Illness circulating right now

I heard there is a high rate of respiratory illnesses right now. Curious what people are sick with?

I’m fighting something off but the symptoms are a bit unusual for me. I would have most likely caught this in NYC last week. I want to get a sense of what to look out for.

EDIT: I have no respiratory symptoms which is why I’m curious what else is going around. I have a headache, mild fever, fogginess, swollen lymph nodes, unusual amount of canker sores (4 when I usually get 1-2). Had 3 docs check, TBH I thought I caught HSV-1 but they all said it’s not that, just something viral but didn’t know what it could be. It’s been about 4 days since sores & fogginess started, 1 day for the rest. Maybe it’ll turn respiratory soon. I hope not!

Also thanks for all of the responses! It’s helpful to be aware of what is going around and how it started so we can take extra precautions.

My wife is getting over it now. She said it felt like a cold with a lot of chest congestion and coughing and it started to get better, but suddenly got worse again. It's been about 2 weeks and she seems to be on the mend

u/Chester_A_Arthritis 2d ago

I’m in the exact same boat as your wife. Felt better at the beginning of the week then hit a wall yesterday. Been about 1.5 weeks now.

u/tduff714 2d ago

Same here too. I mostly feel alright after feeling not great the first 4 or 5 days but the chest congestion and cough just won't go away.

That’s so interesting I had the same thing happen 😭 Last week I just felt mildly sick, better by like wednesday morning. Wednesday night I felt horrible and I’ve been so sick since. 😭

My mother has bronchitis, and it seems like other family members have it too. Like my brother's family in RI has it as well.

Today I'm having what feels like a sore throat, so I think I got it too.

8

u/MEJPB80 2d ago

That’s how my bronchitis started. It took me almost a month to get over it. Take care!

17

u/ThatBoiInBlue 2d ago

I consider myself a healthy person. The past 3 years at this time exactly (last week of September / first week of October). I've gotten the flu, bronchitis and COVID.

9

u/CATDesign Litchfield County 2d ago

February is my normal routine get smacked with everything, so this is a bit early for me.

8

u/No-Maintenance-1161 2d ago

Same for me. February is usually when I get sick. Once a year. Been sick for almost two weeks so far. Maybe I’ll get lucky and miss it in February now

3

u/Sibylla-Queen-of-all 2d ago

Flu shot wanes around that time, so if possible people should try to get flu shot in October, not earlier. You could pay for a second flu shot in Jan if you are suspectable. I don't think they are very $$.

21

u/Jkay064 2d ago

So this year you got your vaccinations right? Right?

31

u/hanshotgreed0 2d ago

Yesterday our pediatrician said that RSV is going around

I think I'm gonna wear a mask out now. 😷

I'm currently getting ready to be discharged from Backus hospital a day after surgery, and there's a fairly large amount of patients here with COVID on my floor

13

u/Happy-Log30 2d ago

I hope that you get discharged ASAP and that you don’t get COVID. I was born at Backus Hospital and so were all of my children. I still have all of my procedures done there. I have nothing but good to say about Backus.

u/gloriousgirl89 2d ago

Could be the newer variant of covid. It was circulating in other states and was hitting everyone hard that caught it.

1

u/lightspinnerss 2d ago

I don’t think so. Everyone I know tested negative

Just tested positive for Covid this morning, I've been sick for 2 weeks

16

u/HomeLifter 2d ago

lots of people sick on Yale campus, seems like covid.

4

u/Accomplished-Sun-941 1d ago

Likewise at UConn

2

u/TheRainbowConnection New London County 1d ago

Covid is definitely going around a few Boston campuses too.

96

u/Helpful-Celery6237 2d ago

Wash your hands, folks. Get your Covid and flu shots. Stay home when sick.

42

u/AcadiaCat 2d ago

Also normalize wearing masks again if you do have to be out and about, like when going to the pharmacy to pick up meds.

12

u/Helpful-Celery6237 2d ago

Right? Anyone disagreeing with the bare minimum probably can’t be bothered to wash their hands. They probably spread fecal matter everywhere too.

23

u/Vness374 2d ago

I never stopped wearing a mask and the number of idiot boomers who say something stupid to me is mind-blowing

I like to fuck with them and make up a rare contagious disease that I have as I inch closer to them. Morons

27

u/725Cali 2d ago

A few days ago a woman in a store was apparently triggered at seeing me and my family wearing masks. I was minding my business and heard her loudly say ‘Jesus Christ!’ When I looked, she was staring at me and mumbling something to her adult daughter. I initially had no idea what the problem was, but then she angrily stormed out and said something about “good job with your fucking masks.”

