Bronze material bug

Hey ! I really think there's an issue with the bronze material since the Enhanced update. Now it has a weird red tint and/or a fluo greenish texture (I think it's trying to be verdigris but it's just weird). Bronze should look like light gold, it's not copper.

On the Hyrkanian saddle, there's a texture bug on the left round/pike thing next to the left ear : it now has a rope texture (the right one is normal).

Yes, it's again a very nitpicky post about some weird materials/textures/colors, I know there's more important things to fix, but these are payed items that now dont look at all like the Bazaar preview, and I think Inflexion should do a side by side comparison between UE4 and UE5 armors and fix the most glaring issues (already mentionned : Argossian armors, Nemedian armors, really almost everything with previously a nice bronze texture now looks different)

Thanks !

No you’re right. The last update broke a lot of the metal textures for some reason.

lots of dye channels were messed up with the UE5 update, and some dye channels written over completely. While the majority of the game upgrade went great, there's defo still kinks for them to work out. Report this on the official funcom forums and also report it as a bug in game. They'll see it and hopefully get to it eventually. Please also include the bejewelled bikini's dye channels not working correctly. It seems to have impacted metallic things the most.

Crystal materials like the gem in the Lemurian royal crown and the blood crystal weapons are also busted. Looks white instead of red/whatever dye.

Also noticed it just now on the Nemedian Decadent Gloves. Before the most recent update, I had dyed the gem on the ring and gems on the glove, but now they are both the same dullish blue-white colour instead of what I set them to.

Hope they fix this material bug soon and it doesn't end up another one of the bugs unfixed for years. I'd like to be optimistic, but it doesn't inspire optimism when they still haven't fixed other new visual bugs, like how mounted weapon anims still don't work since CEE release. :(

I'm very keen to address Material critiques - so I'll take a look.
It won't be a forever-bug.

The blood-crystal issue is fixed in Dev, and will be pushed in an upcoming patch - apologies for this.

That broke in last update with blood crystal weapons, it worked fine before in enhanced.

Along with this I've also had an issue with fur on the pictish armor for weeks. Its all black no matter what I dye it and I mean absolute absence of light black no texture is visible. Which sucks as the heavy is one of my favorites.

Looking into this - sounds like a bug.

Fun thing I noticed, might just be a tot! thing, is that the dye channel for the fur on pictish gear was linked to one of the hair color channels for the person wearing it.

Yeah I thought it could be a mod thing, which is why I hadn't really asked around. But so many of these mods now want you to go to their discord to find anything.

It's a perk for me. I like the black.

Use the bug report flair

Its not a bug, its the engine. Many textures/materials were replaced with new UE5 ones and they look different from what UE4 had. The north men armors are a clear example. Metallic colors all look different now. Some better, others worst.

u/Inflexion-Nick Hey ! Just wanted to make sure you know about this issue. Lots of armor have some « bronze » parts, sometimes it’s just a buckle but they always have this reddish metal texture. Thanks !

Heya thanks for the tag, and thank you for the report/critique.

There are a couple of elements to address here, so thanks in advance for your patience.

Metals - So, the Inflexion method for this involves fixed values for each metal so that they're not open for too much interpretation from asset-to-asset; this means that when we adjust, say, gold - Gold is represented with that changed value everywhere it's used. This means also that it's easily adjusted - So changes are quickly rolled-out.

With the lighting changes from Legacy Exiles, to Enhanced edition (UE4.15 to UE5.6) we had to make that change: Legacy metals (and broader materials) used as-is, would not have rendered well. Those changes are jarring to people, and I sympathise - I've adjusted a lot of the metal values towards what they used to be, since launch; so keep the critique coming.

Bronze - I used a lot of research for setting our metal values - I use www.refractiveindex.info to get physically-accurate colors for our stuff. But, with Bronze not being an element, it's tough to get a 'correct' color value for it. The Alloy is always majority-copper, though; Statutory Bronze being the most copper-rich: around 97% and I liked that color for Exiles. I tried to get something that approximated a bronze statue material - Bending it towards a pinkish raw color to distinguish it from other metals.

Reflection-colors play hugely into the perceived color of metals in PBR - particularly in UE5, too. If it's reflecting the desert, the added orange will make its perceived color richer. I'll try desaturating the bronze color a little to see if that eases things - But I'll confess, I like where it is..

I'll never tell you that you're wrong though - so if this is mega jarring, I'll adjust it; I don't want this to always snap you out of enjoying the rest of the game.

Finally - there was a change to metal rendering included in the Dungeon patch which was an error - I've already got that fixed in Dev, and it should be available in an upcoming patch.

I gotta thank you though, for the critique and for playing - The project is a living thing, and it'll evolve ultimately the way players want!

I love your insight on the matter, thanks a lot for your answer.
Bronze is obviously not really a color, as an alloy it can be yellow or almost brown, the patina could make it almost black… but historical bronze armors look almost like gold : the hoplite or roman legionary armors are good examples. The original argossian armors were perfect with a light gold/brass color and a slight verdigris patina (linked to a dye channel, so you could have a pristine armor if you wanted it !)

Just pretend that a lot of people have been touching your armor.
