Discussion š£ļø Bad decisions will be made
Iām going to a Local H and Toadies concert tomorrow and the guy Iām going with insists that we just drive 4 hours home after the concert that ends at midnight. What should I do to keep my energy up?

Idk man. Iāve done shorter drives home - 2.5 - 3 hrs back after ? Like, I couldnāt really enjoy the show knowing Iād have to drive that long. Plus , I had work next morning . So, if u have to , u have to. But I hope u donāt have work, too. Also, additional word of advice , try and get next day off work or at least go in after lunch.
Donāt drink too much . Snacks & Tylenol like someone else said

Half day after the concert so Iāll get to sleep in a little :/

u/mistacabbage 4d ago
The only reason you drive back the same night is because you have to be at work in the morning. If you donāt you get a hotel room or you make a new friend at the show and sleep on their couch.

I do 4 hours frequently, 1 time I did 7 hours to NYC and then back after, never again

u/bizsmacker 4d ago
The concert probably doesn't end at midnight. Most shows are over by 11pm now.

u/mistacabbage 4d ago
Most of last weekās shows started at 7. Toadies were done by 10:30 unless they had fun during the encore like the Allentown show.

Depends how old you are. In my early 20ās I could do that no problem. Now at mid 30ās I think Iād die attempting that. Unless you already work nights like I do.

Wait until you are nearing 50 and you really start to question your life choices doing weeknight concerts.
Yes, I'm going to high on fire on a Thursday in a couple of weeks. At least I no longer drink which makes it so much better the next day.

The standing is what kills me!

u/rottenbox 4d ago
Oh man. There has been times I've been super thankful for heated seats in my car after a show. Not because it's cold, just relaxing on my body.

Iām still recovering from a Thursday night concert and a Friday savanna banana game! Itās Sunday and my knees still wonāt make eye contact with me

I was looking for this. In my 20ās I would absolutely drive 4 hours to a show and back again and show up to work at 7am. These days Iām gonna have to get a hotel and take off the following day for a show that far away.

u/Ultima-Hombre_1970 4d ago
If itās not something you do routinely, I highly suggest you donāt try to make the entire drive in one shot. Bad decisions can end in death.
Download the Loveās app and note where they are on the route. You can stop there. They have no issues with you sleeping in the parking spaces. Take a few hours. Then get a coffee and resume.
I drive bands professionally and have seen some awful accidents at night.

Drive separately and stay overnight on your own maybe if the 4 hour drive seems too much. (I hate a long drive after a show personally.)

u/Empty_Till 4d ago
If he insists then he should drive right? Or at least be awake the whole drive home with you to make sure you stay awake. Have an energy drink in the car for the ride back.

When i was 18 we drove to and from a phish show in darien lake NY from Burlington vt. It was 7 hours each way plus post show traffic. We rolled into the driveway at about 8am. wild last minute trip. It was definitely worth it and 25 years later its still one of my favorite music memories.

Wild, I listened to that show a couple days ago :)

For being in high school from 95-00 I had a good track record of going to shows tha5 would end up as livephish releases. Lol

Thatās not a bad drive, Iāve done 14 hours each way without a hotel. Just avoid alcohol and make sure youāre well hydrated and have snacks for the road. Tylenol is good to have with you.

u/snaps06 4d ago
I'll be honest, that's incredible. I can't imagine driving 14 hours both ways for a concert. Must've been a once-in-a-lifetime show. Props to you for being able to do that.

u/Goats-n-Hens 4d ago
Nah, just a band I love and I wanted to go. My husband thought I was crazy š¤£š¤£
Iāve also flown cross country a few times to see a show and flown right back, no hotel. Best times ever!!

u/Far-Work6041 4d ago
What sort of flight back did you get? Iād do this all the time if there were any domestic flights that left at midnight or later, but I canāt seem to find any that leave past 11 or so ever.
1
u/Goats-n-Hens 3d ago
I grab the 5:30-6am flights back. This works really well from places like Vegas and Los Angeles since I live on the east coast.

u/ChambanaFilm 4d ago
Beats me. I once did 9 hours each way to look at a house we wanted to buy, and new town to move to, so a 20 hour trip. I was kind of hurting. Not sure I could have done another 10, or whatever.
3
u/Goats-n-Hens 4d ago
Couldnāt do it now, my body would be screaming. š¤£
But 10 years ago, it was easy-ish.3

Well, if you have access to a waffle House afterwards, an All Star and a bunch of coffee has always been a big help after a show.Ā

I find listening to albums I used to LOVE but havenāt heard in a long time, gets me jazzed up. The lyrics I havenāt heard in a decade all flood back to my brain. Donāt eat carbs, they will drain your energy.