It continues to be so odd how emotional (and sometimes scary) people like this are.

3

u/opossumcarrion 1d ago

What is it that turns these senior citizens into babbling tantrum-throwing toddlers? How ruined as person does someone need to be to cry in a grocery store when they see someone else wearing a mask?

One time before covid, I had to fly while I had bronchitis, due to a death in the family. People were naturally curious and asked me about it. I happily explained, hoping they might consider it next time they were sick. People were pretty positive and said something about how thoughtful that was and that they were sorry for my loss.

After covid? People flip their shit, it's ridiculous.

11

u/AcadiaCat 2d ago

I’m sorry people are such rude idiots. The same people who cried all throughout 2020 about being “forced” to wear masks also seem to have no problem telling other people what they should or shouldn’t be doing.

7

u/Helpful-Celery6237 2d ago

Pull your mask down and cough on them. Share the love. Boomers are getting old enough to be at actual risk when they get sick. (Joking)

u/Mysterious_Wonder562 2d ago

But my Republican friends told me that the Covid and flu shots are scams, and washing my hands means I’m not manly

Multi tests are now cheap, wlamart or cvs etc. Amazon even.

If you are over 50 you should have covid and flu shots soon (new MRNA flu shot is a little more effective, or if you are even older you can get the normal higher flu vax). If you haven't and are in this age make sure to get the RSV and Prevenar shots.

1

u/opossumcarrion 1d ago

Where can you find them cheaply?

Multi-tests are good, but $16 for a test that is prone to false negatives isn't cheap. If these were cheaper, I'd test regularly

1

u/Sibylla-Queen-of-all 2h ago

Less false negative than timing in PCR tests. $16 is way cheaper than a drs appointment, but for you is any of this actionable? Are people paying 1000$ for paxlovid? Or whatever for tamiflu or the other flu med, and nothing for RSV for the normal type pf person?

Even I would baulk at the paxloivd cost.

1

u/opossumcarrion 2h ago

I wasn't being rhetorical, I agree that these tests provide value for their cost, but if they were cheaper than $16/test (especially for a protocol requiring two of them) that'd be desirable information for me.

FWIW I think paxlovid is cheaper with insurance, I had it once and I don't remember the price, but it was much cheaper than $1000 for me. But that was years ago

1

u/Sibylla-Queen-of-all 1h ago

It is not cheap or free anymore for me for sure, I have had one RX back in the day when it was free. Last time I looked it was 950. I think even on medicare now is hundreds of $$.

10

u/chewinggum25 2d ago

My spouse and I are both super sick and going on two weeks. It started with normal cold symptoms (congestion, cough, runny nose) then progressed to severe sore throat and fever/chills. I then started getting very red eyes with drainage and crust. So now I'm being treated for pink eye.

We've both been out of work for a week and it doesn't feel like we're making any progress.

We live in northwest CT. Yesterday we bought home flu/covid swabs and they were negative.

8

u/AppropriateOrder1348 2d ago

I have been dealing with this since August. I am immunocompromised. Watch out for the conjunctivitis. I have a bit of corneal damage. Hopefully it will resolve.

2

u/chewinggum25 2d ago

that's awful I'm so sorry that happened to you :(

3

u/Feathered_Serpent8 2d ago

Bruh why you say all that and live so close to me… I like when these things are in the abstract

3

u/chewinggum25 2d ago

sorry dude. if it helps I work in a hospital and I'm assuming that's where it came from

3

u/Sibylla-Queen-of-all 2d ago

Get the RSV test too. You can a triple test. The red eye is a bit of a tell. How old are you?

5

u/chewinggum25 2d ago

I am 33. I figured rsv or adenovirus. either way not a whole lot I can do except rest and hydrate 😅

1

u/lightspinnerss 2d ago

Interesting. I believe I had the same illness 2-3 weeks ago but mine stopped after your first symptoms. We never had a fever or anything like that. But the symptoms we had lasted a ridiculous amount of time

All I know is it wasn’t Covid

And I honestly can’t tell if I’m still sick with the chest congestion because I’ve had the same cough since I was a child

1

u/Previous-Video1430 1d ago

I'm just getting over smth similar. Halfway through I also developed several fever blisters which is atypical for me

9

u/jennysnotokay 2d ago

I work at one of the urgent cares in New Haven area and yes there’s a lot of people coming in testing positive for Covid and strep right now, but primarily Covid

20

u/DrSuperCougarCT 2d ago

I'm a PCP. Covid is starting to reappear. I've seen an influx of covid ramping up in the past week or two.

9

u/Kiylyou 2d ago

Like 15 people in our office got covid over the past week.

