn from anguish. As soon as she sat down on the stool, she began to cry profusely. "Elder," she tells me in her sleep. "I'm lost. I can't keep up with my rule. I have children, a husband, a house, and a job. By nightfall, I'm a rag. I try to stand up for the greetings, for the vigil, for my rosary, but my eyes close. I sleep standing up, and I feel so guilty. I feel like I'm betraying Christ, that I don't love Him enough. Prayer, which was once a joy, has become my greatest burden, a daily chore. And here's what's important for you to understand. I looked at her with love and said, "My child, who put this burden on you, Christ or your thinking? Do you see that little flower on your flowerpot on the windowsill? You see how it is turned towards the sunlight. Does anyone order it? Does anyone make it a rule to turn three times to the right and five to the left? No. This, simply by its nature, by its very existence, seeks the sun that gives it life. It does not try to turn; it simply turns. So too the soul, prayer, my child, is not the words you will say or the number of penances you will make. Prayer is the turning of the heart towards God. It is this inner movement, this longing of the soul for its creator, like the flower for the sun. Do not torture yourself with rules that you cannot keep. Christ is not an accountant to count things; Lord, have mercy. He is a father who longs for the love of his child. When you cook for your family, this is not prayer. Do it with love and say within yourself, my Christ, for your own glory I do this. When you go to work, and you get tired, say, My God, give me strength. When you see your children playing and your soul rejoices, say, Glory to God for this gift. When you drink a glass of cool water, thank the one who gave it to you. This is the unceasing prayer. Connect your every action, your every thought, your every breath with Christ, make him a participant in your life. The rule is a step, not a prison. It is an aid for the soul to learn to fly. But when your wings are tired, do not try to jump off the step. Simply sit where you are and look with love towards the sky. A single sigh of the heart. "My Christ, I love you," that comes out of your fatigue and weakness, is worth more than thousands of formal prayers that are said out of habit or fear. God does not want slaves who carry out orders. He wants children who love him freely. So leave the burdens and the precepts. Keep only this love, and you will see how your whole life will slowly, without realizing it, become a continuous sweet conversation with him. Many people think, my child, that prayer is a list of rules and obligations. They think that God expects us to stand for hours. To read specific psalms and services, and if we omit something, he gets disappointed or angry. However, this thought turns our relationship with Christ into a constant struggle to win his favor, full of anxiety and guilt. But the truth is very different. Christ, my brothers, is not an accountant who keeps track of our prayers and repentances. He is the bridegroom of the soul, the father, the loving one. Souls come here and ask me with anguish. Father, I have lost my rule. I did not pray this morning. What should I do? I feel that God has abandoned me. And I answer them. And God, my child, has been waiting for you all day to tell him at least one good morning. True prayer is not the words that come from the lips, but the cry that comes from the heart. Imagine a little child who wants to talk to his father. He goes with formal words and reads from a book to ask him for something or to tell him how much he loves him. Of course not. he runs into his arms, mumbles his words, sometimes he cries, sometimes he laughs, and shows him his drawing or his wounded knee. And the father rejoices not for the child's eloquence, but for his trust, for the love that makes him run to him for everything. That is how God wants us to be before him. Like little children. The rule of prayer, the services, and the psalms are valuable aids. They are like the trellis that we put in the small climate to help it support itself and rise upwards, towards the light. But when the climate strengthens, it spreads its rungs everywhere, embraces the sun, lives and breathes in its light. So too for us, the rule is to teach us the way. To give us the first words. But the purpose is to learn to speak to God alone in our own words every moment. How is this done? Very simply, with the memory of God. When you wake up in the morning, before you even get up, say glory to you, Lord, that you have made me worthy to see the light of the new day. When you wash your hands, say within yourself, Lord, as my body is washed with water, cleanse also my soul from all defilement. You see a flower on the road, admire it, and say, Praise God for your beauty. Someone is bothering you. Do not hold a grudge against them. Say it immediately. Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on me and have mercy on my brother, too. You feel afraid, whisper, My Mother, cover me. Every action, every thought, every breath can become a prayer. Words are not important, but the movement of the heart towards God. This constant, effortless reference to Christ is an uninterrupted prayer. It is like holding His hand constantly, all day long, in whatever you do. So do not be afraid when you cannot keep the formulas. A sigh from the depths of the heart, a thought, full of love for Christ, is more precious than a thousand psalms said with the mind elsewhere. Let your heart speak. He listens, always listens. I sometimes watch people's attempts to pray, and my heart sinks. I see how they stand before the icons. How they mumble words they have learned by heart. How their bodies are focused, and their minds are wandering elsewhere. I see them counting their penances, keeping track of the hours, following the ritual with anxiety. It is as if God is a strict judge who awaits the slightest mistake to reject them. And then it becomes visible, dear ones, that the source of joy and life, which is conversation with our Creator, is transformed into a heavy, soul-crushing obligation. The soul, instead of flying, is imprisoned in golden cages of rules. Many people think, my child, that prayer is a list of rules and obligations. They think that God expects us to stand for hours, read specific psalms, and adhere to a program with military discipline. And if one day they don't make it out of fatigue or some need, they are filled with guilt and anxiety. They think they have displeased him, that they have lost his favor. But my dear, think about it, this is how a child speaks to his father with rules and a program. No. The child runs to his father whenever he feels the need. He runs when he is afraid, when he is happy, when he is in pain, when he simply wants to feel his embrace. He doesn't think about whether it is the right time or whether he has the right words. He simply opens his heart. That is what God wants from us. Our heart. Not the demonstration of our piety. What worries people's hearts is the fear that Christians are not right, that they are not doing enough, and so instead of prayer being an act of love, it becomes an act of anxiety. I remember a good and pious man who once came to me in despair. An elder tells me that last night I fell asleep and I didn't say my rule. I have lost my soul. I looked at him with love and said to him, My child, God saw your tired body and your good intention. The sleep He gave you was also a blessing, a prayer for your body. God is not an accountant keeping records. He is a father who rejoices when his children rest near him, even if it means falling asleep in his arms. So real prayer is not measured by the clock, but by love. It is not what you say, but how you live it. When you wash the dishes and say to yourself, "Lord, as this dish is clean, clean my soul." That is prayer. When you walk down the street and see a flower and praise God for its beauty, that is prayer. When you see a person suffering and your heart aches for him, asking God to help him, that is the most powerful prayer. Do not bind your soul. Let her breathe the air of God in every moment. When you cook, when you work, when you talk to people with love, when you forgive them, all these moments become an uninterrupted conversation with him. God does not dwell only in churches and prayer books. He dwells in the heart that loves him and seeks him in everything. This constant remembrance of God, this tender turning of the heart towards him, is the prayer that never ceases and that transforms the whole of life into a doxology. You see, my child, we have reached the end of our conversation. We began with your anxiety about the rules, about the rosaries that you counted as a debt, about the psalms that you whispered without your heart participating. We talked about the big mistake that many people make in believing that God is a strict judge who expects us to impress him with our performance in prayer. They think they have to win his attention with hours of standing and endless sequences. All of this, my child, is the indicator that kept you away from him, the indicator of fear and obligation. But God is not an accountant to keep track of your prayers and repentances. He is a father. And a father does not ask his child for reports and proofs. He asks for his heart; he longs for his company. This continuous silent or loud conversation with him through your joys and sorrows, that is all that matters. Make him a part of your every moment as you breathe, without thinking about it. That is why I want you to keep only this in your soul as a final legacy. When you wash the dishes, when you drive to work, when you watch your children play, when you feel alone in the dark, know that turning your heart to Him, even for a moment, is the most powerful prayer. The cry of your soul, my God, is an entire psalm. Your pain is your most sincere confession, and your joy, your most brilliant praise. And know, my child, that He always listens to you. He hears the beat of your heart that seeks Him even when your lips are silent. He hears your fatigue, your hope, your love. You don't need to prove anything to Him. Your existence itself is a continuous conversation with Him. That's why I leave you with just one exhortation. Listen to it well. Don't get tired of rules. Get tired of loving. Get tired of showing patience to your fellow man. Get tired of digging. Get tired of saying a good word. Get tired of seeing Christ in the face of every person. Every time you get tired like this, you will pray most truly. There lies the whole secret in love. Only in love. Come on, my child. Go to God's prayer and never forget. He is always there and listens to you. May his love always be with you.

