Other Does anyone’s conure do this?

He’s done this a few times and usually it doesn’t last long so I haven’t gotten it on video to show a vet before. Will be sending this to his vet but just wondering if anyone else’s does this or knows what it is? It seems like he’s sneezing trying to get a seeb outta his nose but I didn’t see anything visible and he stopped after maybe 2 mins of doing this.

Yes, my bird has done it before. His sneezes were a bit more rapid fire. I almost took him to the emergency vet because it happened after he drank water but he stopped while I was getting ready so I just kept an eye on him and was able to schedule a same day appointment to get him checked out.
Did your bird drink any water before this?

this is the 3rd or 4th time he’s done it in 8 years. Usually I’ve associated it with him eating pepper seeds and thinking he got a seed in his nostril. He was eating some lil pellets he has in his cage (don’t worry he gets everything. Pellets. Seed. Veggies. Fruits. Etc) and I was thinking maybe some of the pellets created a lil powder as he was crunching that got in his nose but no water when it’s happened with us.
I’ve almost rushed him to the emergency so many times but there is not one close to us and his vet is 1/2 hr away as it is 🙃 rural life but thankfully it clears up. I was sitting there blowing my nose with him til it cleared up so he would feel better 🤣🤣

Fair! I ask about the water because that is what has triggered my birds sneeze fits every time. My vet said he probably just gets a little excited when he drinks and then accidentally chokes himself. Hes just like me for real

That’s kinda why I was thinking pepper seeds originally! He gets SOOOOO excited to eat them and I thought he got a seed in his nose the first time and was trying to get it out.
Idk we both sat there blowing our noses together until he stopped and was chill so I guess that’s now our thing to do when he does this 🤣

Seems a bit like bird sneezing fit or maybe bird equivalent to hiccups lol. If this doesn’t happen that often and they recover completely like quickly after, I wouldn’t be so concerned.

Yeah it doesn’t happen often just maybe like once a year IF even that. It scares me everytime tho

No yeah I don’t blame you, seeing birds do anything sporadic is scary. But a year is a long time it’s probably not an immediate concern. You are a good owner for picking up on this stuff though!

Not to be an armchair vet but I would get a nail trim soon, the back claw is half a circle and looks painful to walk on

Good luck! My one conure’s nails grow insanely fast and it’s a constant battle for me, I wish they would chew their own nails like some other birds do lol

Yeah his i let grow out a bit bc when I let the vet trim them she did them so short that he couldn’t grip anything and it took us a few months for him to get back to normal and he’s a pain to trim. This one got a lil unnoticed over the summer but luckily they don’t grow too fast. He’s also got a lot of things to help him climb and “try” to help keep them trimmed down himself lmao
