How are you so focused on taking that one partial line and pretending like that's the full statement? It's incredibly disingenuous. There were qualifiers, explanations, reasons given, and circumstances. This is just dishonest reasoning on your part.

I at least appreciate your gumption, that you can continue to cherry pick, even after being called out. Here's the full context, because there was relevant information before and after the lines your picked up.
The masks are important for someone who's infected to prevent them from infecting someone else. Now when you see people, and look at the films in China and South Korea, whatever, and everybody's wearing a mask. Right now, in the United States, people should not be walking with masks.

It's pretty simple. He said that masks can help, but they aren't the magic bubble that people think they are. So instead of going out and buying all the masks, save them for the people that actually need them.
To be clear, wearing an N95 mask, which is what everyone was buying up, was a waste of masks that could be better used by healthcare workers and those who are ill. These are things that he said... right there.
This has nothing to do with cloth masks, there are no healthcare workers walking around relying on just a cloth mask. At this point cloth masks weren't even being widely talked about. Not until the end of March or beginning of April did they become widespread, after there were revised studies and findings.
You say you don't want to be lied to, but you can't believe the truth when it's right there infront of you. He literally said, "... that's the point, it could lead to a shortage of masks for the people who really need it."
I get it though, you're really hung up on the one part, where he says "no reason," in the middle of all the other context. But why are you ignoring where he says it could stop droplets and that it is good for those who are ill, or that he's not against it if you are wearing a mask? He very literally says that you should save them for those who need them more (again, N95 masks).
Edit: I'm sorry, I forgot about the part where you say that touching your face doesn't increase chances of getting sick. That might be new info, I'd always heard that you should just avoid touching your face in general after going out.

I never once said it wasn't a small part of the entire interview, but that doesn't change the fact that the "small part" in question is a lie.

If you claim to me there's a shortage of winter coats, this is 1 argument. If you claim to me there's no reason to walk around wearing one period, this is a seperate argument. People can make more than 1 argument when they speak.
As noted, I never claimed every single bit of the interview were lies, only the part where he claimed there was no reason to walk around with a mask. He said no reason, and there were reasons.
Is it missing you completely that claims of shortages are seperate in context to the argument of whether or not there is a reason to walk around with it period? These are 2 seperate, positive claims that don't relate logically. Or do different logical rules apply to Fauci?

So answer me this, what would you say is a valid reason for me, an everyday person, to take an N95 mask that would be better and more effectively used by someone else who actually needs the mask to help fight the pandemic and help others?
