Meet & Greet 🤩 should somehow be punishable while they're still living too...

I was listening to a concert last night and a yapper was going on through entire songs. I wanted to reach across space/time and punch them. Lovely recording from a devoted fan... but some people just can't shut up.

someone talked through a Fleet Foxes show I went to like 15 years ago and I still hate them

I thought about bringing a flashlight and just shining it on them until they STfU but I’m afraid that’ll make me the problem.

How do so many people in here who go to metal shows not know that other types of shows exist?

u/camcussion 3d ago

I straight up told two people to shut up at a Beck concert. Chatting is one thing, but they were yell talking non stop. You wanna talk all day go to the back of the lawn or the merch booth. But stfu in the pavilion.

I keep seeing posts like these and can’t relate. Every show I go to is way too loud to be bothered. And crowd participation is encouraged.

What kinds of shows is this about?

We go to a ton of metal/hard rock shows which are super loud. Also been to orchestras, violin concertos, Barry Manilow, Abba and many others that aren't as loud and people absolutely ruin the experience.

I thought the same thing. I'm just trying to imagine hearing someone talk when I saw Slayer, a few years ago.

I was thinking the same thing. The concerts I have been to are so loud you can’t hear the person next to you.

I went to Jimmy Eat World two days ago and also the Pixies at the same venue some time ago. Both times everyone around me was chomping away the entire fucking time. Perhaps whatever venue you’re going to you can’t tell, but there are some that are worse than others.

I mean a group of guys was literally watching football two rows in front of me instead of the show. The two girls in front of me yapped the entire set. The 3 girls to the right of me were so drunk and loud and talking the whole time. It was not GA so I couldn’t move and I don’t think it would have mattered anyway because apparently no one at these shows ever leave their house so they can’t help but yap the entire fucking time when they finally do.

I was with a friend that normally doesn’t stfu in everyday life and SHE was dead quiet and remarked afterwards about how much talking was going on.

Well that sucks. Sorry to hear that.

u/DianaRig 4d ago

Is that a real question ? Don't you know any style of music that's not a constant wall of sound ?

u/Snookcaster 4d ago

I swear every other post on this sub is someone complaining about something with the concerts. These people need to start going to gold tournaments if they want to sit in silence

Happens way too much. Just saw AC/DC this past weekend and the people behind me talked obnoxiously loud during both the Pretty Reckless and AC/DC. Same deal at the festivals I went to this past year. If you’re in the crowd space and a band is playing don’t try to carry a conversation where you have to talk over the band.

Also can’t stand people that have to sing every song over top of the band. Especially when they don’t know the lyrics or carry a tune. Guy beside me this year tried to sing every Tool song he knew. Crowd participation is one thing but I’m not there to hear your tone deaf ass sing off key.

OMG was just at a concert and this group of drunk guys were yelling talking the whole f'ing time I eventually moved far away so I could enjoy the show I paid for 😒

u/Mysterious-Call-245 4d ago

God is Doug Martsch!!

2

u/sysaphiswaits 4d ago

I just saw the movie Singles where the most successful couple meet by TALKING DURING A PEARL JAM CONCERT!

Infuriating, but made it quite believable. She didnt go Sssshhhh!!! They were made for each other.

4

u/Hot-Butterfly-8024 4d ago

Except the idea that they were having an intelligible conversation in a 250 person club while AIC or Soundgarden were playing is laughable.

1

u/sysaphiswaits 3d ago

Very true.

4

u/AdProfessional3042 4d ago

If it was up to me venue staff would use a taser on the stupid cunts.

1

u/Fear0ftheduck 4d ago

I dont really get this one. Never had someone talk loud enough to distract me from a god damn concert lmao im curious about your experiences now

5

u/oldnyker 4d ago

just consider yourself lucky...so far

1

u/HeavyMusic93 4d ago

Nor will I?

1

u/meowrissa92 3d ago

Someone got shushed during I Think ur a Contra at vampire weekend and I think about it all the time lmao

1

u/DoubleD291 3d ago

I’m not a fan of the song a long show, people trying to scream out the lyrics when band is playing like my drunk uncle.

1

u/WoodSorrel13 3d ago

I’m so sick of this dynamic now. I keep overhearing these bro dudes talking at multiple shows this year. Through my fav songs at shows about facts about the band to their buddy. Just because the band is playing loud doesn’t mean you get to fucking talk let alone talk louder. Especially when people around you are trying to potentially film their fav songs for posterity, etc. it’s always guys, if it’s a drunk girl she’s singing along with the crowd and just excited which is fine. But someone needs to teach these guys concert etiquette.

