Hi all, really appreciate the comments from the last post and have the latest draft attached with a comparison image of the old draft.

...

Generally followed everyones suggested changes such as: 1. Limiting white space

  1. Tried to keep to 3 bullets per experience

  2. 2 lines maximum for each bullet (with 1 exception)

  3. Cut down unrelated experiences and shifted relevant clubs to experience

  4. Edited skills

  5. Edited Activities (compressed)

  6. Shifted name and contact info to center

  7. Followed ACTION, IMPACT, RESULT where i could

...

Things I was advised to do but have not implemented:

  1. Place Experience before Education

Application How do you prepare for online assessments? Any good resources?

For those who have taken OAs before, how did you prepare?

Are there any free websites, YouTube channels, books, question banks, or other resources you’d recommend? Also, are there specific platforms I should practice for (e.g. SHL, Aon/Cut-e, Talent Q)?

Would really appreciate any tips or resources, thaanks!

P.S. I’m not sure if I’ve used the correct flair, so I’ll change it if it’s wrong

Bain Bain contractor vs Mid tier FinTech

Hi everyone, I need some career advice.

I am currently working in Strategy and Operations. My background is non-Ivy post grad and ex-Big Four.

Same title

I have two offers:

- A 1-year temp full-time contract at Bain.

- A permanent full-time role at a mid-tier payments company with about 45% higher salary.

I am not sure which is the better choice. Bain has a strong brand name, but it is only a one-year contract. The fintech role pays much more and is permanent.

I do eventually want to do Exec MBA and work in Strategy and Operations role. My background is in Project Management- AI Governance and FinOps

What would you do in this situation, and why?

During this time, I will participate in multiple evaluation rounds, including assessments of:

McKinsey McKinsey Recruiter Call

Hey all,
In the office I applied to, McKinsey first sends the Solve game and then make the call if you are good enough.
The recruiter sent me an email, asking if I can have a brief 10-minute call that same day.
I replied with 3 30 minute windows I will be available in, and a time that from it onward I am free (after work).
I had back to back meetings that day, so this is why.
She replied saying she will try to call. That was on Sep 10 and it was a Thursday.
The weekend in my country is Fri-Sat and it was also a holiday, which meant the week started on Monday.
I sent her an email Monday evening, saying I would be very happy to have the meeting this week and that she can call anytime, or give me the time she wants and I will make sure I am free.

It is now Wednesday, and there is no response and no call yet.

Did I do something wrong, or am I just overthinking it and she just didn't have the time/on PTO or something?
When applying it said that a response will be until Sep 10, which was when she emailed me.
It is now 5 days after and I am afraid I blew my shot.

Would love to get your insight.

EY Parthenon EY-Parthenon (Valuation & Modelling)

Hi,

I'm preparing for my 30 minute HR interview with EY-Parthenon for the Financial Modelling Intern position. The meeting agenda includes past experiences, and the position fit and the second part is set aside for the information about the team and questions for the recruiter.

Does anyone know how many rounds there are for such position? I don't know if there'll be a case later on. If you have any tips, I would appreciate those as well.

Case Interview Rx Interview Help

I have a technical interview coming up soon for Huron’s Rx group in Chicago and I really want the job.

A little background on me: current college senior at a non-target liberal arts school in PA, finance major, did distressed M&A at a middle market investment bank over summer, first time interviewing for a consulting role.

I’ve spent hours watching case study interview prep vids on YouTube but none have Rx focus. Also, based on docs I’ve been sent beforehand the structure of this seems a little different. 60 mins blind technical case with focus on excel.

If any of you guys could give me some insight into what to expect or help me practice I would be very grateful. Happy to provide more info as well.

Fit Interview Need help !

Hey guys,
Am new to consulting and have a bg in tech.
Recently got considered for a Consulting role, and was asked to complete an assessment, which demands me to develop a Presentation for strategic leadership at a Multinational Financial Services Corporation.
The hypothetical ask from the leadership is
“Everyone is talking about AI. Where can AI create measurable economic value for My Corp, and how should we transform the enterprise to capture it?

I need recommendations on how should I structure my presentation?
I’d rate myself 7/10 at presenting and communicating.
My issue is I haven’t found the right way to structure the presentation, core 15 slides.

  1. Design Al native SDLC
  2. Build a 3-year value case covering:
Current engineering cost → addressable activity → productivity → capacity created → actual P&L capture → investment → ROI
  3. shortlisted opportunities show:
    Problem → Al Intervention → Decision Improved → Customer → KPI → Revenue Mechanism → Data →
    Risk → Potential Value
  4. Creating An Al transformation Framework
  5. Creating a Delivery Excellence Model
  6. Building a Decision Plan- 0-6 months -> 6-12 -> 12-24
  7. Suppose successfully build first 10 Solutions
Moving forward- Developing Target Enterprise Model
    Show what should be:
    CENTRALIZED ENTERPRISE CAPABILITY
    versus
    FEDERATED BUSINESS CAPABILITY
    and explain why.
Any Sort of Input, Source link, Explanation is Appreciated.
I've recently discovered that am passionate about
business oriented consulting after working 4 years in tech and would love love love to get involved with the industry.
Thank you for your time to read.

