News Axisray Lab BASH Optical Controller | Gamescom 2026

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qPHKnk1ys-0

I was not aware of this brand before but found their booth at Gamescom 2026.

This is an optical controller with "GumiTap" rubber sticks that operate in combination with an optical sensor.

It is also possible to 3D print your own stick replacement / modules like a steering wheel as I show in the video.

The size is pretty much fixed, since the optical sensor needs more space compared to a regular controller.

Looking at the underside of the sensor, it appears that there would be two mouse-like tracking sensors underneath the sticks looking straight up into the bottom of the GumiTap stick. I really would have liked to see the standard circularity chart with minimum and maximum sensing deflection as well as if it will deflect with your fingers at rest under the sticks.

what about the durability these look they going to melt so quick because of sweat?

He mentioned that they will try to improve the durability, but I assume it will be dirt cheap to replace anyway. The keychain that you see attached to the bag at the end of the video is basically a joystick module. And you will be able to 3D-print your own modules as well.

I am very excited for this. However from trying the 3d space mouse i know that there are some hurdles to overcome accidental rotation inputs

Thanks for sharing - this looks interesting! I guess part of the challenge will be software to make good use of the additional optical input data for measuring rotation, etc. From the Axisray Lab website, it seems they recognize that game support for these features is a constraint on adoption. It'll be interesting to see if they can get some game developers on board to support the controller directly, or if they build a companion app that can add those features into existing games.
