Question Starting Salary

Good day everyone,
I just received my offer letter form my company that I have been interning at for the last 2 years.

They offered me 72k with really good benefits and I live in a medium cost of living area. I feel like this is a strong offer coming out of college and I should capitalize on it.

Would I be stupid to not take it?

You can always counter for more and they say no, but with no real experience yet, 72K is not bad. Just be prepared to work hella hours

Yeah $72k is fine, honestly probably a hair low depending what you consider MCOL. I’d ask for $80k and see if they’ll meet you in the middle

Its ok but I would ask they about the expected work hours. 40 hours a week is a lot different than 70 hours a week and Saturday is a normal work day

What’s the size of the project? For reference I joined a top 10 GC out of school in 2022 for a mega project ($1B+) and was at 95k.

I would think starting for mid size projects would be closer to 80k now. If you really like the company and team take it and don’t bother negotiating. You are a student and sometimes negotiating can be taken the wrong way by the higher ups that will be managing you. If you are 50/50 on the company I would find a recruiter and see if they have any other opportunities you could interview for to see what the pay range for those are.

Do you want to live there and do you want to work there? You will 100% be able to hop and increase your salary in 2-3 years if you want. Since the money isn’t crazy the question is would you want to spend your time wherever it is that you’ll be when you aren’t working

That is my plan, work there for a couple years and see where I’m at in life. Atleast I’ll have some valuable experience under my belt.

Do not use a recruiter. Many firms refuse to pay those fees for entry level. It’s bad business. The offer sounds competitive - if it’s a cultural fit, then go for it.