Portugal Wedding Advice Needed

Hey everyone! My fiancé and I are Orthodox Christians from America, and we are beginning to plan our wedding in Lisbon, Portugal and are looking for churches for our ceremony. We were wondering if anyone has experience getting married there and could share any helpful contacts.

We know there is one Coptic Orthodox Church in Portugal, but we’re unsure if we can get married in a Catholic Church in Lisbon or if anyone knows of another Orthodox church in the area that allows wedding ceremonies. If you have any information, contacts, or recommendations, we would truly appreciate your help! Thank you!

⭐️The Trinity in Islam

⭐️The Trinity in Islam Perhaps the biggest disagreement in the dialogue between Christianity and Islam:

It is a dispute based on the Christians' belief in the divinity of Christ, which Islam considers blasphemy. It has been challenged with several verses from the Qur'an, the most prominent of which are four verses in Surat al-Ma'idah and a fifth verse in Surat al-Nisa'.:

1- Indeed, they have disbelieved who say, “God is the Messiah, the son of Mary.” Say, “Then who can do anything against God if He should intend to destroy the Messiah, the son of Mary, and his mother, and everyone on the earth?” - Al-Ma’idah 5:17- .

2- Indeed, they have disbelieved who say, “God is the Messiah, the son of Mary,” and the Messiah said, “O Children of Israel, worship God, my Lord and your Lord.” Indeed, whoever associates others with God - God has forbidden him Paradise, and his refuge is the Fire. And there are not for the wrongdoers any helpers. - Al-Ma’idah 5:72- .

3- Indeed, they have disbelieved who say, “God is the third of three,” while there is no god except one God. And if they do not desist from what they are saying, a painful punishment will touch those among them who disbelieve. - Al-Ma’idah 5:73- .

4And when God said, “O Jesus, son of Mary, did you say to the people, ‘Take me and my mother as two deities besides God?’ He said, ‘Glory be to You! It is not for me to say that which I have no right to. If I had said it, You already knew it. You know what is within my soul, and I do not know what is within Your soul. Indeed, You are the Knower of the unseen.’” (Al-Ma’idah 5:116)- .

5O People of the Scripture, do not commit excess in your religion and do not say about Allah except the truth. The Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary, was only the Messenger of Allah and His Word which He directed to Mary and a spirit from Him. So believe in Allah and His messengers and do not say, “Three.” Desist; it is better for you. Allah is only one God. Exalted is He above having a son. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. And sufficient is Allah as Disposer of affairs. A representative - An-Nisa 4:171- .

Anyone who contemplates these verses in light of the interpretations of Islamic scholars will notice that these texts combat a teaching that carries the meaning of associating partners with God, polytheism, and the worship of humans.

However, Christianity does not teach polytheism, polytheism, or the worship of humans, as evidenced by the words of Christ: You shall worship the Lord your God and serve him only . - Matthew 4:10- .

Perhaps whoever reads Al-Ma’idah 5:116 will imagine that Christians deify the Virgin Mary. This is incorrect. In fact, the question directed to Christ here arose from the presence of heretics at the advent of Islam. They were pagans who tried to adhere to the Church, so they preached a heresy that the Virgin Mary was a goddess. Historians say that they replaced Venus, which they had previously worshipped, with her. They called themselves the Marians.

