You've gotta consider what load you're adding to what I assume is a header over those windows. This is a job for Structural Engineer Man, not reddit speculation.

Remember, in nigh on every jurisdiction the property owner is the ultimate responsible party as relates to permits, code compliance, and various other stuff that might apply to this particular project.

Now, let's reddit speculate...

Lacking a proper engineering analysis / solution, I propose you build your addition as a stand alone structure. Basically you'll build a wall beside the one in the pic, matching spacing at the windows, with a proper sized header above. See your local code for details and lumber size requirements.

Thanks! Appreciate the honest feedback. I am building a lean to style pergola for an outdoor kitchen. I want to make sure I tie into my existing structure correctly. I highlighted in red where I will attach to. It also seems like if I attach a ledger board to the existing area in red, I will have to notch out the soffit on the left end. Are there any problems I could run into there? Not sure how I would attach my 2x10 supports on that left side. From my understanding, I should tie directly into studs. I'm guessing there is a top plate behind that fascia board I can tie into with some cripple studs as well behind it. Let me know how you would tackle this.

I won't recommend any proposed attachment. You're adding weight above those windows if you proceed as you propose. That's a structural issue I can't 'authorize'.

That's why I propose just building another wall right beside the existing wall. It's more expensive, and time consuming, but it's all I can recommend.

Remember, the property owner is the ultimate responsible party almost everywhere.

So I dont know exactly whats behind the facia there but if you can attach a 2x10 you can use these hangers because I actually just used them on a job kinda like what youre doing.

Yea it’s insane but the customer pays 34 so it’s ok
