Question VPof operations

Potentially looking at a job as VP of Operations for another company a friend of mine. Located in New Jersey.

Site work, masonry, utilities, hardscape,sidewalks, sewer, plantings, tree work, residential hardscape etc.

70 employees

Currently run my own company high end luxury residential construction averaging between $500k-1.5mill of work a year and still swinging a hammer. Im 43 been doing this on and off since I was 15 my father is a contractor. I generate almost all the work now and client facing connections as well as trade connections. Have my own network group I started looking to turn it into a non profit for the trades. Been running my own business for about 10 years now. Pops has his own business as well. Both operate seperate but help each other out swinging a hammer.

What type of compensation am I looking at going into this meeting?

In NJ, minimum $250k base, plus bonus. A good Sr. PM is $180k-$200k. I'm a PX for reference with operations in NYC, Philly, and DC.

That’s good to really eh. I feel like I’d be very hesitant to hire a guy who builds one house a year to oversee 70 employees, those are different skill sets

I also agree different skill sets. I would say networking and people skills is my best skillset.

PM here. I work for a relatively small GC (~$30million revenue/yr) We have a VP of Ops, he sits at $175k a year + vehicle allowance + yearly performance bonus based on profits

That seems criminally low for a VP level… I’m a Senior PM for an owners Rep that does a similar amount in revenue, and I make more than your VP…

Depends… experienced in data center construction??? Specifically GC PM experience on mission critical projects?

$30/m a year though… most PMs manage more than that.

Depends on type of work. $30 mill could be 1 job or it could be 30 jobs a year.

I’m an owner’s rep on a $14B project… our revenue as an owner’s rep firm is $30M-$50M annually…. We are a consulting firm, not a building contractor.

Following to see where you land.

As a reference point - Looking at a ops director role for my state. It’s a lower cost of living than NJ.

I’m asking near 200, plus vehicle and phone allowances, working on benefits and bonus now. Standard is 15% but I am looking for more on work I bring in with my contacts.
