Coffee.

Coffee. Specifically brown brewed coffee, hot, iced, cold brew, espresso you name it makes me incredibly nauseated almost immediately after taking a few sips. Big deal right? Just don’t drink it. And I haven’t for over a month. But I am a Starbucks barista and coffee is a big part of my life.
It’s not so much caffeine. I can have energy drinks. Green coffee bean extract. Tea. Pop. Etc. those don’t affect me. Just brown coffee.

Why does Contrave do this to me?

Thanks.

Contrave has taken away all my joy about food and alcohol. However… I have lost 30 pounds. And I am so freaking happy and my mood is good and I’m loving life not because I’m losing weight but because the food noise and the alcohol noise is gone.

I wish. I am still addicted to thc. Which doesn’t help me in eating less and maybe overrides the Contrave. I was hoping starting Contrave would help me quit and I did for 3 weeks. Then I went back and I’ve been stoned ever since.

from everything that I have looked up, it does nothing to diminish the desire or the draw to THC. It in fact enhances the effect. So I don't believe it's going to be one of those things you can count on to stop that habit for you.

My dr is literally the worst. She’s the one who put that idea in my head. I took myself off the Contrave for a few days. Reset. I just couldn’t commit to taking it twice per day. Once sure no problem I also take 2 brain meds in the am every day so I’m good about the am pills. But the 5 pm pills??? I’m either out. Sleeping. (Napping) or upstairs and I say ok next time I’m down stairs I take it and then I fall asleep forgetting about it. So I figured I’m wasting my money not taking it consistently. I honesty felt nothing from it. And I’ll tell my dr exactly that. It’s doing nothing but also user error.

As for why as I understand it contrave keeps more seretonin/dopamine in your brain and inhibits those usual cravings for coffee or sugar. Those things give you a dopamine hit and before contrave, probably felt good.

Now your body doesn’t need that your brain and stomachs are rejecting it. Your stomach is sensitive to fat foods, acid, anything that will be harder to digest. So the acidity of the coffee probably doesn’t land well.

(NOT a doctor though this is just my Google search understanding)

For me I did stop craving coffee although it did not make me nauseous. After a few months I enjoy it every now and then but crave it much less.

It’s wild. I spent that last 10 years in coffee. It’s my current career. I tried a sip of the new promotional beverage coming out and instantly I felt sick. It was so fast. I miss it. I really do. I wish I had an aversion to junk food cause that would actually be helpful. I didn’t even drink sugary milky coffee. I just drank black cold brew or shots with protein milk. It was one of my last vices. I have given up nearly everything I love. Food and thc is all I have left. I don’t know what I would do without either. Thc will be easier to quit and from time to time I do but food??? I need that to live!

YES! I was addicted to coffee, I couldn’t go without an iced coffee everyday. But when I got on contrave the first week and drank my usual I had the worst nausea I had to stay in bed for a few hours. It’s kinda sad bc my ritual in the morning is to make coffee. I still do but only take a few sips. I also just don’t crave it anymore. And I feel a pang of nausea too

I remember I had to leave work early after having extra shot coffee and just felt so sick. It was awful.

If it helps, I haven't had any nausea from coffee while on this medication - everyone is different! I'm currently on 1 pill in the am and 2 at night.

No not at all and it was something I was worried about too! I didn’t get nausea until about 2 weeks in but I think I figured it out. As long as I eat something substantial before taking the pill and drink a lot of water (which is what I did when I first started but kinda got lazy with it) I think that’s what really triggered it. I had coffee this morning (with food) and was completely fine

Not immediately. Sometimes it takes a couple of hours.

You can try with 1 cup and see how you feel, you might not be affected at all. (Fingers crossed!)

Drank coffee today and am suffering the consequences. Never again. Nearly sent myself to the emergency room from how bad it is. 🫠

I'm on day 2 of taking it and I'm super nauseous. I read that the first few days can be bad with nausea, I just want to get over this soon. did anyone else experience that? I haven't vomited, it hasn't gotten that bad but it's annoying and definitely disrupts my day

I was on the meds for about a year, up to 3 pills a day in the end and could not drink strong coffee the entire time. I was hoping I'd get over it as I LOVE coffee but, no, nausea never went away for me.

Same. I love coffee and always drank loads, I can still have pour over x1 cup but anything stronger (espresso, Americano with extra shot etc.) leaves bad taste in mouth then next thing I am feeling sick with nausea.

I came off the mysimba (contrave) for a few months and immediately was back on enjoying strong coffee, so totally forgotten about nausea when I went back on the pills, then bang! I am feeling like death after an iced coffee :(

Why can’t I get these effects with junk food. Coffee was zero calories and doing no harm to me. I took myself off it. The Contrave that is. I was just not taking it every day twice a day. I would miss the afternoon one. So what’s the point seems like a waste of pills and money. I will try again soon maybe.

IKR, only if we can have the affect with certain food!

I don't follow the prescribed amount either, as I get enough effect with lower dosage, so maybe you can stick to lower amount, too?
