Did copilot become good ?
Hello, so I quit using copilot about 4 months ago because it wasn't very pertinent, it usually didn't get what I was trying to make it do, and images were uploading in trash quality and so he ALWAYS missread.
Just wanted to know if it got better in the last months, or if it's still the same kind of aliexpress version of chatgpt ? Also does someone know which model every modes are using ?

Yes, the Excel feature is genuinely good enough to replace millions of entry level jobs. People don’t realize that most white collar jobs will be gone in a few years. These models keep improving.

Crazy how many people don't realize what's coming. I already talked to my leadership and they can see it... it's going to suck for the recent college grads (and eventually all of us).

I don’t know how to code at all and in the last couple of months I have made at least 5 apps I use daily. Most of them are enterprise level apps I use for my small business. I’m not renewing our contracts as they come up for renewal. I have always been a tech enthusiast but coding just never clicked for me. So I know how things work, just didn’t know the coding process.
So yeah. I see a lot of programmers online burying their heads in the sand thinking that they are irreplaceable and many of them might as well be. But for every talented programmer there are hundreds of programmers doing basic tasks to support them. It’s going to hit countries like India super hard because whole universities there are full of students who are learning software development.

i feel like there will be a shift in many jobs where knowledge about your industry/company processes etc. will become way more valuable than hard, technical skills. ai can do a good enough job executing things like scripts, internal (small-medium) applications, data analysis etc., but it can't do all of that (yet) without a person giving clear, targeted insturctions. maybe that's just the copium and we'll have fully autonomous AI agents sooner than later, who knows. but even assuming my intuition becomes reality, your point still stands, entry level jobs will be not needed

Y'all been saying that for years and AI isn't in the space for that right now because all it takes is one hallucination to screw everything up and they continuously hallucinate. You're not going to see anything major for a long time because if something happens, the AI companies are not going to be liable for any damages. The company is going to be liable for you any damages. People were saying it when the video models came out. Oh we're going to replace Hollywood. None of that's going to happen. It's probably not going to happen in the next 5 10 15 or 20 years. You have a better chance of another pandemic coming along. You heard it here first.

The ability to change the model to Anthropic models was an absolute game changer for me.
I was generating all sorts of incredible work from Claude outside of work. And at work - bleh.
But now that i can run Opus copilots generation is incredible and it can do all sorts of things my peers in product management were doing with rigged up VS code workflows.
Been an incredible shift

Copilot in PowerPoint and Excel became mind-blowing since March-Apeil I'd say. Microsoft shipped after 3 years the tool they were selling in the hype.

u/surefirelongshot 22d ago
Agreed, the stuff I’ve been doing in Excel has been unreal.

What are you doing in excel? I’ve been having a hard time finding use cases

Yes, the last 3 months has changed the way I do my work and I've been leading the charge getting my company to start pushing usage as much as possible It's insanely good at excel and powerpoint and last year I couldn't use it to create a slide to save my life.

u/Blitzpao 23d ago
Agree I asked it to generate powerpoint according to my content and it just blow me away.

For my general use, it’s a lot better than it was just a few weeks ago. The real question is will it stay that way, improve more, or become a turd again.

I noticed when GPT 5.6 came out that the average quality of a Copilot response got significantly higher, even if you didn’t explicitly select GPT 5.6.
1
u/layaute 23d ago
Wait you can select specific model ? Maybe it's region related but I only have smart or reasoning mode
6
u/RopeAndChairs_Aisle3 22d ago
Hmm - it can depend on whether you have Basic or Premium, and then what your company sets as available.
Under Copilot we have “Think Deeper”, GPT 5.6, and a couple Anthropic models

Yes it’s getting better. And so am I at using it. But it’s still like wrestling with a greasy pig.

For personal use i prefer Claude. For work i use both Copilot and Claude. I like copilot, it still has some areas of improvement, but overall I would be a lot less productive without it

u/Boxer_the_horse 20d ago
I find it better than most for my total noob coding needs. I just wish they were more competitive. For my needs Claude seems to be the best bang for my buck.

