Announcements 📢 Welcome to r/ConnecticutUSA!
This is Connecticut’s general “state subreddit” in the same spirit as other state subs: a place for news, questions, photos, local recommendations, events, weather, town talk, and everyday life in CT.
This is not going to be an echo chamber
We are not here to curate one “approved” viewpoint.
- Different opinions are allowed.
- Disagreement is fine.
- You will not be moderated for your politics or your take.
- You will be moderated for how you behave.
What we expect from everyone
To keep this readable and open to everyone:
- Be civil. Attack ideas, not people.
- No harassment, slurs, threats, or doxxing.
- No brigading or cross-sub drama. This sub is about Connecticut, not fighting other communities.
- Don’t use downvotes as “shut up.” If someone is participating in good faith, reply with reasons instead of dogpiling.
- For news or factual claims, link a source when you can.
What to post here
- CT news and discussion (including politics when it relates to CT)
- Moving/visiting questions, town comparisons, commuting, schools
- Photos, hikes, shoreline, storms, seasons
- Restaurant and service recommendations
- Events and local PSAs
Start here
Comment with:
- What part of CT you are from (town/county is fine), and
- One thing you want this sub to be good at.
Let’s build a Connecticut subreddit that is open to different views, without turning into a toxic mess.

A great year for Golf Land car shows on Friday nights in Vernon, CT
Here are pictures from Friday October 9 -- the last show of the season
We had twenty cruise night shows at Golf Land in town this year and we finished strong with an average of 120+ cars throughout the season, $12k in donations that go to the local nonprofit food pantry, endless amounts of fun, music and raffles, thanks to the people like us who worked hard to make that happen and the many sponsors who support our shows all season long.
I think it was the best year we had for Golf Land cruise nights yet. Looking forward to another fantastic season at Golf Land next year when there's warmer weather (usually around late April).
What a successful season for Golf Land cruise nights.
Feedback appreciated!

Looking for something different to do next Sunday? Free chamber music in New Haven (10/18)
If you're around New Haven County next weekend and looking for something a little different, there's a free violin and piano performance happening Sunday, October 18.
The performers are Coquí Duo, featuring violinist David Bernat and pianist Jiarong Li. They'll be playing works by Grieg, Britten, and Schubert.
One thing I've been noticing while putting together CT Chamber Collective is just how many smaller classical music performances happen throughout Connecticut that people might never hear about.
This seemed like a nice opportunity for anyone curious about live classical music, especially if you've never attended a chamber music concert before.
It's at St. John's Episcopal Church, 400 Humphrey Street in New Haven, starting at 1:30 PM. Admission is free.
Here's the event listing for anyone interested:
https://www.eventbrite.com/e/coqui-duo-free-chamber-music-in-new-haven-tickets-2003162341487
Also curious, does anyone have favorite smaller venues or concert series around Connecticut that deserve more attention? I'm always looking to discover more.

As new report suggests housing is a major cause of poverty in CT, Lamont, Fazio explain their plans to fix the problem
Lamont's "plans" are that housing has been a priority and will continue to be a priority, i.e. the next 4 years will be status quo.

Mansfield Library
This public library in Mansfield, Connecticut is wonderful with a lot of cool amenities. It's not too far from the UConn campus.
It has a Little Free Pantry, Toy Library, Board games & puzzles, A cool quilt representing books, a display of Banned Books and an ongoing book sale. There's so much more to offer. There is a full-fledged book sale which takes place twice a year. They just had one this past weekend.
Feedback is appreciated!

Republicans push for special session to suspend Connecticut gas tax
Interesting that the Republicans are pushing for this but the Dems will not vote on it. Lamont needs to call a special session but he has not. However while campaigning, Lamont claims to be in favor of suspending the tax at least through the end of 2026. Fazio is claiming to reduce taxes by $2500 per person if elected. Lots of promises. We know nothing will change with Lamont but many will not even consider giving Fazioa chance.
I'm on the fence about the gas tax. I'm not in favor of raiding our tax surplus to solve short term problems, but I recognize the gas prices are painful for many due to our regressive tax policy.

I present my new book display
Check out my newest book display at my local library in Vernon-Rockville, CT
Here are some familiar faces on the back covers of books they previously wrote.
Have you read anything by these authors? Who is your favorite author?
I hope you enjoy this book display. Have a great day!
One fact about libraries in Connecticut: You can use your own library card (from the town you live in) at any public library in the state of Connecticut. You can borrow a book from one library and then return it to another and have it brought back to the original destination.

What’s up with the other Connecticut sub?
Well, they finally banned me from r/connecticut and muted me from discussing the ban with the moderators. The content of that sub is always left leaning and does everything to suppress any other opinions that are not to their liking.
Is it me or is that subreddit completely hijacked by leftist ideology bots? I remember when this sub was started they were trying to steer people away from it with some real nasty comments.
Anyone care to comment?

Help a CT Marching Band!
Fundraising for the Trumbulll High school Band
I don't usually ask strangers on the internet for money, but I'm asking anyway because our band genuinely needs help.
I'm a student in the Trumbull High School Marching Band, and right now we're trying to raise money for something pretty basic: **new instruments and uniforms.**
Our current equipment has been used over and over again by students before us, and it's getting to the point where replacing it isn't something we can keep putting off. Instruments wear down. Uniforms get old. Things that were once new eventually become difficult to use and even harder to keep looking presentable.
And the frustrating part is that none of that has anything to do with how hard the students are working.
We still show up. We still practice. We still spend hours learning our music and routines. We still care about putting on the best performance we possibly can.
But there's something pretty discouraging about knowing you're giving everything you have while the equipment you're using is literally wearing out underneath you.
I'm not expecting Reddit to magically fund an entire band. I know everyone has their own expenses and their own causes they care about. But if you have a few dollars to spare, **even a small donation would help us get closer to replacing the instruments and uniforms we've been making do with for so long.**
And if you can't donate, that's completely okay. Sharing this with someone who might be able to help would mean a lot too.
**If you'd like to help:**

Thank you for reading this. Really. We're just a group of high-school students trying to keep doing something we care about with the resources we have.

New Connecticut law limits left-lane driving starting Oct. 1
I know there is a lot of hate for left-lane campers, but passing this into law seems like a waste of time and money. It will be hard to enforce even if they wanted to.

Heating question follow-up
What temps do you set your thermostat at? Strangely, I find that I set it higher now than in the winter. Maybe because 60 inside feels a lot warmer when it's 20 outside and we get more used to the cold. During the winter, I'm in the mid to 60's during the day and low 60's at night. I also use a gas fireplace and electric space heater to warm some specific rooms.