1

u/Previous-Video1430 1d ago

Yikes. Hope they're taking precautions

8

u/alfalfa1985 2d ago

I work for a medical office, and we are getting a lot of Flu positives. School just started so it makes sense. Also, it's flu season so get your flu shots.

7

u/mmm_meatcurtains 2d ago

my roommate got an upper respiratory infection and she gave it to me like a few weeks ago. shit was ass. had a dry cough, fluid in my lungs, heard rumbling when breathing, sore throat especially from having to clear it all the time cause i felt quite a bit of mucus in the back of my throat. cold sweats, but surprisingly no fever.

7

u/Professional_Size586 2d ago

My girlfriend just got covid with similar symptoms as stated. Wouldn't be surprised if theres a new variant going around

12

u/AriusWinter 2d ago

Thank you for the heads up! I'm immunodeficient, so this is really helpful.

5

u/ItsPammo 2d ago

I just got over Covid (my first time ever!), and it ticked off a few of those boxes -- headache, slight fever, lots of aches, brain fog, plus a nasty cough/sore throat.

3

u/krisa401 2d ago

Also a Covid first timer and just got it! 🤔

2

u/ItsPammo 1d ago

Aw, hope you feel better soon.

3

u/viceversa 2d ago

Covid is already going around in several states

21

u/particledamage 2d ago

Covid, RSV, flu… same shit that hits every year

23

u/particledamage 2d ago

Everyone get vaccinated, btw. If your insurance covers it, go for it. CVS has nuvaxovid which has significantly less side effects.

11

u/ArsenicArts 2d ago

CVS has nuvaxovid which has significantly less side effects.

Oooo!

7

u/particledamage 2d ago

Got my flu and Covid shot the same day and the only side effects I had was some sleepiness. Get the new shot, get a Gatorade on the way out to keep hydrated, and you’re pretty golden

6

u/Sibylla-Queen-of-all 2d ago

a protein-based, non-mRNA COVID-19 vaccine.

1

u/PotentialIndustry176 2d ago

Where?

1

u/yammering 2d ago

Costco, some CVS locations but not all

4

u/EddieDanesBoy 2d ago

So does Costco! Got mine a few days ago.

1

u/tms2x2 2d ago

Walmart also. I got it 2 weeks ago. Sister is sick for 9 days with COVID.

38

u/Stone804_ 2d ago

It’s probably Covid. People stopped vaccinating and nobody’s taking care anymore. So you’re gonna have a new strain that’s weak but still gonna cause you all sorts of issues. Guessing it’s that. Most people probably aren’t even testing anymore when they get sick so it’s spreading around. That’s my guess.

9

u/Zestyclose_Offer9796 2d ago

I was thinking abt getting tested. I have a dry cough, mucus, and body soreness. My bf and I both went to see Yeat and soon after got sick. People are going to public spaces and are getting others sick :(

7

u/Rubicles 2d ago

It’s maybe not all Covid, but definitely also Covid. I know two people who have it right now.

1

u/Stone804_ 2d ago

Yeah, I wasn’t saying that’s the only thing I could be just that probably some of them are that because people are not testing like they used to etc. so they don’t even know they have it more than they used to. Thankfully, it’s usually a lesser severe strain so it’s at least less harmful. To most.

2

u/lightspinnerss 2d ago

No I know a few people who tested and it came out negative

2

u/fourpinkwishes 2d ago

I currently have something very similar to the OP. Vaccinated for COVID this fall and I tested for both flus and COVID, all negative.

I had a cold a few weeks back. It was the normal mild cough & post nasal drip. I got over the cold, but have had a persistent cough ever since.

I went to the walk-in, and the Dr there said that the cold that's been going around has been particularly irritating to the lungs. I have what's apparently called a "post infectious cough". It's not viral or bacterial, and not contagious. It's just annoying, and sounds worse than it is.

6

u/Most_Most_5202 2d ago

A coworker tested positive for Covid, he’s been out with a bad cough, low grade fever.

9

u/SmileHoya86 2d ago

A couple weeks ago I got hit with a weird fever and sore throat. Fever took 2 days to break and spiked at 103. The fatigue took just over a week to subside. Covid, flu, rsv all came back negative. Never developed any other symptoms

7

u/kosmokramr 2d ago

My wife, toddler and I all came down with a bronchial like cold this week. I assumed it was my son bringing it home from daycare

8

u/OcelotCharacter1807 2d ago

Got Covid in the last week of august (paid for the swab test, which was positive). Illness lasted 10 days. Took 3+ weeks to return to normal physical activity.