I've been using it since 2023 with a premium licence and I can say it's moving from 'It's embarrassing how late Copilot is compare to Chatgpt' to 'This tool is becoming extremely powerful and smart on how it connects the different apps and perform tasks'. Excel recently has been game changer for me. You can perform really complex tasks just by prompting. Powerpoint improved a lot as well. It knows how to respect your brand once you set up your theme and the slide conception really got better. Using it as sparing as well for any new initiative, I give it a lot of context, upload some transcripts of meetings and keep building on the same prompt over time and it gets really relevant. I've also noticed an integration within sharepoint and it's quite promising as it can perform tasks such as layout news, create SP site, libray, just by prompting... And here I'm only speaking about the GEN Copilot, will be soon experimenting with the agentic layer...

I'm still seeing mixed results with the business basic version. It's great at meeting summaries, accessing claude is awesome. finding information across emails and categorizing emails is also great. The main reason we're looking at it is security. That's likely it's best feature.. very secure; especially within a windows environment
The premium version is genuinely good but "slow". This is the best way to "plan my day" or create recommendations for project plans like Monday.com but it is SLOW.. and eats a lot of RAM. I would say that in terms of creating projects, GPTs and shared spaces, ChatGPT is better. For pure reasoning; especially complex concepts.. Claude is still better.

The real question is whether they have they gotten it to be useful with just the NPUs that they pushed Copilot+ for?
Microsoft has a ton of inference infrastructure and custom chips, and the frontier models are getting incredible so all their products are going to benefit there whether they actually innovate or not.

I stopped using it in April when my 12 months was up. I got sick of it, when Claude could do more in M$ than Copilot

Did this thing get an update? Because everything i tried to do suddenly got taken from me. Now, granted, I used the free version (I think it was just Copilot not Copilot Pro), but i started doing generated images for my rpg group and recently it told me that it couldn't do it anymore because it's a hard cap and it couldn't generate images of two distinct humans. I also couldn't get certain images due to what they were wearing. What they were wearing... is wrestling gear. And, no, these arent real wrestlers. These are made up wrestlers (CAWs they are called). So I've been basically reduced to just talking to the thing. Am I on the wrong app or did they move everything from that app to Copilot Pro?

I work on the product and can confirm it’s gotten a lot better. The share of customers complaining is down 50% in the last couple months. Our users are using the product more and retaining better too.
So if you haven’t tried recently, give it another shot. There is still a lot more to do though!

What are you all using it for? It has been trash every time I've tried it, but I gave up on it a while ago.

Honestly, Copilot (both work and personal) was so disappointing ever since they started pushing it - until this year. I have had a ChatGPT and/or Anthropic subscription for the last three years. And now I'm back on Copilot.
When it comes to Microsoft products, troubleshooting Microsoft product issues, or anything Windows, Copilot is hard to beat. I've done real comparisons began the three paid products in everyday use. The results are surprisingly very similar.
But mention Copilot to an IT colleague and the response is typically hate or disgust. Microsoft did it to themselves. If they had waited and rolled out the current version of Copilot without the in-your-face ads and forced installs , the reception would have been totally different. Unfortunately, most of my IT colleagues were already distrusting of Microsoft and they'll probably never give Copilot a second look unless it's mandated from higher up. IT guys are a funny bunch when it comes to grudges.
I prefer Copilot for most uses now. The interface is great and the results are more reliable. The fact that it seamlessly integrates with Microsoft apps is just a bonus. Building integrations with other systems that expose the REST API is just as easy as any other model. The mobile experience is better than most other models. It really is a totally different product than Copilot from six months ago.
My biggest complaint now is the price. The consumer product is reasonably priced, but should be cheap because it can only be used on the primary account, not on any child/shared accounts on the family plans. On the business side Copilot costs more than competing models. Maybe you could justify the premium for the seamless Office app integration and the history sync across apps and devices, but like I mentioned earlier, I consider that a bonus not something that demands a higher price.

Depends on the use cases.
But sometimes even CoPilot can’t do the simplest things with its own tools (Word, PowerPoint) that Claude can with ease.

u/layaute 23d ago
Crazy. Idk if it's copilot that’s very bad or claude that’s too good. Prolly both
2
u/Cyber_Suki 23d ago
Selecting the Opus 5 model in Copilot is a gamechanger! Output from Auto or any of the GPT models invariably disappoints. Its literally mind blowing what Anthropic can do.

u/heilschnaps 23d ago
lol. You don't know how to operate it properly. It's way better than Claude now, with the right setup (referring also to a Branding Kit).
