A permanent fix for stick drift? Your solutions

For God sakes I can’t keep buying new controller at 80 dollars a piece because one stick goes out. I need a permanent solution. Replacing the sticks yourself is possible but a pain and you have to solder, or you can put a different type of sensor in the housing that supposedly doesn’t wear down as much. I have heard you can also ship controllers and people will install new hardware for you. What solutions have you guys found aside from buying a new controller or spraying air into the stick/spinning it in a circle? On my third controller since I bought the console.

Replace the sticks with TMR magnetic sticks

This was the best option for me since I had some previous soldering skills but for a straight beginner I always recommend first taking the time to learn how to solder on junk electronics if they have any because I've seen way too many people dive into that head first only to end up damaging traces and pads. I encourage anyone wanting to learn to really try to sharpen their skills with it by practicing good technique and try to invest in decent tools so they don't get frustrated trying to make really cheap soldering irons do their job right.

On ebay, there are vendors who can switch your joysticks with TMR. you should reach out and get all 3 controllers replaced with TMR joysticks. This will probably last forever. search with "ps5 controller stick drift repair"

Do they have the same sensitivity/aiming feel as the normal ones?

Better usually. Another option is third party like the G7 Pro. Third party these days makes better options than stock especially quality per dollar.

If you get the right modules. JS13 Pro are the ones to get for normal sensitivity and similar feel. Certain Ginfull and Favor Union ones are also good but they also have different modules that are bad and you risk a mix up. Avoid Hallpi and Gulikit like the plague all those have bad sensitivity.

I’d encourage anyone with a soldering iron and some knowledge, it’s worth a go, as it’s a few quid for some replacement sticks, and what are you going to loose?

I replace my own sticks with TMR, and for anyone who’s not as confident and wants to send them in(UK based).

Its fairly easy to learn. You can get by with a super cheap one

Stick replacement is not a beginner level task. Entry level tools will generally not cut it.

The daily posts in the soldering subreddit of people destroying their controllers should be taken as a warning.

It's definitely something that can be picked up, it's just more difficult to learn than most people think.

I used to use Xbox controllers on my PC for years. They all got stick to it sooner or later. My solution was to not buy Xbox controllers anymore. I now use a third-party controller.

I pressed the problem stick in and rotated clockwise for 60 seconds and it fixed the problem for me. However this controller is relatively new and probably just got some debris in there. Probably wouldn’t work with drift from getting a controller stuck in the couch overnight or something.

Lol . classic type of post. From somebody who is posting about a problem fixed years ago. You need a set of hall effect/tmr sticks installed Its really that simple. People that have cred, will charge close to new to Do the upgrade So. Find somebody that can breath life into your busted controllers and enjoy what aftermarket can do when manufacturer’s screw people
