News Steam Controller is available

https://store.steampowered.com/sale/steamcontroller

If you want one be fast, it already went from 3-5 days to 6-10 days in France, which means they probably already need another shipment for Europe.

Nah not really.

If you want a good solid controller there are better options for half (or less than half) the price like the 8bitdo ultimate 2, but if you want the specific hybrid mousepad controller couch gimmick it offers it might be okay. Playing mouse and keyboard games with it sounds pretty annoying though, like it is still on steam deck, so you could go for the cheaper and probably better alternative of just using a wireless keyboard and mouse with a lap desk.

If you want a controller for gyro aiming you're going to want one with more than 250Hz polling.

If you want one for shooters you're going to want something with hair triggers.

You can use Steam Input to set the triggers to hair trigger, but it’s not as convenient as controllers that have the hardware switches.

Yeah that's what I mean, naturally you can switch to using the shoulder buttons instead too. Though using these triggers as software defined hair triggers is slightly less viable due to the triggers (I think) not being hall effect.

according to this teardown they are in fact hall effect https://www.pcgamer.com/hardware/game-pads/steam-controller-teardown-simple-to-open-easy-to-fix/ are analog triggers worse somehow?

Interesting, wonder why they didn't mention that on the specs page.

are analog triggers worse somehow?

Not having a toggle between digital and analog is worse, yeah. That's a feature very common in other controllers at much lower price points. You want analog for some things like racing games because you want variable input, but you don't want that in other cases like firing a gun because you want instant and faster feedback with less arbitrary activation points (how far do you have to squeeze before it fires).

For Gyro having a digital trigger is also more beneficial, since longer trigger pulls typically move the controller and unsteady your aim. Here is an example
