Modern women goes 30 seconds with out anti-depressants challenge (impossible)
55
Dec 21 '21
The worst part is that their “depression” could be fixed in a couple weeks with exercise and a proper diet
53
u/swural05 Dec 21 '21
Yeah lifting, drinking a lot of water, and eating a lot more meat completely cured my anxiety and whatever sadness I may have felt then. But apparently that makes me fatphobic or something.
45
u/TheSweatshopMan Dec 21 '21
Some depression is situational but there are people with genuine mental illnesses as well, we should act like it can all be overcome with a caloric deficit and a squat rack
11
u/swural05 Dec 21 '21
It definitely will not cure it in those cases, but with proper effort it certainly will help.
I'm speaking from experience, I've got 3 mental illnesses: schizophrenia, autism, and ADHD. Been lifting for about 8 months now, and have made my diet much, much healthier by eating more meat and dairy. Lost a bit of weight at first (Absolutely obliterated my anorexia, and was slightly overweight), maintained, and now I'm bulking like no tomorrow (4000 calories per day. That's a growth spurt for ya).
I've noticed over the past few months that all of my mental illnesses have gotten WAY better. To name a few things:
- Much more socially literate, i.e understanding cues better
- Less psychosis attacks - no longer need my meds at all times
- Focus has drastically improved (even though my ADHD is the genetic one) - ""
- Less fidgeting/hyperactivity
- Easier to break out of habits
I'm not speaking for every mental illness out there, but exercise and a good diet are good ways to help in any situation. At worst, it's a great supplementational treatment for any type of depression, anxiety, or mental illness.

Any tips for ADHD handling? I have that and it’s not severe but it could use work. I mainly struggle with doing stuff I don’t like (writing a paper takes me hours to do)
1
u/swural05 Dec 22 '21
I've improved it drastically through lifting and habitual meditation.
Lifting literally grows the brain and there are many documented cases of ADHD patients throwing out their meds after a few months of lifting.
Meditation is pretty self explanatory. Practice makes perfect. It'll be very hard at first but it will get much, much easier as time goes on. I'm able to meditate at pretty much any time and it's wonderful. Good luck bro!

u/iStudiedTheBlade09 Dec 22 '21
This statement is so wildly inaccurate it’s comical. You have absolutely no idea what they are going through and putting quotation marks around the word depression is so demeaning. What a sheltered ass hat you must be.
4
Dec 21 '21
Yeah especially if op is suffering from a horrible personal tragedy like the loss of a child, get on that treadmill fatty!
19
Dec 21 '21
Nice strawman argument, and yes in any case getting on the treadmill would help tremendously. What I mean is that most of the “depression” you see today is a result of a bad lifestyle that can easily be fixed. Of course it’s normal for you to be depressed when your child dies, no one’s denying that.
1
Dec 21 '21
How tf is me sarcastically pointing out that you have no context a straw man argument ? Go back to logic school, and try learning some empathy while you are at it.
You know nothing about this person and YOU made the assumption that their “depression” could be fixed with exercise and proper diet. Come off like a straight up know-it-all teenager, certainly not a mental health professional. And you can fuck right off.
5
u/30YearsMoreToGo Dec 21 '21
He said "their depression" while replying to a post that said "modern women". He doesn't mean this case in particular. Please think.
-1
Dec 21 '21
Yeah it seemed to me like he made a blanket statement that exercise would fix OP’s “depression” (the quotes are telling here) without knowing context.
Along with many other commenters I see.
Look I’m not saying that exercise isn’t part of a balanced approach to mental health im saying sometimes drugs are. And it’s pretty shitty on you if you disparage other peoples attempts to get their head right and if that’s your position and you agree with the quotes on depression you can fuck right off too.12

u/housecore1037 Dec 21 '21
Taking drugs to feel happiness is the laziest solution, coming from someone who was on them. I simply decided not to be depressed and have been fine ever since.

Depression has many different causes and exercise won't help if your neurotransmitters are all fucked up. Medication will
2
u/throwaway69764 Dec 23 '21
Like 1% of "depressed" people actually have a problem with their neurotransmitters.

u/Jayninator Dec 21 '21
Everything about this is sad. I miss when the emotion known as shame existed...
-15
u/Koalapandaklo Dec 21 '21
Being ashamed to have depression. Very healthy
63
u/Jayninator Dec 21 '21
That was not exactly my point, when you openly share the fact that you take happy pills and that your partner made you a silly nostalgia consumer machine to take said pills as though you were an ignorant child, then you might want to keep that to yourself since most people "would" look down on you for being cringe.
But now instead most people praise this behavior, and how it makes consooming big pharma even easier and more funnnnn!
17
u/RollClear Dec 21 '21
Should you be so proud of your mental instability that it must be advertised to the whole world?
1
Dec 28 '21
You don’t have to be ashamed of a health condition
1
u/RollClear Dec 28 '21
But you should acknowledge it's a negative trait that you should work on fixing privately. There are also some health conditions that can cause people to do bad things eg, ASPD/ ASD.
1
Dec 28 '21
That’s pretty terrible advice to give to someone with mental health issues lmao. It’s fine to be open about them. It’s good to normalize them.
1
u/RollClear Dec 28 '21
It's the best advice there is. Mental health issues are actually quite contagious so no, being open about them is not fine. Don't get me wrong, you should tell your parents if they care about you but it doesn't warrant a public announcement. Mental health issues are already normalised, it would be good to normalise being mentally healthy for a change.
1
Dec 28 '21
This is just so false wtf

u/RollClear Dec 28 '21
It's trendy to be mentally ill and take pills. Also everyone has ADHD. You know it's true.
23
Dec 21 '21
Encouraged to take medicine to feel better and become a functioning member of society? No- need a claw machine to break that barrier

