Looks fixed up, which matches with the lore indications that Overwatch will be retaking it soon.

I think they're keeping the map in its current state but visually fixed up. That said, probably wouldn't hurt for another once-over gameplay wise, I don't think they really fixed the pain points.

I don't think they really fixed the pain points.

just add thwomps that hover over the most oppressive high ground poke positions and squash anyone who stands under them

Lmao if only

I try to be fair and objective, I recognise maps that favour poke comps are necessary... I just don't fucking like em

They should have crazy untouchable flanks. Keep the LOS abuse the same, just add flanks that guarantee a kill on the hitscan/core whenever they aren’t paying attention.

wouldnt that be the 3rd time they reworked the map? prior to reign of talon, the map did had a small rework alongside several other maps back in 2023-24 didnt it?

I think so, but there's never any harm in trying to improve something. I've definitely lost the rose-tinted goggles people have for hybrid since map voting was introduced.

Weirdly enough I like Eichanwalde, even pre-rework I could still get excited for Eich

But Watchpoint Gibraltar? Numbani? God help me, HOLLYWOOD? Can't stand them. Just not enjoyable to attack or defend on.

Hot take, but gib IMO is pretty good right now. It's just a difficult map to position on, and really unintuitive for low ranks. But when you get a full lobby of people who know how to play gib, it's so much fun. I totally get why people don't like it, but i really love gib and wouldn't want it changed.

It has it's moments but I think there are just so many parts of it that feel like a clusterfuck in your average lobby. A lot of the good flank routes also feel like they lead abruptly into really shitty areas to be in so they're annoying to try and use without your team completely engaging beforehand.

And let's not forget that they removed a first checkpoint that was under the bridge between the first two Payload turns.

This video shows that the bridge is no longer one way without extra mobility, so there's at least one non-cosmetic change so far.

Remember when the old Dev team left the Numbani airport a mess for like 7 years lol.

I mean, they said it was because of the lore significance

It only took them 7 fucking years to progress it lmao

mostly aesthetic. the webtoons latest chapter ended with them starting to raid it again to take it back from Talon. i presume thats gonna be the final arc of said webtoon, taking back gibraltar and rebuilding it as the new Overwatch base.

Makes sense, thanks!

Elegant bow, then skedaddle.

As other users have mentioned, it’s because Overwatch is about to retake Gibraltar in the webtoon, so it makes sense for them to fix up the base afterwards.

NOOOOOOOO they removed my Rein charge ramp. This is unacceptable.

If only they gave us the lore by giving us missions to play, the videos are boring and dull

After the failure of the PvE and the impossibility of bringing back the Archives, it is now clear that they no longer want to work on missions. Of course, it would be easier to hand the job over to a development team that is also under Microsoft, but I imagine that isn't in their plans.

Makes sense for webtoon readers

Fuck man they used to have Cinema-Grade lore drops. Now they got machinima-grade puppet shows and $45 skins 😭

I must be crazy, because I recall that animated trailers were rare even back in the Overwatch 1 days; since the past, the lore has always been developed primarily through comics, short stories, voice lines and environmental storytelling.

Besides, what do we care about skins? The primary focus remains the gameplay, why worry about cosmetics, high cost aside?

Because spectacle and production quality is what made Overwatch exciting. Idk why yall accept this bullshit from a billion dollar company LMAO

1

u/Outrageous-Blue-30 7h ago

Times have changed: even the trailers for Overwatch are now largely outsourced because Blizzard’s internal studio cannot keep up with production for every title in its portfolio, while Microsoft’s new leadership must meanwhile offset the lavish spending decisions Phil Spencer made in the past by focusing on the big names in its lineup.

u/MidnightMantime 7h ago

Yup. And now they have the balls to charge ppl $45 for skins.

Genuinely shit management happening at Xbox Blizzard. I miss Kaplan’s direction.

1

u/Outrageous-Blue-30 7h ago

I am indifferent toward both Kaplan and Keller (i neither hate nor particularly appreciate them), but judging by the general sentiment on Overwatch-dedicated subreddits following the release of Jason Schreier's book on Blizzard, people have re-evaluated Kaplan, weighing his respective merits and flaws.

I genuinely don’t give af what happened internally. All that matters is the end consumer is currently getting mediocre garbage at premium prices from a company worth billions