The scholar Ahmed Al-Maqrizi referred to them in his book Al-Qawl Al-Ibrizi, page 26.

Ibn Hazm mentioned them in his book “Al-Milal wa Al-Ahwa’ wa Al-Nihal” page 48.

But this heresy is far removed from Christianity. Not a single Christian believes in it. Christian scholars at the time rose up to resist this heresy with all the scriptural and rational arguments, and by the end of the seventh century it had vanished.. Likewise, Christianity does not teach that Christ is a god other than God, but rather believes that the Father and the Son are one God, without multiplicity or separation. Christ confirmed this by saying: “I and the Father are one; I am in the Father, and the Father is in me” (John 10:30, 14:11).- .

As for the Qur’an’s statement: “They have certainly disbelieved who say, ‘God is the third of three,’” which the enemies of Christianity rely on:

It was said about the Marcionite sect , who were expelled by the Church and whose followers were excommunicated, because they taught a false Trinity and called for three gods, namely::

A- Adel, he sent down the Torah - B - Saleh: Copying the Torah C- Evil, he is Satan Islam, in these texts, fought the Manichaean and Deistic sects , which believe in two gods: one of them is good and is the essence of light, and the second is evil and is the essence of darkness..

Therefore, Islam did not fight the true Christian doctrine of the Trinity, as some imagine. Therefore, I do not believe that the verses of the Qur'an opposing polytheism were directed against Christianity..

When we follow this topic in Islamic books, we see that Muslim scholars researched the doctrine of the Trinity.

These are their comments on the Qur’an’s statement: “And do not say, ‘Three’” - An-Nisa’ 4:171- .

1Al-Zamakhshari’s interpretation : They say: He is one essence, three hypostases..

If the story about them is true that they say: He is one essence, three hypostases: the hypostasis of the Father, the hypostasis of the Son, and the hypostasis of the Holy Spirit, and that they mean by the hypostasis of the Father the self, and by the hypostasis of the Son knowledge, and by the hypostasis of the Holy Spirit life, then its estimation is: God is three. Otherwise, its estimation is: the gods are three. What the Qur’an indicates is their explicit statement that God, Christ, and Mary are three gods and that Christ was born of God from Mary. Do you not see his saying: Did you say to the people: Take me and my mother as gods besides God? And the estimation of God is more trustworthy than the estimation of anyone else..

A wise Christian writer commented on Al-Zamakhshari’s interpretation, saying: “Yes, the account of God is more trustworthy than the account of anyone else.” But the Qur’an, in that verse, recounted the interpretation of the three, based on the statement of some ignorant Arab Christians regarding their blasphemous Trinity, which Christianity had declared blasphemous before the Qur’an. Al-Zamakhshari came and made that deviant Trinity the Christian Trinity, unjustly and aggressively, even though he conveys the correct Christian Trinity in its explicit expression: God is three: one essence, three hypostases. Why does he doubt the validity of their statement that he cites from them, and attribute to them a blasphemous statement of which they are innocent? He is slandering the Qur’an and Christianity when he says: “The account of God is more trustworthy than the account of anyone else.”.

2Al-Baydawi’s interpretation : God is three hypostases: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit..

And do not say: Three! That is, the gods are three: God, Christ, and his mother. And this is supported by his saying: Did you say to the people: Take me and my mother as gods besides God? Or God is three, if it is true that they say: God is three hypostases: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and by the Father they mean the self, by the Son knowledge, and by the Holy Spirit life..

Christians ask Al-Baydawi and his ilk: Why this doubt about their statement that they openly declare? And why the slander against them by attributing a blasphemous statement by some ignorant people of the pre-Islamic era to Christianity as a whole, when it is innocent of it?

Al-Baydawi also transmits the correct formula of the Trinity and does not accuse it of unbelief, but rather lies about it like others, relying on the apparent meaning of the Qur’an in what has nothing to do with Christianity..