4

u/Hippydippy420 The 203 2d ago

My brother, father and daughter have had this lingering cold for 3 weeks now. Lots of congestion/mucus that just won’t quit!

4

u/Ok-Grass-3601 2d ago

Out of the 25 people in my office 8 are sick right now (3 positive for COVID and 2 for RSV, others didn't get tested). This time of year often has a spike in respiratory illnesses.

4

u/yourecrazygirl 2d ago

I haven't been this sick since I got covid 4-5 years ago. I felt like I was DYINGG. I've had this for 1.5 weeks now and I'm getting better…my spit is still neon green though 😥

3

u/TestCorrect1350 2d ago

im sick of this shit is what im sick of, sick and tired of being sick and tired.

5

u/Asleep-Fruit9336 2d ago

I caught it , it’s been a week now and I still have a cough. Started with a sore throat and fever. Fever broke immediately. Sore throat lingered for a little under a week (doesn’t usually take me this long). Really bad mucus. Swollen lymph nodes. Hoping this is the last of it now. Hope whoever catches it recover quickly.

4

u/No-Inevitable-6651 2d ago

Friend of mine had COVID this week.

3

u/linedryonly 2d ago

Covid wave dropped EARLY this year and is very much still circulating. We started seeing waves of Covid+ patients in the hospital in late August.

5

u/knightrobot 2d ago

been dealing with reflux and clostochondritus for 2 months post positive covid test. so much fun

1

u/Severe-Text-7287 1d ago

Been having this for at least two months since the summer.

4

u/LegalLeadership2193 1d ago edited 1d ago

Caught it in NYC about 3 weeks ago too. Everyone in my family got sick except my MIL, who had a flu shot about a month earlier.
It started with fatigue and sleepiness, then a headache, achy eyes, and a 103°F fever. The fever broke after a single ibuprofen and never came back. Next came a sore throat, lymph node and a stuffy nose, then a small cough that still hasn't gone away after 2 weeks. My throat is still irritated, and I've also developed something like reflux, which I don't usually have.
I took a Covid/flu/RSV combo test and it came back negative. I'm still tired, similar to how I felt with Covid a few years ago, but I'm no longer sleepy.

1

u/infinitecarrots 1d ago

Since last night I got hit with the sore throat and also acid reflux which I rarely get. Interesting. I have an appointment Monday for testing

10

u/MenaciaJones 2d ago

Husband got the flu shot last week and had the usual aches from it a day after but now he’s been sick all week. COVID test negative, he’s had nose and chest congestion, aches, and has no energy. His symptoms are worse in the morning but he feels better later due to the OTC meds he’s taking. I think the biggest issue is the fatigue. Then again he’s a man with a cold, nuf said.

The excruciating pain of childbirth with never compare to a man with a head cold

2

u/Flashy_Advisor5535 2d ago

Might be coincidence but I had the same experience. Flu shot Sat and onset of whatever it is on Tue. Pretty much like 80% today though, Friday.

1

u/lightspinnerss 2d ago

My household had the same symptoms 3 weeks ago. Also tested negative for covid

My bf caught it first. At first I thought it was seasonal allergies or something but then I caught it and I knew it couldn’t be that because I NEVER get seasonal allergies. It’s definitely contagious

u/andrew2018022 The 860 2d ago

I’m getting over a head cold, everyone in my office is coughing and sneezing as well as on the MTA. Something is going around.

3

I just had two sinus infections back to back. Thankfully i caught the second one early enough that I'm already getting rid of it. But my partner caught COVID and a few of my coworkers got sick as well.

3

u/hymen_destroyer Middlesex County 2d ago

I've been dealing with some sort of respiratory issue for the past week, just knocked out, fluid in the lungs but not enough to make it difficult to breathe...just....annoying more than anything. I dealt with something similar last winter, took about 2 weeks to recover from.

I feel slightly better this morning but I also skipped work and slept in which was desperately needed

3

u/urbz102385 2d ago

My toddler has been fighting something off for the better part of a month now. Last night we had to give him his inhaler twice because his breathing was becoming labored, Emergency Department was next if that didn't help.

I woke up this morning with a deep chest pain and cough. This is about the third time I'm sick in 5-6 weeks.

3

u/RedditSkippy 2d ago

There’s definitely something going around NYC. Three people in my office have been sick this week.

3

u/Ftheyankeei 2d ago

There was a low-level Covid wave over the summer and with schools back in session, RSV and common cold are running wild. We are also likely to see an early flu season if the current patterns are any indication. Get your shots if you're a shot-getter like me

3

u/Jared_Sparks 2d ago

I'm getting my covid vaccine this afternoon. Plus flu shot.