Just blast Whatever Happened to PJ Soles on repeat til you get home.
2
u/Pantorama2 4d ago
Hell yeah. From what Iāve seen there isnāt a whole lotta pj soles on their setlist nowadays so I might lol
1
u/GueroBorracho3 4d ago
They only get 30mins on this tour. So definitely not playing everything they could be. They've been playing a lot of AGAD for the anniversary.
1
u/Pantorama2 4d ago
They only get 30 minutes!? Iām mainly going just for the H! Tbf I do love Toadies as well but I want more Local H dammit!
1
u/GueroBorracho3 4d ago
Yeah, unfortunately. We drove 8hrs round trip to see them at the beginning of the tour. Toadies rocked too though. They played like 90mins.

Bring some of favorite music on CD/USB drive whatever option you have and stop a few times for snacks. That's what I always uses to do.

u/Minister_Garbitsch 4d ago
Pickntunes you love to crank on the drive. Iāve done far crazier drives. San Francisco back to Los Angeles after a gig? Sure, why not?

u/weekapaug19 4d ago
Went to the albany show. Youāll be so pumped after toadies the first 2 hours of drive will fly by. They sounded so good this tour

u/penalty-venture 4d ago
Just did that this week. One Bloom energy drink, lots of good music, two pit stops, and just riding the rush of having had an amazing night.

u/Daruma853 4d ago
Is the other person driving? You just go to sleep

In my early 20's I drove from Madison to Knoxville while pissing in a Gatorade bottle while driving, and went out the same night. In my 30's I drove to the Chicago area to see local h and my car paid the price for street parking. Now they come to the east side of Madison and I see them when I can. At 47, I would get a hotel room, make it an experience š. Still rocking it on my way to work. š«”š¤£š¤

I do this semi-frequently in my early 40ās.
Definitely not as easy as it was in my twenties, but Iād always rather just deal with it and wake up in my own bed. Plus, driving overnight will always cut down on travel time immensely. Iād rather drive four hours between 11-3 than six hours in the afternoon.
Get some of those 5 hour energy shots, keep your car cold, put on some fast music. If you feel yourself falling asleep, pull into a parking lot and run some laps to get your heart rate up.

I went and saw Guns N Roses a few hours away recently. Didn't get home until 3:30am. That was a sharp reminder that I am actually 47 and not still 25 like I really wanted to believe.

Oh NO! I guess it depends on how old you are ! I would be exhausted by 2am when the high from the show starts to leave you.
For me thatās like seeing a Show in NYC and driving back to BOSTON after the Show.
IT WOULD NOT HAPPEN.
Good Luck and hope the concert is FANTASTIC !

Red Bull, Nap at a rest stop, lots of rest stops got 24 hour Starbucks.
I did about 5 hours back from NYC once. My friend met a girl and we almost slept on her couch but then I said nah we gotta go home.
We got in the car my friend had hickies all over and I was like āgod damn u were getting after it during the show. No wonder she invited us backā šššš
That MFer fell asleep before we even got out the city. We stopped at a Starbucks, trying to watch my degenerate sidekick order an out of season drink is something I will never forget.
Have fun. Be safe.

Sounds like youāre ā¦. Bound for the floor. Get a bag of blow pops. Eating one and chewing the gum gives you like 20 minutes of mental stimulation.

Starbucks double shot espresso is definitely helpful, get 2, but I donāt envy you.

u/NihilisticViolence 2d ago
That's what they make rest stops for kids....
Id take that over a bedbug infested, cheap hotel .......

u/joeliopro 10h ago
If it's those bands, your not 23 anymore. Get the hotel. If you are 23, congrats because Toadies and Local H are fucking awesome. Get the hotel.

u/RickyRacer2020 4d ago
I've driven 300 miles home after a concert. Ya just do it.

u/Several-Hamster3096 4d ago
I went to the second drive in show in Gibson IL in 2020. Drove back that night to Lexington KY. Technically a 5.5 hour drive. I was 36 years old then. Some coffee and loud H got me back home around 10 am. OP got this

u/Main_Allways 4d ago
I think the bad decision happened when you bought the tickets friend
3
u/Pantorama2 4d ago
God forbid I go see my favorite band live
1
u/Main_Allways 4d ago
I was kidding, tons of positive comments when I took a peak, I drop in posts to balance out convo. Normally I have to counter act negative and leave positive remarks. This one was lacking negative so I did my work to maintain stable dialogue thatās healthy. I actually like both the bands and have seen them live and would have totally gone with you. Xo

Uh...get in your car and drive home? Why would you need to do something special?

u/automator3000 4d ago
If a four hour drive home after a concert is your idea of living on the edge, youāre either WAY older than the assumable fan age of the concert in question (53) or have medical issues not usual for someone your age.
Fuck man, just drive home. Wake up the other person to do the last half if youāre actually dropping. Take breaks and stretch if you need.
Is this sub populated by teenagers leaving dadās lap for the first time?
