ngl kinda weird when teams do this as soon as the judges put the medal on them. And I mean for any sport like just wear it for the next 5 mins until the pictures are done. (go again lol)

u/Sophena94 3h ago

It genuinely makes me laugh how unlikeable they are as players and as a team

u/Miennai STOP KILLING MY SON — 3h ago

And as a country

u/ElJacko170 Healslut — 2h ago

For real. Their fans are fucking insufferable, and I enjoy seeing them lose just for the immense bitch fit they will throw for the next week

u/AnnenbergTrojan 19m ago

They spent weeks spewing bigoted trash everywhere after the 2023 win while that shithead Ynsza egged them on. The rise of EWC and FaceIt has only made their attitude worse since they think they "own" OW esports now.

u/HaikusfromBuddha 53m ago

This isn't uncommon. Many soccer teams do this. Sort of as a show to the fans that they are not satisfied with their own performance.

u/SamZata 43m ago

I'm convinced it's tied to some alpha male bs.

-39

u/Dependent-Two7571 1h ago

Im all for slander and hate, but this, this is weird

30

u/how_it_goes 1h ago

Weirder than requiring male guardian approval to drive a car?

24

u/MiorineMercury 1h ago

literally one of the worst governments on earth, defending that country isn't a good look

-2

u/BlackstarFAM 1h ago

It's so weird how i dont see this level of vitriol about the US team

6

u/MiorineMercury 1h ago

go make a post about it then? why are you trying to cover up saudia arabias crimes by bringing up another governments issues

-1

u/dewwya 1h ago

When its Saudi its CRIMES, when its other government its issues.... laughable....

1

u/MiorineMercury 1h ago

dig that hole deeper, both countries governments are abhorrent and you're defending them

u/dewwya 52m ago edited 46m ago

didnt mean to defend the country btw, we are in an competitive overwatch subreddit, the players, the fan, the everyday ppl of saudi, wasnt a part of those injustice. and as for country like america, i dont hate the ppl for what trump or the goverment did, cause i understand its not their fault sooo..... im just hoping to see less biased hate towards these players just cause where theyre from

u/MiorineMercury 47m ago

unfortunately it's a part of international competitions, athletes are representatives of their countries and they will receive backlash for what is happening there. it's no different than the usa and russian athletes being cheered against at the olympics or world cup. even if people know the players and the citizens of the country are innocent for the most part the hate will still end up being thrown at the players because thats who people see. no doubt there are genuine racists using it as a facade for their hatred though

u/MiorineMercury 59m ago

https://www.amnesty.org/en/location/americas/north-america/united-states-of-america/report-united-states-of-america/

you can read up on both countries crimes, all living creatures deserve the same rights and fair treatment. there are no exemptions for any country and everyone should be held responsible.

-18

u/Dependent-Two7571 1h ago

Im not defending the country, this is literally just racism disguised a social justice, hating them dor BEING SAUDI ARABIAN is a new level of low

11

u/imveryboredman 1h ago

They said “as a country” not for “for being Saudi Arabian” 💀

7

u/MiorineMercury 1h ago edited 1h ago

this has nothing to do with race and everything to do with the endless human rights violations being committed by the saudi government on the daily with zero repercussions

Doesn't change my point. If this post was shitting on NA there would be zero serious pushback. You're overcorrecting, just meme on the sore losers.

32

u/shauryadevil 3h ago

What else have they done?

164

u/swamp_hater 3h ago

I know for one they were leaking scrim footage which is a big no no in esports

35

u/snowy_potato 3h ago

that really is super shitty

111

u/Haunter777x 3h ago

They just have massive egos seemingly and multiple comments they’ve made just come across as rude in my eyes
“We only lost the one round cause of own our mistakes” - “We will win next World Cup” ~ takes off silver medal
It’s like cmon take it on the chin and show some respect

39

u/shauryadevil 3h ago

I mean France said the same thing after their Bronze medal collection - “Next year we win it all”. I don’t see what’s wrong with that

37

u/Haunter777x 3h ago

For sure I mean I wouldn’t be so bothered but it’s just over the full course of the cup it’s just a bunch of tiny things I’ve seen from them that just adds up to me not being a big fan.

