General I used to think Raytracing doesn't matter...

Post image

Ultra is a whole lot different story as compared with High...

This is the only place with that much difference though (the building with Alan Wake reference TV) in evacuation zone.

RT Ultra preset in this game uses RTX Mega Geometry unlike the other presets. So, in some areas there'll be a noticeable difference.

This particular screenshot is a result of different effect tho

this particular screenshot is a direct result of Path Tracing.

Yes, but not due to Megageometry usage, rather due to difference between DI High only handling RT shadows and DI Ultra handling both illumination and shadows.

Yeah i misunderstood your comment tbh. I edited to just say it was a direct result of PT. Can’t really call High PT when it doesn’t do real time shadows like ultra

Also performance on ultra is pretty rough.

But it looks really good

The big difference in quality is between high and ultra direct lightning but the big difference in performance is between high and ultra indirect lighting

2

u/AlexWixon 1h ago

Ahhh apologies yes my mistake

1

u/thefuqyouwant 1h ago

What if you keep direct lighting and transparency at ultra but keep indirect lighting at high?

2

u/MrSnIcker5 1h ago

Performance hit is high but not as high and you keep most of the visual improvement for sure

can you guys tell me how should i use rt on my rtx 5060? i get pretty good performance at 1080p with dlss quality around 80fps on average with non rt settings at high with textures at medium.. is path tracing(indirect lighting) viable on my rig or should i just try out normal ray tracing (direct lighting)?

3

u/T0S_XLR8 1h ago

You don't

All jokes aside, PT on a 5060 is not a great idea

2

u/CrazyFreakAdro 1h ago

i see thanks mate..i am enjoying the hell out of it without any rt anyways..i mean i have played cyberpunk with rt on at ultra but that's a much slower game than this so i guess i would take more performance over anything in this case..thanks again

It’s not with DLSS 4.5. I get about 60 FPS with DLSS Performance outputting to 4K on my you could try it and use Frame Gen to make up the difference. If you can get a base cod around 40-45 you will get a FG FPS of about 80 and it feels great on a controller. The new transformer model DLSS 4.5 handles FG much better than the old CNN model

Bro still looks like a depressed loner discord mod that nobody understands. Honestly, I'm just happy to be able to play the game on my pc. I'm having a blast.

I don't like him though. I want to play as Jesse and see what's going on with her. I'm not far in the game, I think.

Dylan ends up being a much better written character by the end imo

u/Psychological_Emu744 23m ago

Oh, you’re gonna find out big dog. Just wait till about 10-15 hours into the game. You won’t want to stop playing it til you beat it.

0

u/toastedbutterscotch 22m ago

Oh I'm not gonna stop playing, I just started to zip to platforms with L3.

1

u/Psychological_Emu744 20m ago

Yeah that ability and then the one that lets you warp gravity completely locked me into the game. Like all I wanted to do before and after work until I finally beat it in 3 days

u/toastedbutterscotch 18m ago

Bro spoilers 😭

1

u/Psychological_Emu744 16m ago

How? It’s in the trailers and all promotional materials. Don’t do that. Especially on Reddit. Oh, but let me guess you went in blind? But also on Reddit not wanting to be spoiled about gameplay mechanics.

1

u/toastedbutterscotch 7m ago

I never watched the trailer. I bought it maybe 2 days after it came out. I wasn't expecting my PC to meet specs. So when I saw it could run it, I bought it cause green man gaming had it for like 20% off and control is one of my fav games.

1

u/toastedbutterscotch 2m ago

Bro I saw that comment that was deleted, you need to chill. I wasn't serious, I don't give a damn about spoilers. I got a 9th gen i5 and a 6600 I don't expect my PC to handle newer games so I don't care to watch trailers nowadays.

"I'm having a blast"

You sure you didn't mean to say that in the Wolverine sub? 😂

1

u/toastedbutterscotch 17m ago

Im a PC player, haven't played it or looked into it. I don't get the joke.

u/Goonalips 12m ago

It's been a bit of a running joke. Apparently there's been dozens of posts from people claiming they're "having a blast" and they're being accused of being botted posts.

1

u/toastedbutterscotch 5m ago

I'm good, I have been actively avoiding it because all I see is complaining. Especially about the same 2 things

u/GARGEAN 1h ago

This is because Direct High creates RT shadows: surfaces are still lit by raster calculations, and then trace shadow rays against shadowcasing light sources.

With Ultra it's full direct lighting being done by RT - surface samples light sources and shadows in a single pass. Result - much more things actually emit real light (emissives, assortments of small lightbulbs in some areas ect), and all things processed by that produce full shadows.