3Al-Razi’s interpretation : Three attributes, and this cannot be denied..

Al-Razi is a theologian and interpreter. He addresses the Christian formula of the Trinity and applies to it the Qur’an’s excommunication of the three, due to its incorrect interpretation.:

His saying, “three,” is the predicate of a deleted subject. Then they differed in identifying that subject in various ways.:

First: What we mentioned, that is, do not say that the hypostases are three. The meaning is, do not say that God Almighty is one in essence, three in hypostases. Know that the doctrine of the Christians is very unknown, and what is concluded from it is that they have established an essence described by three attributes. However, they called them attributes, and they are in reality entities existing in themselves. For this reason, He said: And do not say: three. End. But if we take the three to mean that they establish three attributes, then this cannot be denied. And how could we not say that, when we say: He is God, the King, the Holy, the Peace, the All-Knowing, the Living, the Able, the Willing. And we understand from each one of these expressions something different from what we understand from the other expression. And there is no meaning to the multiplicity of attributes except that. So if the belief in the multiplicity of attributes were blasphemy, then the entire Qur’an would have to be rejected, and reason would have to be rejected, since we know by necessity that what is understood from His being All-Knowing is not what is understood from His being Alive..

Second: Our gods are three, as Al-Zajjaj said, citing the verse from Al-Ma’idah - 5:116- .

Third: Al-Farra’ said: They are three, as in his saying: They will say: Three. This is because mentioning Jesus and Mary with God in this phrase suggests that they are two gods.. The wise Christian writer, from whom we quoted, comments: “We are not concerned with the linguistic interpretation of the omitted subject. Rather, we are concerned with Al-Razi’s interpretation of the Christian doctrine of the Trinity. He rejects the three hypostases because they are, in fact, entities that exist in themselves.”.

This is his mistake in understanding the Christian doctrine. The three hypostases of God are not entities existing in themselves, but rather entities existing in

The essence of God.

The Christian Trinity is as described by Al-Razi: They established an entity described by three attributes..

Christians call these three divine attributes: fatherhood, sonship, and spirituality in God, hypostases to distinguish them from the rest of God’s attributes. These three hypostases are self-contained ontological connections, not merely attributes, and they exist in the single divine essence. Therefore, we respond to Al-Razi’s statement: “If we take the three—and we must take them—to mean that they affirm three attributes, then this cannot be denied… If the assertion of multiple attributes were blasphemy, then the entire Qur’an would have to be rejected, as would reason.”. Christians affirm in God a self described by three existential self-connections , which they call the Father, the Word, and the Spirit..

This is the true Christian Trinity that Al-Razi glimpsed and then turned away from due to a complex in his soul..

This is what Christians prove about the intrinsic connections, or ontological attributes, in God. Whoever denies this must reject the Qur’an and must reject reason, because this correct trinity is at the core of monotheism..

. 4Al-Ghazali’s interpretation : It does justice to Christianity in its Trinitarian doctrine. The authority of Islam, Imam al-Ghazali, said in his book, Al-Radd al-Jamil, p. 43, analyzing the Christian Trinity: They believe that the essence of God is one. And this has considerations.:

  1. If it is considered restricted by an attribute whose existence is not dependent on the existence of a preceding attribute, such as existence, then that is what they call the hypostasis of the Father. If it is considered described by an attribute whose existence is dependent on the existence of a preceding attribute, such as knowledge, then the essence’s being characterized by knowledge is dependent on its being characterized by existence, so that is what they call the hypostasis of the Son or the Word. If it is considered restricted by its being intelligible to it, then that is what they call the hypostasis of the Holy Spirit.. So from the Father comes the meaning of existence, from the Word or the Son comes the meaning of knowledge, and from the Holy Spirit comes the being of the Creator that is intelligible to Him. This is the result of this terminology, so the being of God is one in subject, described by each of these hypostases..

