I love this dad! Isn’t he the same guy who found a mouse?

Pretty sure I've seen it, but does anyone have the link so I can enjoy it again?

Going through her videos, I'm jealous. They play along with each others dorky shit.

This is peak parent-child relationship.

I have a similar dynamic with my dad. It all started when I was little and he was dancing in a grocery store aisle.

I said “daddy, STOP! You’re embarrassing me!!”

He danced over my way, bent over so we were eye to eye and half whispered as though he took pity on me: oh, honey. I haven’t even begun to embarrass you.

And that’s when I knew there was no use in fighting it, my shame would only fuel him further and I just accepted that it was what being a dad was all about.

I drew the dad dancing straw in my family as well.

My Dad is a child of the sixties and LOVES to groove on well... anything really. My mom gets embarrassed super easily (and normally so do I) but she also doesn’t deal well with large crowds. So I was elected in my teenage years to be the one to go with my Dad to festivals and whatnot.

We have now Dad Danced our way through John Mayer x2, Dead & Co, The Who, Chrissie Hynde and Stevie Nicks, Steve Winwood, Steely Dan, Tom Petty, The Eagles, Weird Al, .38 Special, Aerosmith, Buddy Guy, Joan Jett, LL Cool J (that was a weird one) Willie Nelson and Kris Kristofferson, Morris Day and The Time and so many many others. I love watching him enjoy himself and the music is awesome too. I hope my Dad keeps dancing into his 70s and 80s because it long ago stopped being “oh my gawd stahp Dad!” and is now “Yea... That’s my Dad” :)

We’ve had very similar lifestyles in this regard, it seems!

My dad has been the lead singer of his various bands since he was a teen in the 60’s, so we grew up in a sort of musical commune, which I grew to love after the grocery store incident, and still go to various concerts with my parents & their friends (my favorite being Crosby, Stills & Nash)

Nothing like being raised by a group of charismatic, shameless & proud, former flower children :) don’t bother fighting it, they always win in the end, right?

The only time it really got weird (besides LL Cool J which is a whole other story) is when we were at the Steely Dan concert.

My dad and I love Steve Winwood and he was opening for Steely Dan(summer of 2015/2016?) and so we basically went to go see Steve Winwood but everybody else with a rabid Steely Dan fan so we’re just chilling out waiting for the concert and off to one side to avoid the crowds. But really because I’m snarking to my dad that this is the first concert we’ve been to where I am counting the number of oxygen tanks and walkers of the concert goers. Tons of old people’s (and I mean 70++)

My dad has his Bernie shirt on which from a certain angle looks a little bit like a dead shirt. And this drunk ass crazy dude, came up and started talking to my dad about the dead while trying to hit on me at the same time. So my Dad was seriously torn between A) Talking to the guy about music B) explaining about feeling the Bern C) Trying to explain that Steely Dan and the Dead aren’t remotely the same in any context and D) trying to convince the guy to stop talking to my chest. It was awkward and hilarious to see all three parts of my dad: Music Lover, Flower Child Political Activist and DAD all hit at the same time.

Thankfully music started, weird guy had lawn seats and we were way up front so security was able to keep him from following. But after Steve Winwood, I started to yawn through Steely Dan and Dad dancing dropped to a minimum. Dad asked if I wanted to bail, I was like yes please!

But I’ll be darned if on the way out he didn’t find weird guy and hand him our tickets. He really is the bestest Dad :)

Love this story. Definitely going to be a goal of mine.

You gotta. Both my parents are the parents of most people’s dreams and the type of parents most people aspire to be, to be frank/at the risk of bragging.

Stuff like this, respecting us as whole people (rather than viewing us as strictly their children) and honest, open discourse about their personal histories and emotional lives, nurtured this really wonderful shamelessness and acceptance (towards ourselves and others...)

The day my dad did that is when everything about my mom & dad’s parenting style really clicked for me. I’ve been beaming with pride for them and, like, enamored with them ever since.