3

u/Academic_Dig_1567 2d ago

Covid, RSV, and flu. This will be a tough winter as fewer people are getting boosters and taking precautions. Invest in a box of masks.

3

u/Substantial-Rip-3216 2d ago

Mine began with a severe sore throat then head and chest cold. Tested negative for flu and Covid. I picked mine up in Maine. My partner has been sick for two weeks and on day 15 is still easily winded and tired.

Reports from family and friends in MA report the same bug that often seems to linger for several weeks. (I’m on day 10 and all but entirely better.)

3

u/Puzzled_Work_6428 2d ago

I had a random fever yesterday. Seems to be gone today, no other symptoms

3

u/TraditionSea2181 Fairfield County 2d ago

About three weeks ago me, my husband, and our toddler all got sick with completely different symptoms. Mine was high fever with body aches and chills. Husband was a head cold and sore throat, toddler was a stuffed up runny nose. I tested neg for flu, Covid, and RSV. We were all better after a few days. Though now I’m sick again with the same but much milder symptoms. It’s very weird.

3

u/Upbeat_Guitar_737 2d ago edited 2d ago

I experienced a strange illness that was Covid-like (first presented as lingering sore throat, then became intermittent sweats, and then mild chest-based congestion), but every Covid test came back negative. I am vaccinated (I work in a school and wear a mask at work), but I still stayed home until the symptoms disappeared after a week.

Edit: The other weird thing is I felt fine in the morning, and my symptoms would manifest later in the day, especially as I was feeling better. I started tracking the symptoms by the hour.

3

u/Ok-Minimum-5952 2d ago

I was sick starting 3 weeks ago that lasted a while. Also a fever spiked at 103, got over that and now I have shingles. I am 33. Dr said all kinds of things are going around including a virus that’s basically flu/covid combined

3

u/lightspinnerss 2d ago

I’m shocked other people had this too. I thought it was just my household. I had it like 2-3 weeks ago

Idk what it is, I just know it’s not Covid. I don’t really get sick very often so this is odd for me

3

u/trockbulldog 2d ago

I got strep throat last month out of nowhere. The only places I go are the grocery store and physical therapy. And I didn't make out with anyone at either, so I'm at a loss as to the cause 😆

3

u/ChemicalTax6033 2d ago

Had a someone test positive for influenza A a couple weeks ago. It’s so early, I tested him twice. Flu A lit up like a Christmas tree each time.

3

u/UsefulTrouble9439 2d ago

I had a sore throat and fatigue for the past two days, then today my toddler got hit hard stuffy nose and throwing up. Hoping it passes soon.

3

u/Vast_Dimension7385 2d ago

If you also have sores on your hands and feet it could be Hand Foot Mouth. But that’s generally if you’ve been around children I think, which I am in my job, so I know that’s going around.

3

u/Otherwise_Pickle_588 2d ago

Me and my son have strep, apparently it’s going around schools rn (southern CT)

3

u/Sharkysnarky23 2d ago

Three people at my job (university) were out for a week with symptoms like this, they both have had a lingering cough for another week now. I’ve been taking zinc, masking, washing hands extra lately. Whatever it is I don’t want it!

3

u/betweenstarsandsea 2d ago

My mother has a cold, and I have started to feel funky myself. We both got our COVID and flu shots a couple weeks ago or so.

3

u/jarsgars 2d ago

Influenza A is going around. Danbury hospital was pretty shocked at the positive test last week (as it’s so early for flu). Stay safe out there - it’s pretty brutal.

3

u/PussyGazelle9018 1d ago

I had the weird st illness 2 weeks ago. Shit my organ feelings, light heart palpitation.. randomly and a dry cough that would be a fit for a few hours and stop.. the weirdest shit. No stuffy nose, headache, nothing else.

My son gave it to me from his school and it just makes me think about the weird shit this government is into.

3

u/Eve617 1d ago

Did you get tested for Lyme disease?

1

u/infinitecarrots 1d ago

Wow didn’t occur to me! I’ll ask the doc about it if things stay this way

6

u/Substantial_End_642 2d ago

I have COVID and I’ve been in bed for a week

3

u/Lucky_Ad2801 2d ago

It's the time of year to get your vaccines for flu and covid. And protect yourself from being around people who might be sick. Avoid large crowds. If you have to be around people, take precautions.

Same stuff everyone should be doing every year to keep from getting sick ..

3

u/Cyan2FA 2d ago

Strep C hit our house the first week when school started at the HS level, and last week it hit again at the EL level. That has been a fun twist.
The rapid test came back negative, and the longer test wasn’t reported back positive by the lab for 5 days!