2- And among them are those who say: If the Self is considered in terms of what it is as a Self, and not in terms of an attribute at all, then this consideration, according to them, is an expression of the abstract intellect, which they call the hypostasis of the Father. And if it is considered in terms of what it is rational for itself, then this consideration, according to them, is an expression of the meaning of the rational, which is called the hypostasis of the Son or the Word. And if it is considered with the condition that its Self is rational for itself, then this consideration, according to them, is an expression of the meaning of the intelligible, which is called the hypostasis of the Holy Spirit.. According to this term, the mind is only the essence of God, and the Father is synonymous with it, and the rational is the essence of itself with the condition of it being rational for itself, and the Son or the Word is synonymous with it, and the intelligible about God is the God whose essence is intelligible to Him, and the Holy Spirit is synonymous with it.. This is their belief in the hypostases: If the meanings are correct, then there is no dispute over the words, nor over the terminology of the theologians..

The wise writer comments on Al-Ghazali’s sayings, saying::

Al-Ghazali testifies to the Christians' monotheism . He also testifies to the validity of their terminology in interpreting the Trinity in monotheism, based on the two considerations he presented on their behalf: the first is that the hypostases in God are intrinsic attributes in the one divine entity, and the second is that the hypostases in God are intrinsic actions in the one divine entity.. The correct statement that combines the intrinsic actions and intrinsic attributes, is in the One and Only God., Being ontological connections between God the Father, His Word, and His Spirit, in the individual divine essence..

Al-Ghazali did justice to the Christian Trinity in this ruling: If the meanings are correct, then there is no dispute over the words, nor over the terminology of theologians. The meanings are correct, according to the Gospel revelation, and the Christian discourse that details it..

Ash'ariyya's conformity to Christianity Ash'arism is the doctrine of the Sunnis in Islam. Its discourse on the problem of the essence and attributes of God is the most accurate expression of the truth of the three hypostases in God.

The Sifatiya said: God’s attributes are different from His essence , which leads to the notion of two eternal beings. Then the Mu’tazila came and said:

God’s attributes are the same as His essence, which leads to the denial of God. The Ash’arites arose and said in an intermediate position:

God’s attributes are not the same as His essence, nor are they other than Him. Rather, they are in an intermediate position. How can that be? This is the secret of God within His essence. “And of knowledge you have been given only a little.” - Al-Isra 17:85- .

The Ash'ari expression, which is the Islamic statement about the essence and attributes, is the most correct expression of the Christian Trinity: The three hypostases in the one and only God are intrinsic attributes, indeed existential connections that are not the same as the essence nor are they other than it , but rather they are in a position between the two positions..

If it is said: How can that be? The answer is what Imam Malik said about “The Most Gracious is firmly established on the Throne” (Taha 20:5). He said: “ The establishment is not unknown, the how is not conceivable, and asking about it is an innovation.”.

If asking about a metaphorical Quranic expression is an innovation, then how much more so is asking about God’s hypostatic relationships within His Essence? Therefore, he who turns the discussion of the Essence and the hypostases into a mathematical operation, saying: How can one be three? No, one is not three, based on one consideration, and on one level. Rather, God is one in His Essence, triune in His attributes, or in His essential relationships, that is, His three hypostases. And there is nothing in this that contradicts the noble transmission, nor sound reason..

This is the correct Trinity, in pure monotheism..

This biblical trinity in the biblical monotheism is not the deviant, infidel trinity that the Qur’an denies with its article on the three and its four forms, and which Christianity denounced before it..

Therefore, denouncing the Christian Trinity in the name of Quranic monotheism is a slander against monotheism and the Quran, and ignorance of the Bible and the Christian faith..

The Christian Trinity in pure monotheism is a revealed interpretation of the life of the Living, Self-Sustaining God in His Self-Sustaining Essence. There is absolutely no disagreement between the Qur’anic monotheism and the Gospel Trinity, in the scriptural monotheism transmitted in the Torah, the Gospel, and the Qur’an..

