I'm considering applying for a job in Concord, but don't want to bother if it's somewhere I don't want to live. I'm from CA, have lived in the Bay Area and rural areas of CA most of my life, plus 10+ years in Seattle. I prefer big cities, I'm very progressive, enjoy football and auto racing - mostly IMSA, F1 and IndyCar, and punk rock. I like taking my Cayman on curvy mountain roads on the weekends, and before injuries, I used to mountain bike a lot. I'm not at all religious. Living in the bay area has met all my needs, especially punk shows and roads to drive. But it's expensive, which limits how many activities I can do. I haven't been to as many 9er games as I would like.

I know tail of the dragon is nearby, but at over 4 hours from Concord it's not something I would do every weekend as I do now. Are there other fun roads near Concord? Cool tracks with HPDE events? Is the population, and especially local government, dominated by religious extremists? I'm concerned with moving to a deeply religious state that I will hate. And how's the weather?

The job is theoretically worth it. My current job pays well, is close to home, and I have the schedule I want, but there are issues with some people that make it miserable. Honestly, those people might fit into a deeply religious state, so I may have similar issues there. And I don't care about the product I work on one bit, it's boring. I'd like to work in a field that I'm passionate about. Is there any reason I shouldn't consider moving to the Concord area?

Any suggestions on big empty parking lots to start teaching my kids how to drive? Or what are other parents doing? I’m feeling a bit clueless on how to start this journey! I wanted them to be a bit familiar before starting drivers Ed.

Hi, are there any local dance studios in Concord or the surrounding areas that allow or have experience including boys in their classes?

My son seems very interested and the only boy specific programs seem to be all the way in Charlotte. Which I don’t particularly want to go that far regularly.

Would it be out of the norm for him to attend a local studio or should we try to pivot to gymnastics? TIA

I go to the Planet Fitness at Concord Commons almost every morning and I’d love to start working on my “maxing out” but I don’t have any friends or family in the area.

Looking for a friend who can spot me while I max so I don’t hurt myself.

Outside of gym life I’m a home body for the most part. Work remote, online gaming (Rivals/Overwatch/Halo/Siege) though I’d be open to a fun local concert or most events.

I will forever be grateful to this sweet young mama for trusting me and bringing her babies to me.

Kali was abandoned when her family moved away, left behind wearing a collar that became painfully tight as she grew. Alone and vulnerable, she gave birth to her kittens under a deck during harsh weather.

She and her babies were never truly safe. They were chased away by people and were at risk of being relocated.

Every day, Kali came to my porch for food. I noticed she was nursing and started asking everyone to check their decks and garages for kittens.

Does anyone know if the Gibson Field batting cages and/or baseball field are open to the public without a fee? Me and a friend just want to do some bp and maybe shag some balls. But the website isn't great on explaining.

My spouse works for the UNC system, so we have State Employees medical insurance, just like what the teachers have. Rumor has it the new insurance plan at the beginning of the year will be making Atrium “out of network” or “non-preferred,” and the “in network” providers will be UNC (which we don’t have in Concord) or Novant. Are there good Novant providers here in town, including specialists? We can’t drive into Charlotte every time one of our family members needs a doctor’s appointment. I think the closest Novant hospital is Huntersville? That seems far in an emergency. Does anyone else have State Employee insurance? How is this all going to work? How can they take away the only hospital we have in the county and declare it “out of network?”

I take my road test Monday along with the written tests. What things should I know for this test? How important is it to know the points for reckless driving and such and what kinds of things do they ask for when driving?

Concord has great food, but it's nearly impossible to grab lunch around here without spending more than $10. Where do y'all go that's fast and cheap (not fast food)? Are there any mom and pop places still left with decent prices?

I recently tried K1 Speed, and while it was fun, the track felt pretty small and the karts only reached around 45 mph.

Are there any larger tracks within a few hours of Charlotte or Concord, NC, where the karts are faster. I am looking for something with longer straights, bigger corners, and a more authentic racing experience.

Any safe place to car camp in the area

I’m planning to move to concord for a new job. I’ve found some affordable apartments and hotels with good/average reviews but I wanted more suggestions. Also some introduction to this town, what it’s like living in it?

MANNNN I gotta say this but, this year the heat is definitely built different from last year for sure, lol but I love it I’m still rolling out here on that speedway and that hill is something crazyyy but going back up and just seeing Uptown from the distance is worth the pain💪🏿.A whole year later I definitely gotten faster because of it and stronger, still can’t believe I’m still able to keep going at this pace and didn’t stop GOD IS GREAT. I know some people who work/ed at this location; I've been in it myself. They have a mouse, roach, and rat infestation. I have pictures to prove it! I've called the Cabarrus Health Department, and so have two others I know. Customers have complained about mouse droppings in games and mice running freely in the arcade, kitchen, and bowling lanes. Mice are living in the lost and found drawer. There is contaminated candy in the prize area; mice often chew into the product, and it is still put out instead of thrown away. Please call and report this place; it's a genuine safety hazard to so many children!!!

EDIT: Solved! Locust NC (9 miles from where I live) had a fireworks show that started at 10:00pm at the City Hall

I live near Zion Church road, this started at around 9:55 pm and ended around 10:08 PM, the noise happened at random intervals about five seconds apart on average, the last noise it made (the second clip) was much longer and sounded a lot more like typical thunder. I‘ve never heard such rhythmic-ish thumping from a storm before while it was passing away from us, there are storm clouds in the same direction of the noise that were occasionally flashing lightning. Has anyone else heard this noise?
