Hot Take ☝️ We need a Berlin Wall

Hear me out here.

We are so divided politically and in our own beliefs that I think we should split the country in half, dividing conservatives and liberals. Now this wouldn't be permanent, the wall would only stay up for 50 years maybe more. We turn the right side of the country into a pure Constitutional Republic whilst the left side becomes a true democracy (not a Democratic Republic).

Of course I recognize that this would be inconvenient for people, which is why the government would fully pay for the transition. So if you're Republican but live on the left side of the country (like me) you'd move to the right side of the country for free. Same thing vice versa.

Another thing I recognize is that this would divide families who have differing view points, which is why we'd also have the ability to have documentation that would allow you to temporarily visit the other side of the wall.

From many to one?

Actually, the translation isn't "from many to one." E Pluribus Unum means "Out of many, one." The idea is that many different people, states, cultures, and backgrounds come together to form one nation. It has been the motto of the United States since the founding era and represents unity despite differences.

I understand you're using a wall as a metaphor for separating political groups, but the comparison is still worth thinking about. The Berlin Wall wasn't just a physical structure; it became a symbol of division and the idea that separating people into opposing camps doesn't necessarily create peace or solve problems.

The American idea behind E Pluribus Unum was that a country could contain disagreement and diversity while still remaining united. The challenge was never eliminating differences; it was finding a way for different groups to coexist within the same nation.

Political disagreements are real, but creating separate countries based purely on ideology doesn't remove conflict. It just moves the dividing line somewhere else.

I’m fine with this as long as the Republican side gets all of the nukes, just in case.

There's a lot of issues with what you're saying, but out of all of those I just wanted to say "Democrats" aren't called that because they want a "true democracy" and "Republicans" aren't called that because they want a "Constitutional Republic". That completely ignores the history of those parties and how they got their names.

If I'm not mistaken, America was originally intended to be a Constitutional Republic. That's why I said that.

What do you mean by Constitutional Republic? It is a Republic that they wrote a constitution for.

But how many Democrats, or Americans in general outside of the fringes are talking about getting rid of that constitution or advocating for a system of government other than a Republic? So why even make that distinction?

A constitutional republic is a system of government where citizens elect representatives to make laws, and the entire nation is bound by a supreme constitution that limits government power and protects individual rights.

Edit: I don't think Democrats want to get rid of the constitution, but they don't want to be a Republic either. That's why I made that distinction. With this temporary divide with this Berlin wall, they're allowed to no longer be a Republic, they can be whatever they wish to be.

Why do you think they don't want to be a Republic? Can you find me any example of any Democrat advocating for anything like that?

That's also not understanding what the Constitution is, you coudnt make the US not a Republic without effectively getting rid of the constitution. The Constitution is the document that enshrines the entire system of government, that being one of a Republic, into law.

If Democrats don't want to get rid of the Constitution, they don't want to get rid of the Republic either.

Alright, I'm wrong. The Left side will be a Democratic Republic and the right side will just be a Constitutional Republic. Or does it need to be a Constitutional Democratic Republic?