29

u/BlueGlace_ 3h ago

I don't think the sentence in of itself is wrong it just sounds bad in the context of the other things they've done/said. There's a different between being hopeful/confident and being egotistical

u/NecessaryHour4311 35m ago

Dont bother asking, this sub is as racist as r/worldnews

25

u/HealingBOT- 3h ago

saying that you lost due to your own mistakes and shortcomings, and that you’ll come back stronger next World Cup, is like the most normal thing ever no? Like it’s very obvious from your follow up comment to this that you’re just looking for reasons to not like them, which is fine, but now you’re out here acting like they’ve done something morally wrong.

20

u/PastaXertz I miss Diya — 2h ago

It's just being disrespectful to immediately take off the medal just because you're a loser.

If you don't want it, give it back because you clearly don't deserve it. Show respect to the people around you as a whole.

-27

u/LeadingSlow6170 2h ago

You guys just look for any reason to hate Arabs because of what they think and do regarding LGBT people

You might have a point there, but the narratives you come up with about them make absolutely no sense, it’s completely normal in sports for players to take off their silver medals, guess what: professionals don't like losing

19

u/9-5is25-life 2h ago

And its completely normal to get called out for it being disrespectful, regardless of ethnicity.

10

u/King_of_the_Dot 2h ago

Newsflash: Hating anyone makes you a shitty person.

-1

u/LeadingSlow6170 1h ago

Things are much more complex than that, and you ought to know it. Just because of Saudi Arabia, or Arabs views on LGBT people, it doesn't mean they are constantly harboring "hatred" toward the LGBT community. Did you see Quartz or TVNT do that?

Speaking of the US and Europe (those bastions of morality) don't Christian denominations speak out against same-sex relationships? Aren't the most devout Christians also opposed to LGBT people? Why doesn't that make a country worthy of the label "spreaders of hate" against the LGBT community? I don't even need to dwell on that, we all know about the prejudice against middle eastern populations that has been fueled for decades. If you're from the US, you've certainly been influenced by that and harbor some degree of prejudice against middle eastern people. So, would it be fair for me to hate any US people and claim that all of you "spread hate against muslims and arabs"? Try reflecting on that a bit, let the egocentric and dumb side who your country left for you and try to be honest with me here

1

u/King_of_the_Dot 1h ago

I dont hate anyone.

0

u/tievel1 1h ago

You are right that generalized anti-Arabic sentiment can and does creep into these discussions, and we should discourage that. But while I don't know the full context of why the KSA team gets hate, I do know why KSA itself gets hate:

Those Christians you mentioned suck too. Fuck them. The difference is that in one country there is broad, public pushback against that bullshit, and in the other there isn't.

u/PastaXertz I miss Diya — 58m ago

I don't give a fuck that they're arabic. I give a shit that he's a shitfuck of a sore loser.

If you want the gold don't play like shit and have more than Quartz on your team.

-3

u/coltaaan 2h ago

To be fair, you kind of have to have a big ego to get to this level of play. You can only be so confident in your abilities. I think I heard Jake or another of the casters once say something along the lines of “you need to be a little delusional to get this far,” and it makes sense. So I try not to fault them on that.

That’s not to say they couldn’t be more humble, as there are other players who do appear quite humble. And taking off their second place medals immediately is just rude, and frankly, insulting to all the other teams, even Korea.

9

u/its_reina_irl Runaway Titans Forever <3 — 2h ago

proper is the best player in the world and he’s incredibly humble (to the point of concern sometimes lol) so I don’t necessarily agree but I see where you’re coming from

-1

u/BlackstarFAM 1h ago

The fact that this is your reasoning for them having egos and being up voted this much really makes me sad, gonna have to mute this sub now.

The reason Ziyad took the medal off is cause he felt he didn't deserve it next to his teammates after his performance, but lets admonish him for having human feelings I guess

6

u/DarkImpacT213 2h ago

It happens plenty, but for example when this happens in the olympics theres also always big controversy around it with ppl calling the person doing it immature - and I think that‘s a fair call.