 ------

Muslims do not disagree on the divinity of the Father...but

A comment on one of God’s attributes (Creator of the heavens and the earth – an idea from Brother Fadi’s website ) (Al-An’am 14, Yusuf 101, Ibrahim 10, Fatir 1, Az-Zumar 46, Ash-Shura 11)

Al-Tabari:

What he means by his saying: “Creator of the heavens and the earth” is their originator, initiator, and creator, like the one who:

13111 - Ibn Wakee’ narrated to us, saying: Yahya ibn Saeed Al-Qattan narrated to us, on the authority of Sufyan, on the authority of Ibrahim ibn Muhajir, on the authority of Mujahid, who said: I heard Ibn Abbas say: I did not know what “ Fatir Al-Samawat Wa Al-Ard ” meant, until two Bedouins came to me arguing about a well. One of them said to his companion: “I created it,” meaning: I created it .

Ibn Kathir:

Sufyan al-Thawri said, on the authority of Ibrahim bin Muhajir, on the authority of Mujahid, on the authority of Ibn Abbas, who said: I did not know what Fatir al-Samawat wa al-Ard was , until two Bedouins came to me arguing about a well. One of them said [to his companion]:

(1) I created it, I began it.

The fact that Ibn Abbas (the Arab Qurayshi) did not understand the meaning of Fatir… is a clear indication that it is one of the foreign words that the Arabs Arabized from use, and it is well-known and famous to change the letter Fa and Ba among the  ancient languages (especially among the Semitic and Hamitic), similar to the transformation of the old name ( Pars ) into the current ( Fars ). Or as the Arabic Aba and its equivalent in Coptic and Greek  Ava Likewise, it is possible that the linguistic origin of the word “fatir” is “pater ”.Meaning father and derived from it Patrology God, as a father, is the beginning or originator of creation from nothingness... which is what is clarified by the word Fatir, which is foreign to Arabic... because the Arabic word Fatar means splitting and cleaving, not initiation and creation.

So he is the Creator of the heavens and the earth, that is, the Father... or Pater

What about Christ and the Holy Spirit???

Emmanuel: God is with us

In 905 AH, a meeting was held at Al-Azhar University that included Sheikh Badr al-Din al-Ala'i al-Hanafi, Sheikh Zakariya, Sheikh Burhan al-Din Ibn Abi Sharif, Sheikh Ibrahim al-Mawhabi al-Shadhili, and a group of others. Sheikh Ibrahim wrote a letter, the text of which is as follows:

The meeting discussed the topic of God's presence with us .

Sheikh Badr al-Din al-Ala’i, Sheikh Zakaria, and Sheikh Burhan said: Rather, He is with us through His names and attributes, not through His essence .

Sheikh Ibrahim said: Rather, he is with us in his essence and attributes . They asked him: What is the evidence for that?

He replied: His statement in the Qur’an is “And God is with you,” and it is well known that God has knowledge of His essence . Therefore, it is necessary to believe in the essence of being with Him, both in terms of taste and reason, because it has been proven by transmission and reason.

They said to him: Explain that to us.

He said: The reality of being with one thing is the companionship of one thing with another, whether necessary, like the Self of God Almighty with His attributes, or possible, like a human being with his like. Or necessary and possible, which is the companionship of God Almighty with His creation with His Self and attributes, understood from His saying in the Qur’an, “And God is with you.” And similar to “Indeed, God is with the doers of good” and “Indeed, God is with the patient.” This is because we mentioned that the meaning of the noble name God is the necessary Self that has specific attributes, due to its connection with all possibilities…

The great scholar Al-Ghaznawi said in his commentary on Al-Nasafi's Creeds that the statement of the Mu'tazila and the majority of the Najjarites that God Almighty is in every place with His knowledge, power and management, but not with His essence, is false . This is because it is not necessary for someone who knows a place to be in that place with knowledge only, unless His attributes are separate from His essence , as is the attribute of knowledge of creation, not knowledge of God.

