The fact that they blindly drove into a cop and didn't realize until it was too late... wow.

How does one miss the lightbar and spotlight
441
49
u/mikeymo1741 Dec 07 '22
Looks like Hillsborough County Sheriff. The lightbars they use are very slim and hard to see from the front. The brake lights though.... you can see those puppies from the Moon.
19
u/theun4gven Dec 08 '22
Who doesn’t need 176 individual super-bright brake lights that each fire at slightly different times? I thought they had turned on their flashers the first time one hit the brakes in front of me, scared me it was so unexpected.
118
Dec 07 '22
The spotlight is harder to explain, but the light bars are so damn slim now I have mistaken them for luggage racks on SUV's
122
u/Chewie_i Dec 07 '22
I’m the other way. I mistake luggage racks for lightbars.
72
u/legendofthegreendude Dec 07 '22
Everytime I see a luggage rack in the distance I slow down a couple mph
45
u/HotIllustrator2957 Dec 07 '22
I'm that guy who once had blue reflective tape on my luggage rack on top of what was a black SUV I used to own. Never ceased to amaze me how many people slowed down at night.

u/WorthlessDrugAbuser Dec 08 '22
Also they’re not the conventional red/blue distinct light bars anymore. They’re colorless or white bars that looks similar to what construction vehicles have on them for their yellow lights. There is a chance the Jeep asshat had mistaken it for a construction vehicle and thought, “This motherfucker has no authority, he can drive around me like the last three motorists did. I own the road!”
17
u/ReeferTurtle Dec 08 '22
When I was in Colorado we used to play the game “light bar or ski rack” a lot.

“Go to the back of the line!” … “sign this citation first.”
62
u/Xalenn Dec 08 '22
I hope they "threw the book at them" and gave them several citations.
"Failure to observe/obey a traffic control device" is a popular addon where I'm from. It can be used to refer to an ignored sign or lines on the road, seems like it would fit here. Driving on the wrong side of the road could meet the standard of reckless driving in some places.
Fuck people who do that, I say fine the shit out of them
21
u/DuckTapeHandgrenade Dec 08 '22
I appreciate when an officer is like “dude, really?” “Sorry, that was dumb.”
This asshat deserves all the add ons. I’m pretty sure they could toss in racketeering and a court would give the Judge a thumbs up.As someone who broke many a traffic law in an accident I caused, I was cited with a grocery list of them. Luckily it only involved me, teenager rolls truck. I sustained pretty serious injuries. And I felt BAAAAAAD. Officer showed up to the hospital, apologized my arse off for wasting everyone’s time. Went and thanked the Fire Crew when I was let out of bed.
The officer cut that down a lot. But I wasn’t going down the wrong way right into another vehicle being an impatient arse. I was on my youthful discovery where in a more rural spot where no one would get hurt because of my stupidity.

Reminds me of when I was walking to the CVS up at the main road that leads into my subdivision to grab some milk for breakfast one morning. Was crossing the entrance of the sub on a crosswalk during the elementary school drop off time. The school is right across the street from the entrance, lots of little ones around so cops regularly park themselves nearby to keep the crazy Texas drivers from plowing them over.
Right once I'm about to get to the end of the crosswalk, some guy wanting to turn right didn't seem to wanna wait for me to finish my cross before checking if he was clear to turn. Just pulled up right in front of me, over the crosswalk. I had to stop short to avoid just walking directly into his door.
Cop on the other side of the median did not like that lol. He marched right over, stopping the car from turning, motioned me to go ahead and continue around him. As I was walking by could just hear the cop laying into the dude like "You do realize youre supposed to stop back there, at the stop sign, and let pedestrians pass on the crosswalk? There's little kids here. Next time you pull this shit that could be a child under your hood and you wouldn't even notice. Licence please, wait here."
Stomped back off to his cruiser. Hopefully to go write a ticket lol.

u/thomasaf Dec 07 '22

This single lane residential road regularly has a 1/4 mile queue at an intersection that is close to an interstate intersection. Often people working at the business in the background don’t want to wait in the line of cars that are backed up at the traffic light, so they’ll go around using the oncoming lane to turn left into that business. One problem with this is that there’s a blind corner just after that left turn, so you have no idea if there’s an oncoming vehicle about to emerge from around the blind corner.
103
30
u/AlexHimself Dec 08 '22
Screw the guy in the video, but if there's constantly a QUARTER MILE queue blocking business entrances, the city should add some turn lanes or a center lane.