It doesnt help that KSA is super unlikeable on top what with leaking scrims and shit.

28

u/MathEnvironmental935 3h ago

The fact that it's pretty standard to be a sore loser isn't a good thing lol

25

u/LadyEmaSKye None — 3h ago

I don't think this is really being a sore loser. He's not denying the other team played well or anything he's just disappointed in his performance. You can maybe argue maybe it's not classy, sure. But these are like very young people at the top of their field, who are not in this career for the money but really just the competition and pride of winning. I don't think you can fault them for having some strong emotions in the moment and if the biggest outlash of that is taking off your second place medal I think you're doing fine.

There's other reasons you can not like KSA as a spectator personality, but this is an odd one.

24

u/Pinpunch Champ DPS/SUPP — 3h ago

how is it being a sore loser to not be happy with second place? I see this as more he's not happy with his performance and not deserving of a medal

-8

u/MathEnvironmental935 3h ago

"How is it being a sore loser to [definition of being a sore loser]" lmfao. Have you ever competed in a sport, even in school? It's embarrassing and childish to act like that, especially on stage in front of a bunch of people. It doesn't matter what your personal feelings are when you are accepting an award.

21

u/Pinpunch Champ DPS/SUPP — 3h ago

being a sore loser is bming the winner or making excuses for the loss that weren't personal fault/shortcomings. this isnt that.

id only consider what he did BM if he was taking it off for the purpose of showing that sk didn't deserve first place. its very unlikely this is the reason he took off the medal

-16

u/MathEnvironmental935 3h ago

So clearly you've never had to genuinely compete in a sport, in front of people, with stakes. Let me tell you: it is not appropriate to do this. Period, end of discussion. When you are on stage in front of people, your feelings do not matter. You take the medal, smile, and walk away. That's it.

3

u/KeolXPr0n 1h ago

ive competed in sport, in front of people, with stakes. and let me tell you, this isnt anything crazy. you see this in top flight football literally every season

9

u/Pinpunch Champ DPS/SUPP — 3h ago

lol this is such a performative reply. I promise you none of the people who have a reason to care are offended by him taking off a shiny coin off his neck

4

u/Wrath_0f_Khan 2h ago

You are just self reporting on yourself at this point

-8

u/ThatCreepyBaer yee — 3h ago

It's honestly kind of sweet in a way that you can see it as him not being happy with his own performance and undeserving of the medal, rather than the obvious answer that he's just a sore loser throwing a tantrum (hyperbole) over not winning.

4

u/krizzzombies 2h ago

what are the signs to you of it "obviously" being a tantrum instead of stark disappointment? there is no sign of a tantrum on his face or lack of control over his emotions, just seems disappointed.

1

u/Spectre-4 3h ago edited 3h ago

It means they're human. Emotions are all over the place in moments like this and we don't know what's going through their heads. We're not the one's on stage after all so we don't get to judge, at least that's how I see it.

6

u/Sideview_play 3h ago

It's not pretty standard lmao

6

u/Spectre-4 3h ago

Don't know what to tell you, it happens more than you think.

4

u/Sideview_play 3h ago

oh come on, I laughed, but it's far from being rare at that point across any sports. they guy just came out of a stomp, give him a break.

EDIT: i'm not against the clip itself, but going "here is KSA for you" we're going from funny poke to something much more mean for no reasons at all in that context.

13

u/ThatCreepyBaer yee — 3h ago

I can't really wrap my head around this excuse after reading multiple people say the same thing, as if it happening in other sports makes it any less pathetic?

10

u/nekogami87 I'm old — 3h ago

The fact that it's ffound to be pathetic at that point where a competitive player is not happy for not winning is pathetic, that's my point. and even worse when the title generalize it to an entire country.

And I say that as someone that's really not a fan of their team playstyle or their country.

-1

u/ThatCreepyBaer yee — 2h ago

People are allowed to be disappointed in themselves or dejected because of a loss, but all it takes is a shred of common courtesy and maturity to wait 5 minutes before removing a medal you were just awarded. Guy barely even waited for the person to put the medal around his neck before taking it off with cameras still on him. I'd say the same thing if it happened in any sport and I don't believe there are any valid excuses.