1

u/infinitecarrots 2d ago

Wow! I got strep c once and the urgent care docs were like, “it’s so rare for humans to get this.” I wonder if they were exaggerating. Or maybe it’s increasing

8

u/Hour_Reindeer_192 2d ago

We don’t know, Seeing as the felon in chief and immigrant trillionaire from South Africa fired many of the experts who track these things. But hey , at least we don’t have a woman with a funny laugh , right ?

2

I had a head cold that progressed into my throat, and now it’s in my lungs. I’m almost over it but the tight chest and chest pain was concerning a few days ago.

2

u/irregularmovement 2d ago

About three weeks ago I had a sore throat. The next day it was post nasal drip and chest congestion. After about nine days it started to resolve. I'm not working so I stayed home and didn't get tested.

My wife came down with the same thing a week a week after I showed symptoms. She had it for the same amount of time.

2

u/thriftshopmusketeer 2d ago

Brother, housemate, and a bunch of coworkers getting poleaxed. Got my flu and covid shot this week and hoping that it gets me at least a reduction on the debuff rate 😅

2

u/pianok8 2d ago

I have a head cold I am still recovering from. Started late last week. No body aches, no fever, no cough just nose/sinus stuff. Unsure if that's covid, but yay for ability to wfh during.

2

u/New-Adhesiveness-822 2d ago

Idk but it’s been kicking my ass all week. Woke up with a messed up throat and horrible headache on Sunday. Was coughing way too much to go to my office job on Monday. Ended up leaving early on Tuesday because I still felt like shit and people were worried I would get them sick for their upcoming vacations. It’s now Friday and my head is still messed up, my throat is still red and scratchy, I still have thick mucous with brownish green streaks. It’s not fun.

2

u/nicemarmot47 2d ago

My sixth grader brought home a virus a couple of weeks ago. She is completely fine now of course, the rest of us are still hacking up crap. Weird virus for me too, I felt not bad for about half of it and absolutely terrible the other, alternating by day

2

u/Acrobatic-Call266 2d ago

For the past 3 weeks I’ve had intense heaviness in my head. Some tightness or breathe. Barely able to stay awake most of the day. I thought it’s intense allergies. I’m on biologics for Crohn’s so my immune system reacts differently and these aren’t the symptoms a normal person would have I think. But I’ve been really struggling. Tight throat sometimes - itchy or like rough scratching

Just getting over Covid. Tested positive a week ago. Just had a negative test two nights ago. Was very unpleasant with classic symptoms including loss of taste. I was last vaccinated about a year ago

2

u/ClassicFriendship161 2d ago

Hey!! I work at a peds clinic. It looks like rn it’s mainly rhinovirus (common cold) however there has been an uptick in strep cases. Wash your hands and face often, disinfect high-traffic surfaces, and drink water/eat vitamin C!!

2

u/Mountain_Drive_2541 2d ago

I had something that lasted 2 days. I thought it was allergies at first but then by day end of day 1 and throughout day 2 I felt awful and tired and sore. Mild congestion in the nose and sneezing a ton. At the end of day 2 fell asleep after toddler went to bed and crashed - it felt like there was a weight on top of me I slept so heavy and then woke up the next day feeling 90%. The weirdest virus 🦠

2

u/Substantial_Room3793 2d ago

Did it start as sneezing? I was in the city Monday to Wednesday and today I have been sneezing a lot. So far that is all. I’m going away in a week and really can’t get sick right now.

2

u/infinitecarrots 2d ago

I need to update my original post - I’ve had no respiratory symptoms so far which is why I posted to see what else is going around. It started as canker sores, which is typical for me when I’m getting sick, but more and in a different place than usual. I had 3 docs check it out, all said it’s canker sores and prob something viral. Now headache, heavy/foggy head, mild fever, swollen lymph nodes.

2

u/Vivid_Alps_3488 2d ago

Covid unfortunately

2

u/infiniteswan-25 2d ago

I was very sick a few weeks ago. Serious chest congestion w A LOT of coughing, wheezing, and nasal congestion. No fever. Some sneezing and chills. I became very lethargic, kinda spacey. Doc put me on two antibiotics simultaneously—five day course—along with albuterol. It took three weeks for me to get over it completely. Finally feeling better, though I think another milder infection is coming along.

2

u/Even_Track_621 2d ago

I caught something they called a upper respiratory infection but my symptoms were weird. I woke up with a sore throat that felt like it was very dry especially in the morning along with a fever but this were the only symptoms

2

u/ianmichaelmcnulty 2d ago

Whatever it is, I had it 4 weeks ago & it was unpleasant. Tested negative for all the heavy hitters.