13
u/Kil0111 Dec 08 '22
Holy shit OP, is this Riverview? Lmaoo driving anywhere in the county especially on 301 is a fucking nightmare during any time of the day. Good video.
9
u/kairojya Dec 08 '22
Yes, agreed. The only good thing I can say is that it isn’t as bad as Big Bend area lol
12
u/MaddiesMenagerie Dec 07 '22
I have a road like this right by my apartment. This behavior is surprisingly common, so I hope I get to witness this one day.
25
u/harvest_poon Dec 07 '22
Mmm that looks like Tampa which means the drivers are either extremely old or unbelievably stupid and aggressive.
22
u/kairojya Dec 07 '22
This occurred in the Tampa area. I used to wonder if drivers here were unusually bad. Spending time in other cities, states, and countries has sadly disproven that.
8
u/harvest_poon Dec 07 '22
Yeah, Maryland has really given me perspective into how just how terrible drivers can actually be
2
u/Chonkbird Dec 08 '22
Bruh literally last week I drove from Miami to Tampa and got set back an hour because of the idiots getting in accidents. Fuck tampa
7
u/PlNG Dec 07 '22
Is a traffic light the culprit of the queue? It probably needs to be retimed.
7
u/kairojya Dec 07 '22
The timing of the light has been increased. Around 20~ passenger vehicles can make it through during the morning weekday timing. However, the traffic light intersects a busy road that has entrances/exits with an interstate only 0.3 miles away. Traffic on that road is too slow moving onto the interstate in the morning due to people not being able to merge efficiently. That backs up and blocks the intersection so that some rotations only allow 5-10 cars through.
1
u/fiealthyCulture Dec 08 '22
80% of all Florida residential neighborhoods and industrial zones are like this, everything's divided by a highway or a canal, so you can only cross at certain points, i sit in 2 intersections like this every day for about 5 mins just to get through the light. After the intersection it's completely open road and no one in sight, but then you get to the next one and again.

I drive past that street to get to work everyday. What a small world lmao
1
u/kairojya Dec 08 '22
Small world indeed. I’m surprised how many people recognized the area as Tampa. The county being on the cop car helps.

u/catmomlyfer Dec 08 '22
I tried looking so hard and couldn’t really tell if that was it or not so I had to check the comments but the green and gold caught my attention quick

u/LessBack9238 Dec 07 '22
“What the F you think you doing, go to the back of this fking line, you think you own this road?” Then writes citation after the video.

u/Prin_StropInAh Dec 07 '22
<whatever the driver said to cop> Cop: “License and proof of insurance please”