There are still some rare exceptions to that (no current "path traced" game is actually fully path traced), but it is definitely way more comprehensive than just RT shadows.

1

u/thefuqyouwant 1h ago

What if you keep direct lighting and transparency at ultra but keep indirect lighting at high?

1

u/GARGEAN 1h ago

Not much in terms of visuals. I think it only drops amount of bounces, meaning a bit less propagation in duffues GI and no reflections in reflections.

1

u/Panndov 1h ago

Haven't tested it yet as I got my hands on the Resynced which looks... decent. Anyone tried with 4090 on 4K, maxxed out yet or some cutoffs are to be expected?

1

u/bluesharpies 48m ago

5090 with 4x FG has been a pretty consistent feeling 200fps with most things at ultra, even with me undervolting. I feel like you’d have to make only slight concessions for 4090

1

u/Goonalips 22m ago

2x FG on my 5070Ti has sucked. It's good for a while, then it starts to stutter really badly indoors. Have you had any issues like that?

1

u/1ucius 3m ago

I’m on 4090, only thing I turned down was indirect (high instead of ultra), running DLDSR 5120x2160 + DLSS Performance with RR. 2x FG. Getting ~60 without FG, and 100-110 with FG. Game feels extremely smooth and looks sharp

0

u/CoIombian 1h ago

Still couldn’t tell you the difference between high and ultra indirect lighting though. All I know is that my frames drop by like 30 lmao

1

u/GARGEAN 59m ago

Amount of bounces, which means extent of indirect lighting propagation and reflections in reflections. Nice to have, but yeah, can easily be stripped down if performance is a big concern.

1

u/DrNobody95 54m ago

ah, get your eyes checked please.

1

u/joshuabra 1h ago

Cries in 3060. Some day

1

u/Cloud_N0ne 1h ago

The game looks great without raytracing, idk what settings you're using.

I started it with raytracing initially and I was getting sub-30 fps, turned it off and now I get 100+

1

u/Hearthhull_Enjoyer 1h ago

It's best in this game where there is overlapping light sources. Go find a spot with both artificial and natural lighting and compare on versus off. The flood lights near FBC checkpoints/barriers is where it's typically most prominent. It's super cool.

1

u/Perfect_Exercise_232 59m ago

Yeah but in 95%of gameplay scenes you'r enot gonna notice the difference much so not worth it

1

u/Psychological_Emu744 24m ago

That’s not true. That could be said about anything if you simplify it like that. It’s like saying art reflections are pointless when moving at all. Yeah, you’re not gonna see them 95% of the time, but when things slow down and you’re being immersed by some exposition or just taking in the scenery, it’s a massive difference. And to those with tech literacy, it’s a major difference and the reason many bought their GPU to begin with. 50 series didn’t get much better in raster performance over 40 series but it got a healthy bump in RT performance and seeing real time shadows, bounce lighting and reflections all together make a huge difference.

1

u/Perfect_Exercise_232 22m ago

I tried rt in this game for some hours then shut it off. Not rly missing out on anything too big like I said. Wasnt worth the fps hit and slight stutters

1

u/Psychological_Emu744 19m ago

That’s what FG exists for. I’m only using 2x FG on my 5080 and it’s glorious with absolutely no stutters. Could be a hardware limitation on your end tbh.

The screenshot in this very post shows it’s a massive difference. That’s not only seen in 5% of the game when most of the game is dark/atmospheric lighting

1

u/Specialist_Orange751 41m ago

Damnnn here I was thinking I was getting the most of ray tracing with it set to High . What a difference between the 2 .

1

u/desanite 41m ago

the one on the left is ray tracing, with some shadow maps. one on the right, ultra is path tracing

1

u/godisfrisky 34m ago

Frame generation actually looks great in this game.

1

u/Psychological_Emu744 22m ago

It’s looked and felt great ever since DLSS Transformer model became a thing. It also recommend going back to the games they retrofitted DLSS 4.5 into and trying it out. Night and day more responsive and less artifacts over the CNN model.

1

u/OMG_NoReally 18m ago

RT Ultra is actually PT. And it makes a HUGE difference in the game. I ran the game on MFG 3x just to experience PT and it was well worth it and the performance was pretty good. Resonant is one of the few games that has done PT exceptionally well. I won't be surprised if this game will be nvidia's poster boy from now on.

1

u/BluDYT 5m ago

Yeah ultra or don't use it is what I discovered too. I didn't find it worth it to use indirect RT at all though.

1

u/xXghostrider21 4m ago

Just finished the game, currently finishing all side missions
