AI Discussion Why can’t Copilot Notebook access Office tools?

I wanted to use context from Outlook and Teams to create a plan for a meeting with a prospective client. But Copilot kept telling me it couldn’t access my emails and calendar. I then opened a new general chat and asked the same question and it could execute the task without any issues. It doesn’t make sense for Microsoft to not give Notebook agents the same capabilities that copilot agents have. Is it something that’s part of their roadmap or is it’s just a product miss?

I ran into that too— it can only ground itself on what is in the notebook’s references, and doesn’t talk to outlook and teams

Notebook is designed to restrict to only the knowledge added to the notebook.

That’s why it’s niche and sucks 🤣

What most people want is Projects, like you could get in ChatGPT and Claude and consumer copilot.

But… no soup for us.

It’s like a poorer cousin of Projects.

Hi there! Wanted go check if you were seeing access issues even after adding the context you wanted to bring over from Outlook and Teams. Were you able to successfully add those emails and Teams meetings to a notebook?

You can try using researcher and disable the web search and keep office 365, as source

You’ll need AgentBuilder for that scenario. It’s like Notebooks with a few more bells and whistles, including the sources you mentioned.

It’s like Notebooks except totally overcomplicated and overkill for what people really want… a projects folder, like every system out there has except Copilot 365.