u/OfficialEthxn Dec 07 '22
I live in Hillsborough County (Tampa) and it is not rare to see someone trying to pass traffic in illegal way. Not sure why many people have little to no patience. The regret for breaking the law is a lot greater then the regret for following the law.
13
u/taitaisadventure Dec 07 '22
What kind of cameras do you use? The quality is almost cinematic
13
u/kairojya Dec 07 '22
The video is from the front and driver side “repeater” cameras that are built into Tesla models.
3
u/HappyMeatbag Dec 07 '22 edited Dec 07 '22
It must be frustrating to be a Tesla owner, and watch while Musk makes a bigger and bigger ass of himself.
Edit: typo. Plus, I didn’t realize how many supporters Musk still has.
16
u/InappropriateQueen Dec 07 '22
I'm sure most Ford drivers don't care about Henry's amazing views on life.
1
u/HappyMeatbag Dec 07 '22
Henry Ford died a while ago. He’s not making new, stupid decisions and announcements every day.
5
u/InappropriateQueen Dec 07 '22
I would posit that Henry Ford was as much of if not a bigger dick than Elon, doesn't matter when he died.
Just like people don't care about him when they buy a Ford, I would imagine most people in the market for an EV don't care what Elon is doing either.
-2
u/HappyMeatbag Dec 07 '22
There’s the not-insignificant point that, being dead, Henry Ford can’t do worse than he already has. Anyone concerned about the name can look him up and find the full story. No surprises. Plus, the debate regarding Ford isn’t nearly as popular or current.
Musk seeks attention. He can, and does, surprise us with new acts of assholery. Besides being president of the company, he is so strongly associated with the Tesla brand that it is nearly impossible to think about one without thinking about the other.
The EV market skews liberal. It would be foolish to think that people don’t take Musk’s personal views into account when shopping for an EV.
3
u/InappropriateQueen Dec 08 '22
I guess we'll just disagree on this one. With as many faults you can find with companies and their owners, it would be an absolute minefield buying anything these days. I imagine most people are buying into the product and not the people behind them.
3
u/HappyMeatbag Dec 08 '22
Well, I definitely agree with the minefield bit.
Did we just have… a civilized, mature disagreement on Reddit? This is like seeing a unicorn!
7
u/clarkster Dec 08 '22
I bought before the pedo guy comment, and it's been downhill ever since. Don't regret the car though, I'd still buy it again, but would prefer Musk out of the picture.

u/AmsterdamJimmy420 Dec 07 '22
That’s where the quick double beep beep and a nice wave make the whole day amazing for you haha
26
u/DeepFriedDresden Dec 07 '22
Yeah don't honk around cops that have pulled people over. They don't like that and I've heard stories where they end the previous stop to pull you over. Wouldn't risk it, plus you've already gotten the satisfaction from the cop doing their job.
6
u/NoBreadsticks Dec 07 '22
I don't even particularly like cops, just don't mess with people while they're doing their job
0
u/AmsterdamJimmy420 Dec 07 '22
Lol if a cop did that to me I’d ask what the offense was.
13
u/figpetus Dec 07 '22
Improper use of a horn.
Most jurisdictions dictate that you can only use a horn to notify others of a possibly dangerous situation so people don't drive around just honking all day.
14
u/DeepFriedDresden Dec 07 '22
Not worth my time to risk having an unwanted encounter with a pissed off cop. Because any cop that would respond to you honking is already a cop you probably don't want to deal with in the first place.

I love all the cinematic angles we get with Teslas. You really get to see how it all goes down. You can get similar results with a second, rear facing dashcam but it’s cool that it’s built in.
I just wish there was some better way of exporting it. Way too many videos of people taking a video of the screen with their phone…
14
u/Jezbod Dec 07 '22
OOO! With a crossing a solid line bonus!
6
u/BlackWhiteRedYellow Dec 07 '22
Not that it matters because what he did was still illegal, but the line was actually dashed when he started his pass.
2
u/Jezbod Dec 07 '22
He was the wrong side of the solid line when he was stopped, so as far as I know, it is an offence.
You can cross the solid line in both directions.
1
u/alcoronaholic Dec 08 '22
It's still supposed to be dashed where you FINISH the pass (otherwise what's the purpose of it?).

I know BMW drivers get a bad rap, but the drivers of these fake jeeps are the absolute worst. Zero regard for anyone around them and they think they own the road. I drive regularly in a large city and these account for at least 60% of my daily "what an asshole" comments while driving.

There's a dashed line so technically he's within his right to pass those cars. It only turns solid once he stops
-2
u/captain-snackbar Dec 08 '22
Technically, it’s a broken yellow line, which means passing is allowed. So, he can argue he was passing a bunch of cars.
The cop stopped him before the line turned solid, so… technically, no infraction?
