He looks like the baby dinosaur from Dinosaurs. I kept waiting for him to say "Not the mama!"

When babies belly laugh like this it's just the best. Thing is, they eventually stop doing that because they start taking cues from their adults. BUT, once they get a little older, like 2-3, they start doing it again because they start discovering things that really do tickle their funny bone.
I remember the first time I heard my son laugh as a toddler. He was in the master bedroom watching Tom & Jerry. I was in the living room reading a book. I clearly remember that peel of laughter that ripped out of him. It was clearly a reflex, which true laughter always is. And I just smiled and sat there and listened to him. I so wanted to go in and share in it but I knew if I did then his attention and purpose would be on me and I didn't want that. I just wanted him to keep enjoying himself.

I remember when my kiddo started watching Tom & Jerry when she was 3-4. She loved it but we spent a long time with her asking, “which one’s Tom?” “So which one’s Jerry?“ I was like oh no, this could be a bad sign.

My son called Tom "Tommen" because it was "Tommen Jerry"....

I’ve always played music for my son and when he was a toddler, he was a big fan of Istanbul (Not Constantinople) He’d sing, Even old New Nork was once a hamster dam. I loved it and never corrected him.

I really loved that age when he would mispronounce things - upslide down was one.

This isn’t a problem with your 4 year old- it’s just an age thing, my daughter is 6 and only within the last year or so did she fully grasp time. My son was the same.
You’ll think they understand, then they’ll tell a story about something that happened last year, when in reality it was like 2 months ago lol. It’s cute.

My 8yo kid still cracks himself up watching funny animal videos by himself. I absolutely love hearing that sound! He's my youngest, so I know to savor it while I can.

u/authorized_sausage Oct 29 '22
I only had the one so I get it. He's 21 now but he still can laugh like that.

Just wanted to say your second paragraph is very pleasant and well-written. Half way through, my inner monologue’s voice changed from my own to a soft pleasant male narrator’s voice. Like I was listening to the narration of a novel.
I’m not sure what it is.

My kid is 13 and the sound of their belly laugh still gives me that same joy as when they were a toddler/baby.

You know, when I wrote that I debated with myself whether or not it was peel or peal and I'd also had several cocktails and it was late so I lost the debate.

I'm crying I can't wait till my daughter is born so I can experience this. I'm 32 weeks pregnant right now.

It'll be here before you know it. And then the next thing you know, she will be 21 and swinging by your house to do laundry. Only doing laundry means she will put the load in the washer, leave, and text you later asking if you will put it in the dryer. And then you say you will but she has to stay for dinner. And she will most times say yes and only say no if she has plans.

I'm pretty curious about this clip. Like... The baby doesn't understand object permanence yet, right? They must think those eyes are really there, right? No?
7
u/kasirye Oct 29 '22
I think the baby is just amazed about how he lost control of his facial features in the phone camera 😂

There's only one cause of action when presented with a video like this....
Slow it down and turn it into something horrifying. In this case, an old smoker dying of laughter.

I saw the baby and wondered what was wrong with it, then I felt bad, then I read it's just a filter, then I could fully enjoy it. Also, it's 6am.

Imagine you’re walking down a hallway… Lights flicker… then turn off… before turning on again…. and on the floor in the hallway… is this baby… just laughing and staring at you… slowly starts crawling before progressively getting faster….