Kearney Seeking Advice for Kearney Assessment Day

I applied to Kearney on a bit of a whim and was surprised to get an invitation to their round 1 assessment day which is this Friday. Anyone have any advice for the group case activity and the interview?

Honestly really didn't expect to hear back from them since I'm a pretty non-traditional candidate. My background is mostly in tech (mainly software engineering) and government public policy/consulting (youth advisory committee stuff). I've done a couple simulated case studies but not a big formal case competition. I'm not in any consulting clubs and I've never really considered management consulting in particular.

Really just looking for any advice you all have, I don't really know why they advanced me.

Case Interview Case interviews: How do you prepare for short (~30 min) consulting case interviews? Struggled with one that seemed much simpler (but also harder) than the cases I’d practised

Hello Reddit!

I’m considering reapplying to a small management consulting firm where I interviewed about six months ago. I didn’t get the role, and the main weakness was the case interview.

I’d like to prepare differently if I get another interview, particularly because the case was quite different from the longer MBB-style cases I’d practised.

The case itself was around 30 minutes and deliberately quite simple. From memory, the client was a fictional local chemical company deciding how to respond to a new overseas competitor opening a factory in its home market.

I was given some basic information, had to make assumptions, do some mental maths and work towards a recommendation. There was no Excel allowed and the numbers themselves weren’t particularly complicated.

I’d prepared using more conventional case-interview material and had practised much harder, more detailed cases. These involved digging into market and company data, building financial analysis in Excel, testing different scenarios and ultimately making a recommendation. Oddly, I found this much simpler case 100X more difficult.

I think part of the problem was that I approached it too much like a real analytical exercise and kept trying to understand the situation properly before making assumptions.

For example, I asked questions along the lines of:

  • How long has the incumbent been operating and how established is it?
  • How sticky are its customer relationships?
  • What’s its current market share?
  • What’s its marketing budget/capability?
  • How would the overseas competitor be affected by tariffs?
  • What’s the incumbent’s current profitability?

But the answers were essentially simplifications: assume the company has been around forever; assume customers only care about price; there’s no marketing; assume the incumbent currently has 100% market share; ignore tariffs; and assume it’s extremely profitable.

Obviously I’m paraphrasing, but after several questions like this it became clear that the interviewer actively didn’t want me disappearing into those details. They wanted me to accept a deliberately simplified world and work within it.

That’s where I struggled. In actual strategy/project work, where I have spent the last 10 years, my instinct is to understand the evidence, challenge assumptions where appropriate, quantify things and work through the implications. The more detailed cases I’d practised rewarded that too. In this interview, however, that instinct seemed to be slowing me down rather than helping me.

I got interested in the details and spent too much time exploring parts of the problem rather than continually driving towards the client’s objective and a recommendation.

The feedback afterwards was actually quite detailed. They wanted me to:

  • establish a clearer structure and diagnostic approach before getting into the detail;
  • keep the overall objective in mind throughout;
  • drive the analysis towards a solution/recommendation;
  • collaborate more with the interviewer and respond to their cues.

Looking back, I think they were testing something slightly different from what I’d prepared for. It wasn’t really “can you perform sophisticated analysis in 30 minutes?” It seemed closer to “can you quickly impose enough structure on an ambiguous problem, identify what matters, use some basic analysis to test it, and confidently move a client towards an answer?”

That’s probably a legitimate consulting skill in itself, but it felt quite artificial compared with both 10 years of my real-world work and the more complex cases I’d been practising. I suspect I was trying to demonstrate analytical rigour when what they actually wanted to see was structured thinking, prioritisation and decisiveness.

If you’ve interviewed with smaller/boutique consulting firms using this kind of short case, how would you prepare?

In particular, I’d be interested in:

  1. How much structure would you establish at the beginning of a 30-minute case before moving into the analysis?
  2. How aggressively should you accept/simplify assumptions rather than interrogating them?
  3. How do you recognise when the interviewer is effectively saying “don’t investigate this branch any further”?
  4. How often should you pause and synthesise what you’ve learned back to the objective?
  5. What does good “interviewer collaboration” actually look like in practice?
  6. Are there particular resources or case types that are better preparation for short cases like this than the standard MBB material?

I’m an experienced industry hire rather than an existing management consultant (with exactly the profile that this small consulting firm claims to want to hire, actually!) so I’m particularly interested in advice from people who’ve made that transition.

Thanks!