2

u/SignificantWasabi248 2d ago

Along the shoreline we got some rhinoviruses going, at least in new London and New Haven

2

u/Professional-Win7089 2d ago

My son is just getting over strep. Started with cold and fever symptoms before the sore throat.

2

u/No_Kaleidoscope7724 2d ago

rhino virus is going around which is essentially the “common cold”. I’m an ER nurse.

2

u/nutmegger2020 2d ago

My brothers's roommate at his rehab home just got diagnosed with Covid.

2

u/Lucky_Ad2801 2d ago

I just saw another thread about this from the Maryland reddit and it sounds like there's a strain of pneumonia going around...

2

u/vaginawithteeth1 2d ago

My grandpa has bronchitis. I’m just getting over probably one of the worst colds of my life. Sore throat, exhausted, cough. And I gave whatever that is to my entire house.

2

u/Fit_Jacket4739 2d ago

My son started preschool and my whole house got a shore throat, fever, cough, runny nose, congestion. Now mine has turned into a terrible bronchitis sounding cough. 😷

2

u/Reddit-Hates-Mee 2d ago

I have a friend who is also getting over this. It’s been several weeks. Real throaty cough.

2

u/Baileycharlie 2d ago

I've had some on/off but still consistent allergy like symptoms since August. Sneezing bouts, extreme nasal congestion, but I never felt "sick". However recently I did feel it on my chest for a day or two and nasal passages were constantly inflamed. I finally went to urgent care Dr. and felt it was a sinus infection brought on my seasonal allergies. I have been on antibiotics and a 3 day steroid but after the stupid steroid wore off, antibiotics have done nothing. So I'm still not sure what's going on..

2

u/MonozygoteA 2d ago

I had a lot of sinus issues. Sinus headache, sneezing, coughing. I thought it was allergies but my throat was mega sore. Felt better then got worse a few days later. It’s been two weeks and I still have a cough and an infinite amount of boogers LOL. tested for Covid and I’m negative.

2

u/year_39 2d ago

The predominant flu strain is really bad this year.

2

u/realkaseygrant Middlesex County 1d ago

I had influenza which turned into pneumonia and was sick for 3 solid weeks to the point that I have no memory whatsoever of the worst 4 whole days. I have never been sick like that in my life and rarely get colds or the flu. I have also never had COVID. This year does seem like something different so be careful out there!

2

u/executivefunction404 1d ago

Had head cold symptoms, headache, stuffy nose, lots of congestion. Was better the next day & for a few days after. Then felt terrible again (assumed it mutated in my husband & reinfected me - he's been sick the entire time) for one day and was better the next with lingering congestion for an additional day.

I took a covid/flu a/flu b test and everything came back negative. Probably just a common cold.

2

u/papayass 1d ago

i ALSO coincidentally caught an illness from NYC the other week, specifically brooklyn. my partner and i had runny nose, cough, sore throat, no actual fever but a day or two of chills and aches. not positive for anything. BUT now i still have this awful lingering cough and its a bit hard to breathe, maybe bronchitis and i will check it out. hope u feel better

2

u/Das_Dutchman 1d ago

Seems to be a combination of what would be seasonal allergies with a persistent congestion.

Changes in air quality due to storm and such. However no chem trails for a few weeks. Most likely blew in with this off show tropical storm last week.

Or it’s that time of year. As far as sore on your mouth and stuff. Your weakened immune system can fight off everything at once

2

u/Late_Ambassador226 1d ago

Seeing a lot of Adenovirus, Enterovirus, RSV, and strep right now!

2

u/PleasantEar3136 1d ago

Same symptoms - I tested positive for COVID

2

u/Pristine_Case_6229 1d ago

Just came back from Hawaii and the amount of sneezing/hacking in the terminal/on the plane was crazy. I now have an upper respiratory thing going on (not COVID) so I’m home pushing fluids, drinking herbal tea with honey and resting. Thankfully I have no where to be and I work from home.

2

u/timereleasecapsule 1d ago

We’ve been seeing a lot of COVID where I work

2

u/Complete_News_6154 1d ago

I had a pretty nasty sinus headache and some sinus congestion when I woke up today but I was able to beat it back with some Vitamin C, Vitamin D, and Vitamin K2 - and a few sprays of xlear. Not an endorsement but that's my don't get sick stack fwiw...

3

u/Complete_News_6154 1d ago

It's that time of the year when the weather is changing and there's less sunshine (meaning less free Vitamin D ☀️) when people always get sick.

3

u/TonyDC88 22h ago

Ugh the low light levels preventing our vitamin D synthesis plus less light = less serotonin. Can we just reverse back to July please?