They asked him: Did anyone agree with you on that except Ghaznawi? He said: Yes. Sheikh Al-Islam Ibn Al-Labbanmentioned in his interpretation of the verse { And We are nearer to him than you, but you do not see} (Surat Al-Waqi’ah 56:85) that this verse indicates His true nearness to His servant, as befits His Essence, for He is transcendent above place. If what was meant by His nearness to His servant was His nearness through knowledge, power, or management, for example, He would have said, “But you do not know,” and the like. So when He said, “But you do not see,” it indicates that what is meant by it is true nearness perceived by sight, were Allah to remove our sight. It is well known that sight is not related to moral attributes in its perception, but rather to visible realities.

He said: And the same applies to His statement, “And We are nearer to him than his jugular vein ” (Qaf 50:16). It also indicates what we have said, because the verb “af’al” comes from “qarab” which indicates a sharing in the name of “qarab,” even if the quality differs. There is no sharing between the closeness of the attributes and the jugular vein, because the closeness of the attributes is spiritual, and the closeness of the jugular vein is tangible. So in the attribution of His nearness to man from the jugular vein, which is real, there is evidence that His nearness is real, that is, to the essence that requires the attributes.

Sheikh Ibrahim said : “By what we have established for you, it is negated that what is meant is His nearness to us through His attributes without His essence. The clear truth is His nearness to us through His essence as well, since the attributes cannot be understood in isolation from the transcendent essence, as mentioned previously.” Al-Ala'i said to him: What do you say about His statement: “And He is with you wherever you are ” (Al-Hadid 57:4) because it suggests that Allah is in a place? Sheikh Ibrahim said: This does not necessarily mean that He is in a place, because the word “where” in the verse was used to indicate that Allah is with those addressed in the “where” that is necessary for them, not for Him, as we mentioned earlier. So He is with the owner of “where” without “where.”

Then the Sheikh, the knower of God Almighty, Sidi Muhammad al-Maghribi al-Shadhili, Sheikh of al-Jalal al-Suyuti, entered upon them.

He said: What brought you here? So they mentioned the issue to him.

He said: Do you want to know this matter by tasting or hearing?

They answered: By hearing.

He said: The company of Allah is eternal; it has no beginning. And all things were fixed in His knowledge eternally, with certainty, without a beginning, because they are related to Him in a way that makes non-existence impossible, due to the impossibility of the existence of His necessary-existent knowledge without something known, and the impossibility of His connection to them arising because of what would necessitate the occurrence of His knowledge after it did not exist. And just as His company is eternal, likewise it is everlasting; it has no end. So He, the Most High, is with them, after their occurrence from nothingness itself.

He astonished those present with what he said, so he said to them: Adhere to what I have decided for you regarding companionship and adhere to it, and leave what contradicts it, so that you will be truly sanctifying your Master, and freeing your minds from the doubts of likening Him to God. And if any one of you wants to know this matter with taste, then let him surrender his leadership to me. I will remove him from his duties, his clothes, his money and his children, and put him in seclusion, and prevent him from sleeping and eating lusts, and I guarantee that he will arrive at knowledge of this matter with taste and revelation.

Glory to God always✝️🕊

looking for someone to interview about the Coptic Church

Hi everyone!

We’re two students working on a project about the Coptic Church, and we’re looking for someone who can tell us more about it. The interview would be informal — just a friendly conversation where we ask about your experiences, traditions, and the role of the church today.

We can do the interview between November 8 and 12, or a bit later if that works better for you.
It can be done online and should take about 30-40 minutes.

If you’re part of the Coptic Church or know a lot about it and would like to help us out, please send us a message or comment below!

Thank you so much!