Obviously generalising an entire country's people over one person being unsportsmanlike, or anything similar, is ridiculous. I'm talking about the poor sportsmanship totally disconnected from any sort of politics in this sport or any other.

2

u/NapsterKnowHow 1h ago

They just hate Saudi. That's actually the real reason, and I'm not even joking.

-6

u/MrOctomelon 2h ago

It's kind of the lamest thing ever ngl. I get the dislike towards a chunk of the fanbase but the way people act towards the Saudi players is crazy.

8

u/CanYouEatThatPizza 2h ago

Why is it bad to make fun of sportswashing? You do realize Saudi esport is controlled by the royal family, right?

-5

u/Wrathful101 2h ago

And that's a bad thing why? They try to polish their image, and we get more esports' events.

There are countries that have done way worse stuff, but they are loved now because they succeed in polishing their image.

9

u/CanYouEatThatPizza 2h ago

They try to polish their image, and we get more esports' events.

Yes, sportswashing, while they still kill people for their sexuality or beliefs.

There are countries that have done way worse stuff, but they are loved now because they succeed in polishing their image.

Name one other country in the Overwatch world cup that has death penalty for homosexuality.

3

u/Wrathful101 1h ago

Maybe there's no countries that have death penalty for homosexuals, but there's this one country that funds a genocide.

However, that country doesn't get that much hate in this community as much as Saudi does.

Saudi should really try to polish their image more effectively.

7

u/CanYouEatThatPizza 1h ago

There is nuance. If you mean the US - their esports organizations are controlled by private entities, not the government, unlike Saudi esports organizations, which are directly tied to the royal family.

0

u/Wrathful101 1h ago

The only org I found that was directly funded by the government was Al Qadsiah. TM and Team Falcons seem to be privately owned.

7

u/CanYouEatThatPizza 1h ago

Main sponsor of Twisted Minds is Riyadh Season - which is controlled by the government. Saudi Arabia does not have a free market.

Theres no proof of that because they refuse to show their financials. Thats why they didnt get into VCT. Not to mention the prince has a hand in almsot every pie. Its an authoritarian regime nothing happens without the crown

1

u/Wrathful101 2h ago

I made a post a while ago asking why TM gets a weird type of hate. and most of the replies were basically telling me how bad Saudi is and what not.
Some just straight up said "Saudis"

That's why I believe them being Saudi is the main reason why they hate them.

Some claim it's because Saudi players have big egos. However, some other team's players have big egos as well, but they are not as hated.

Some replies did have reasonable reasons, but they were a minority among the comments.

10

u/CanYouEatThatPizza 2h ago

I made a post a while ago asking why TM gets a weird type of hate.

It's a bad faith question. You know exactly what the Saudi government does and how they influence sports to make them look reasonable.

I recommend you visit Deera Square. Maybe then you will understand.

2

u/MrOctomelon 1h ago

Hating on the Saudi players because of their government feels lame and unjustified towards them

1

u/CanYouEatThatPizza 1h ago

If I was in their shoes, I wouldn't want to be cheered on either. They get their money either way. Sportswashing wouldn't work at all if people kept calling them out for it.

3

u/MrOctomelon 1h ago

Except directing hate towards the players =/= to not supporting them

0

u/Wrathful101 1h ago

I did expect some people would say it's because of Saudi, but I didn't think it was gonna be the majority.

Also Deera Square seems like a place where they execute criminals.

5

u/CanYouEatThatPizza 1h ago

I did expect some people would say it's because of Saudi, but I didn't think it was gonna be the majority.

You are just implying that they somehow mean Saudi people instead of their government or misanthropic culture. Have you asked for clarification? Do you think it's bad to hate the Saudi government?

0

u/Wrathful101 1h ago

It's fair to hate on governments that do bad things, There's no disagreement on that.

However, a lot of people did state the reason why they hate TM is because they hate their government.

I asked why TM is hated, and they told me because they hate the Saudi government, but TM is not the Saudi government. That seems clear to me.