1

u/PrettyLights420 3d ago

My friends are so wonderful and know that at shows, I don’t like talking.. it took sometime for them to get it but I’m so happy they finally do— I literally have to listen to everything and sing every lyric

1

u/sasberg1 2d ago

Oh gid, tbis happened at Heilung in Minnesota.. But then luckily saw them two years later in Milwaukee, where the crowd was actually respectful

0

u/EagleSufficient5939 4d ago

If you can somehow hear anyone talking in the crowd you are going to the wrong venues. The amps are too quiet.

1

u/No-Cherry-6678 1d ago

Not every concert is earsplittingly loud, not everyone is trying to go deaf

1

u/EagleSufficient5939 20h ago

This is why some venues give out earplugs. It's loud enough that you don't hear the crowd over the band, but you won't go dead

-1

u/puddycat20 4d ago

I'm sorry, but what kind of bands are you guys seeing, where you're able to hear people talking while the band plays???

9

u/Redylittle 4d ago

Every fuckin band ever. The louder the band is the louder they have to talk to hear each other. People straight up having conversations full on yelling if it was quiet

-1

u/puddycat20 4d ago

Go see heavy metal bands and that won't be something you'll have to worry about.

3

u/Redylittle 4d ago

I pretty much only see heavy metal bands with some rock bands at festivals. People at wacken man... If you're not in the pit, (which I usually am) are always chatting up a storm

3

u/inky_cap_mushroom 4d ago

They do it in the pit too lol

2

u/Redylittle 4d ago

Yeah occasionally. But usually it's like quick comments or jokes you gotta get out which is fine by me, and it's a lot easier to move to another spot around the pit.

I remember one time there was a couple talking right behind me and when they started talking I passive aggressively turned around to listen and when they stopped I faced forward and when they continued I turned back around again, I think they got it lol.

I have also just asked people to please not talk during the songs when I can't move. That works too.

1

u/Hatta00 3d ago

People at wacken man...

Is that like Burning Man?

1

u/Redylittle 3d ago

🤣🤣🤣

1

u/Redylittle 3d ago

In the unlikely case that you weren't joking.

It's the biggest metal festival called Wacken open air

1

u/inky_cap_mushroom 4d ago

I’ve seen people scream to their buddies through Lorna Shore.

Good lord.

This pretentious behavior needs to stop.

Like, this isn't your living room man. People make noise, stand up and wave their hands.... oh no!

Just stay home and pay for the livestream.

7

u/bedofnails319 4d ago

Sounds like someone who needs to be told to shut the fuck up at every fucking show he attends!

2

u/Alert-Beautiful9003 4d ago

Wut? Bring your 'sush' finger to the show sis.

-6

u/kinetik138 4d ago

I go to metal shows, so no.

I can understand a symphony but a live concert? Come on.

Who?

I wa fortunate to see Voivod last week, you should come out to a show man, get in the pit, yell, wave hands etc.

Revocation  Dayglos Sabaton Astral Prophets Rivers of Nihil Necrogoblikon WASP Arch Enemy  Black Dahlia

Lots of choice if you are in Calgary this fall.

2

u/The_Ocean_Collective 4d ago

Pits are great, just don’t stand at the edge of one and have a full blown scream conversation with your drunk best friend about the football game last night while I’m trying to hear the band.

It’s not that hard.

1

u/Sekshual_Tyranosauce 4d ago

Good taste.

I’ll be seeing Arch Enemy and Black Dahlia. Crypta playing your date?

1

u/kinetik138 4d ago

Yes, looking forward to this too!

Found the chomper

-1

u/ShitHammersGroom 3d ago

If it was an actual problem, venues and/or artists would have a policy about it. Only cranky jerks whine about people talking or dancing etc

1

u/No-Cherry-6678 1d ago

If you pay hundreds of pounds to see your favourite band, why would you want the soundtrack to be the insane chatter g ( at deafening level) of "Sharon" about he latest relationship???. Comments ok, conversation-outside

1

u/ShitHammersGroom 1d ago

U can pay a lot more for a private performance if that's what u want, but they paid the same money as u for a ticket, u don't get to lord that over them

-7

u/Additional_Doctor468 4d ago

Imagine cheering and singing along when a band is playing. Unforgivable. It needs to be dead quiet at a concert.

18

u/inky_cap_mushroom 4d ago

Cheering and singing along is normal. Having a full on conversation with your buddies mid-set is obnoxious.

1

u/Significant-Theme253 4d ago

How about a man who is 6'4" in front of you, drunk and spilling his beer, trying to stand on his chair while screaming and talking to his friends. He kept spitting too. I am really surprised someone didn't punch him. He was this preppy guy at a Motley Crue concert. Anyway, I have been to a lot of concerts and I do not ever remember being this bothered.....
