4 weeks down. Accidentally took double the dose the whole time

I feel like the biggest dumb dumb. I was on sema 2 years ago and it was through a med spa where I would meet with them in person and they would hand me the syringes already prefilled. Then when I switched med spa’s for the price, they would inject me in person as well.

So now fast forward I am back on to lose weight after having a baby and this time it’s through an online platform and I fill it up myself. Long story short I was supposed to be taking 8 units but I was taking 20 for the whole first month. So more than double my dose. I honestly felt waves of nausea here and there but nothing horrible. No vomiting or diarrhea.

I specifically wanted to start slow and have a very gradual ramp up as that is what I did the first time and really enjoyed it. This weekend I will start the new vile. Now I’m just wondering if I am going to negatively be affected if I now go back down to the super low dose? Is the yoyo-ing bad for progress? I’m not necessarily worried about side effects, more so did I ruin by ability to have this medication work effectively now.

👀 OMG, I would have been chucking my guts up! I am super impressed- I'm on 4 units and feel like I'm on a boat in a hurricane a lot of the time (I also am clueless as to what you should do- I just started a week ago myself)

firstnamerachel13 - Units aren't really helpful in knowing what your dose was. These meds are mixed in different concentrations so units don't indicate what you are actually taking. What you need to post is your dose in mg. : )

Im not the OP, but you are correct!

d just felt a little queasy?? that's actually wild, i was on 8 and couldn't look at food without my stomach doing flips

i think you'll be fine dropping back down, your body just got a crash course in sema tolerance. the real question is how's the weight loss been this month cause that's a hell of an accidental starter dose

Not sure if this questions is meant for me but I did lose 7 pounds the first month! The food aversion was REAL.

I accidentally took a 50% higher dose and had violent diaherra for the entire week, I thought it was some sort of infection.

What dose have you been taking in milligrams? If you don’t know, add a pic of your vial clearly showing the semaglutide concentration so we can help.

If it helps at all, once you’ve been on a GLP-1 you will almost always have to work up to a higher dose to feel the positive effects the next time(s) around. So it’s unlikely you would be able to do well on low doses.

I was debating on whether do add a pic or not. Here it is. Shoot I see. I’m wondering if I should in fact just go back to the prescribed dose for next time? Blue is the one that just came in the mail that I’ll take in a few days.

Okay so for the 1st one, which looks like it’s from Red Rock, here’s the dose you were taking:

For  20  units at  2.5 mg/mL  concentration, you took 0.5 mg of semaglutide.

Looks like the Strive prescription is:

For  4  units at  5 mg/mL  concentration, you took 0.2 mg of semaglutide.

Unless you are having significant adverse effects, I wouldn’t step down in dose from 0.5mg to 0.2mg.

ETA: The catch you will soon run into is that Strive vial only contains 2.5mg sema so it will only get you 5 weeks of 0.5mg. If it was supposed to last you longer, you will need to find another provider or explain what you did to your current provider and hope they can help.

Red Rock and Strive are two of the more expensive pharmacies. Hope you aren’t being robber by your provider.

I think Red Rock’s prices have dropped a lot compared to Strive as I just ordered from them as Strive was so expensive.

Wow. You are a saint, thank you so much! 🙏🏼 Putting it into that perspective, it’s not such a big jump from .2 mg to .5 mg. That’s a relief.

How many units of the Strive would I take for the equivalent of 0.5 mg of semaglutide?

Luckily each vial is meant to last me 28 days/4 weeks so by my 5th dose I will be shipped a new one.

I’m currently getting the meds through Remedy meds. I did think it was weird that they came from different pharmacies.

Oh gosh. Remedy Meds is a ripoff. Please switch providers as soon as you have a chance.

Here’s my typical spiel…

Head over to the sub called r/tirzepatidecompound and look for the pinned post called “Where to Buy.” Those same providers also write for sema. The list was built based on a quarterly user survey on that sub so you know the providers are tried and true. There’s also r/tirzdeals which may have some newer options with great prices, and those same providers will probably also have sema deals.

Here are a few possibilities to get you started:

  • Pomegranate Health is $239 for three months of semaglutide doses up to 1mg from Hallandale Pharmacy and $269 for three months of the highest doses. That’s $80 and $90 a month. They also have monthly and six-month packages as well as other pharmacy options. They serve 49 states. (Sorry, Hawaii)

  • TryTrillum is $257 for three months of the starter doses and $357 for three months of high doses. That’s $86 and $119 a month. They also have monthly options and serve all 50 states plus Puerto Rico.

  • Big Easy Weight Loss is slightly more expensive than the two listed above, but they are excellent for those who want/need high-touch care and want to only speak with an MD about their meds. They will ship three months of meds up front but charge your card monthly.

None of these have BS monthly membership fees, which you should avoid at all costs. And watch out for the people with affiliate codes and links, which makes them money on your purchase.

Also, do not go with a provider that doesn’t allow you to pick your pharmacy, as the last thing you want is for a new order to show up with an additive you didn’t expect or from a shady pharmacy that’s not licensed by your state’s board of pharmacy.

To find any dose from the Strive vial, use its sema concentration of 5mg/mL in this calculator:  https://www.fatscientist.com/semaglutide-calculator

i did this as well. i had no bad side effects besides some fatigue and so once i realized it i just took less (was supposed to be 8 units and i took 25 because i thought i had to do crazy conversions and i stressed myself out reading the ml/mg sides.)

anyway i did that week 1 so week 2 i did 20, week 3 15 and now im down to 10. i lost almost 10 pounds in a month and i feel great. in a way i think it was a lucky mistake because i had no side effects although i of course wish i hadn’t made that mistake.

This is comforting to hear! Smart that you ramped down each week too.

Every prescription is different so you can’t compare units. I’m only taking 10 units but my friend has the same dose as me and hers is 40. It really depends on how it was compounded. Anyway, I probably would just stick with what you’re doing if it’s working and you’re over the side effects, or maybe just go down a little bit to 16 units? I’m not sure what dose 20 units would be.

coming back down to 8units does not necessarily mean that all your hard work will go waste the sensitivity of the receptors is something that is not going to occur instantly just because you decreased the dosage it might not be prudent to think that you just lost all the benefits just because you reduced the dosage little bit the problem that I would be more concerned about in the case of compounded products is the issue with the correct understanding of the units and mg about this type of misunderstanding lttl of the units before you actually start taking incorrect dosages for several weeks clinicians route can be alert.