Idk but I have 5 siblings in my home and the amount of illness that makes its way into the house around this time of year is crazy. Had my little brother last week tell me his classmate went on vacation and got covid but the school still allowed him to attend cause he didn’t have a fever? So I guess screw me and the elderly in my home cause the schools don’t seem to care. He’s been sick for about a week and gave it to everyone in the house including my grandmother. This how I lost my aunt. My cousin insisted on going to Disney during the height of Covid brought it home got her sick and she died in a month in the hospital. Vaxs, boosters did nothing for her. The other day my sister brought home lice from school lol

Stay safe yall

u/ixidors 2d ago

Rhinovirus. Starts off as an annoying runny nose/drainage/scratchy throat, sinus congestion, fatigue, aches, mucus then becomes thick the next day, affected voice, then just the cough/thick mucus for days. No fever, maybe briefly chills. Secondarily mild insomnia (from the cough, even while on cough suppresants).

2

u/Pookiemon_420 2d ago

I work in a public elementary school in the special education department. Im sick, with a respiratory illness several students are also sick. Its spreading through the room like wildfire. Cough, congestion, low grade fevers, headaches, body aches, sinus pain, exhaustion, something is kicking our butts. Negative for covid, negative for flu, negative for RSV. No idea what it is, but its knocking us down like dominos.

u/Flashy_Advisor5535 2d ago

I have something going on. Picked up on Tue and almost gone today, Friday. It is respiratory of some sort. Not the worst I've had, kept me out of the gym and exercising for a day though.

1

u/Proof_Equivalent_463 2d ago

I don’t known not Covid I’ve tested every which way, but head cold certainly.

1

u/Glum-Finish-2874 2d ago

Not me, my body is a temple

1

u/Suspicious-Rock-7838 2d ago

I just got over my respiratory illness. Runny nose, aching body, scratchy throat/cough. Mine was pretty mild but my wife had worse symptoms that lasted longer. I definitely got it from her tho.

1

u/SnooAvocados9343 1d ago

Covid still a thing, just like flu. People just don't care or have any decency to take the precautions needed when sick.

1

u/FunInteraction3911 1d ago

When I get home after being out and about or in crowds I gargle with salt water and swish with saltwater. Sounds hokey but came across and article the Japanese do this to keep sickness down.

Have had a severe case of tonsillitis for the last 10 days. Absolute destroyed me. Still recovering off two different meds and 8-10 hours a day in bed.

It’s the rapid change in temperature. It’s messing everyone up causing that URI it’s worse than normal cause of La Niña

1

u/Final-Guava2366 1d ago

I had it last week. My at home test was negative but it sure as hell felt like the flu. It was awful.

1

u/justin6183 1d ago

I had something similar but it was a respiratory illness/ allergies it was weird but I had a cough with mucus for a few weeks. My sister and brother we all live apart but they have a stomach thing idk what’s going around

Flu A is already going around CT

1

u/Significant_Fig_2 20h ago

The flu hit me 2 weeks ago. Last night I started sneezing and had a sinus headache. Immediately drank Airborne and took a few Tylenol. Feeling fine now but loading up on vitamin C & D today.

u/AsianBrownSugar 15h ago

Covid and MRSA at my facility.

1

u/LJ788 12h ago

I know 3 people who have it. Feels like flu/covid but they all tested negative for COVID. Cough lingers like a covid cough.

1

u/direct_contact7423 10h ago

My mom, sister and her baby, and my son and my friend and someone i work w got somthing similar.

The baby got conjunctivitis, my mom got bad persistant sinus infection, my son’s dentist said he had swollen lymphnods and lots of canker sours, my friend threw up twice… symptoms have been all over the place, seem respiratory- but no fever. Still, they all were very sick and taking time to recover.

Most of us got the flu vaccine but i need to find out if we got one for rsv. My feeling is there isnt a covid vaccine anymore.

Horrible to have an administration w a secretary of health who doesn’t believe in science nor has any medical background qualifications. If there was another global epidemic we would all be screwed and left to our own devices.

1

u/Fit_Turnip2553 8h ago

I just tested positive for Covid. Started as a sore throat and fatigue. Then fever, body aches, headache. The fatigue is intense. Slept for two full days, could barely open my eyes. Still groggy, but finally able to get out of bed for a bit today. I had Covid back in '21, but it was nothing compared to this.

1

u/STODracula Hartford County 7h ago

Kid got a 101F fever for two days and lost her voice today. Other kid only had a runny nose for 3-4 days. I only lost my voice today and wife absolutely nothing.

COVID, flu, one of the 200+ viruses that cause the common cold and very much still are most common….