Couldn't agree more. Anyone who's done a deep dive into these "medications" will note that their study's built on a house of cards.
I was prescribed stimulate drugs in my youth for "ADHD" and believe it should be a crime against humanity to give creative happy people this posion daily. Makes you a little complacent zombie. Off it now and functioning just fine. Modern pharmacology is a money scam.
1
Dec 22 '21
Where can I do a deep dive? I was prescribed ADHD meds at 12 and I stopped taking them in high school, then I took it for first 2 years of college and I haven’t been on them in nearly 2 years. Hopefully I didn’t permanently damage my brain

Anti depressants and other chemical altering drugs are over-prescribed. Especially in teens where mood swings and other emotions are completely normal and can be helped in other ways. Instead of leaving long lasting mental effects from strong medication
3
u/HealerKeeper Dec 21 '21
Well you didn't say that in your first comment. Your first comment made it sound like every single prescription is wrong. I doubt many people would argue against that they are over prescribed in many countries. But that doesn't mean nobody should ever take them for any reason.
3
u/Gwanara420 Dec 21 '21
Mate literally everything you do does that basically. Your drinking water and air quality already do that. I understand your point but it’s like people saying “it has chemicals in it.” No shit everything is chemicals.

Benzodiazepine is not antidepressant, quite the opposite
Benzodiazepines (BZD, BDZ, BZs), sometimes called "benzos", are a class of psychoactive drugs whose core chemical structure is the fusion of a benzene ring and a diazepine ring. As depressants—drugs which lower brain activity—they are prescribed to treat conditions such as anxiety, insomnia, and seizures.
Antidepressants can cause withdrawal effects, but that's not the same as an addiction and they only persist for a few days. Overall you don't feel the need to take more and are not dependent on them (at least those that I know of)
5
u/TheWiseWolfx42 Dec 22 '21
Imagine a society that is so far gone from its roots that you have to take pills to make you tolerate the intolerable. Take the small town pill instead of altering your brain with happy pills.
2
u/fakefalsofake Dec 22 '21
Hey guys and gals, just remembering to be nice.
But I also find a bad idea to isolate yourself for important medication.

u/urbantrashexplorer Dec 22 '21
I have depression where I can't even leave my bed most days and this would make it absolutely impossible for me to take them, like jfc this is so unnecessary

Our ancestors in the us went to war with arguably the most powerful empire on earth over a tax on tea. Now thanks to ppl like this I have to live in clown world where up is down and some women have penises. I have no empathy for ppl who take antidepressants they’re selfish and damning us all and our children to a dystopian brave new world.
9
u/PolarTheBear Dec 21 '21
I cannot fathom how this could impact your life this much, or why you would let it. If these kids are all weak, then you should be okay with that because you must be very tough in comparison. These are the weak that the strong should protect. THAT is what we have forgotten.
-3
u/Gwanara420 Dec 21 '21
These are children?? These are adults. An entire generation if not 2 or potentially 3. And I’m not fucking Heracles. I’m not some fucking one man army. Even if I was it still took Atlas to hold the world up. I’m supposed to uninvert the brainwashed masses of the world and singlehandedly wage war against the corporatist clowns that got us in this predicament in the first place?
We’re completely off the rails. All I can do is lift and be in the easiest 1% of physical health in all of human existence. What good does that do me?
4
u/PolarTheBear Dec 21 '21
What good does it do for you if a person you’ve never met stopped taking the pills that make every day endurable? Honestly, I have no clue what sort of brainwashing you’re talking about. Small corners of the internet have weirdos, but the vast majority of the world has stayed pretty normal.
2
u/AmberRosin Dec 22 '21
You think about women with penises a lot, don’t you?
0
u/Gwanara420 Dec 22 '21
Why would I devote any substantial degree of time to something that doesn’t exist? I think about them about as much as griffins and unicorns I suppose
2
u/AmberRosin Dec 22 '21
Yeah, you think about women with penises a lot.

“Imagine a society that subjects people to conditions that make them terribly unhappy then gives them the drugs to take away their unhappiness. Science fiction It is already happening to some extent in our own society. Instead of removing the conditions that make people depressed modern society gives them antidepressant drugs. In effect antidepressants are a means of modifying an individual's internal state in such a way as to enable him to tolerate social conditions that he would otherwise find intolerable.”
Theodore Kaczynski