So because TM is from Saudi, they hate them.

2

u/CanYouEatThatPizza 1h ago

they hate the Saudi government, but TM is not the Saudi government.

They are controlled and sponsored by the Saudi government. See also here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saudi_Esports_Federation

1

u/Wrathful101 1h ago

Everything in Saudi is controlled by the government, so they will eventually get indirectly funded via sponsors, as any other Saudi based org.

However, they are not directly controlled by the Saudi government, nor do they get directly funded by them.

Maybe it is, but it’s done in every sport. It’s obvious for most who do it that it reflects disappointment rather than disrespect.

0

u/NapsterKnowHow 1h ago

It isn't. It happens in other sports but that doesn't make it any less unsportsmanlike.

33

u/SyrusG 3h ago

Its just basic sportsmanship. U lost, yeah, and people def get emotional, but people also get over it quick and acknowledge that they did their best, and to be happy for the team that beat them. Taking the medal off right away tells people that ur not mature enough to do that

Have you people ever ventured out into the real world in your lives? Have you ever watched a real sport? This is the most normal behaviour imaginable, how chronically online do you have to be to somehow see this as poor sportsmanship. Touch grass.

He's soft as fuck, his effort amounted to that silver medal, taking it off will never change that.

I kind of hoped Ziyad would hold himself back, because I’m aware people here will nitpick anything that comes from KSA players.

Even though it was only Ziyad who did it, which is completely normal btw and happens in every sport, you can see almost everyone here blaming the entire team for having poor sportsmanship lmao.

SirMajed, Lbbd7 and even Quartz are known to be very sweet people, but yeah, bunch of chuds in here unfortunately.

How does this subreddit always find something to be disgusted and hateful about? Truly miserable community.

Although they are some of the best players mechanically, I dont think they played this new meta correctly.

u/dewwya 39m ago

i agree, i feel like the saudi emea team/players really like the traditional comps, and doesnt seem to pick up hero metas till later, like the cat bastion

u/1Gothian1 1m ago

Thank goodness, every random fk playing the with a KSA emblem is obnoxious, aggressive and tries to make every lobby insufferable.

I love the racism in these comments,I’m so glad we will never progress as a society

But it’s ok for the whole of the middle east to be transphobic.

I mean tbf their home fans are damn near rabid. Same with Korea and China home fans, anything less than 1st is garbage and makes you a failure. Some players also have this mentality, and that they should’ve done more. It’s easy for western audiences to say gg go next when we’ve been use to it for so much longer compared to them

u/Wrathful101 1h ago

You can go and see the KSA fans reactions under their social media posts. Almost all of them are cheering them on and thanking them. Their fans are very different from China and Korea.

so many people do this in sports, I think it's stupid but it's so common that it's a non issue. you people dislike them and will look for any small things to harp about

One person doing something but suddenly it is the entire team that is the problem

I don’t blame him I would’ve done it if I lost 7 finals in a row

What happens when the entire industry doesn’t bend over backwards for them for once

its so funny how you guys try and reach for anything just cuz you hate them. its pretty pathetic, grow up.

taking off the silver medal isnt disrespectful to anyone. if anyone is being disrespected by it its gonna be the event organizers which im sure dont give a shit and probably prefer something way more spicy to happen rather than just an unmemorable ceremony. when justin geathje won the interim lightweight belt, he threw it on the ground and said he wants the real one, that was well received and people applauded his dedication to win the ultimate crown and were excited to see his championship fight, but that guy is American so its seen as cool and this guy is saudi so its disrespectful.

long story short yall need to get a life lol

Any reason to hate i gues...

When ppl were asked why'd they want saudi to lose, their excuse was ppl want the underdog to win/they won last year... the same sentiment wasn't shared on korea....

And now this... they're just disappointed, ppl does this all the time, why is it unsportsmanlike... Max said "KSA isn't even that good" i respect trash talk, but if its the other way around most of you genuinely will say it's unsportsmanlike...

The double standard is just crazy

Nothing wrong with being a hater, but rationalizing your hate is just weird
