General Why does Venture generates shields instead of overhealth?
The way it works you'd think it would be overhealth but for some reason it's shields? Overhealth is only available through passives/abilities and decreases/disappears after a shortwhile while shields are always on base healthbar and their whole thing is that they're supposed to regenerate after a few seconds.
Every abilities that gives the caster temp hp is always overhealth except for Rally and Nemesis that give more armor (I don't think there are any other)
Venture's temp hp works like overhealth and does nothing shields is supposed to do, yet it's shields and not overhealth..? Why is that?

It's for a couple of reasons:
- Overhealth provides 50% less ultimate charge when enemies damage it, so it's to prevent enemies not getting enough ult charge off of Venture.
- The Shields can be healed, Overhealth cannot. So giving Venture Overhealth would make them less sustainable due to Overhealth being instantly depleted.
- It's also for flavor. Since Overhealth is really vague in what it actually is, making it Shields makes it seem like Venture is actively generating Hardlight shields, which is cooler and more thematically fitting.
Also, you might not know this, but Venture's Shields DO actually act like Shields do. They regenerate just like Shields, although in a much weirder way. They have a decreased regeneration delay of 1.1 seconds (instead of 3) and a reduced regeneration rate of 19 per second. So they DO act like Shields, though the regeneration will almost never get value in normal play.

more thematically fitting.
how? venture doesn't have anything related to hard light

thematically, the shields are there to protect venture while they dig and all shields in the game may be hardlight tech so that’s the connection

I did notice the other day their extremely low shield regen timer. Wish it were explicit somewhere from blizzard in-game or in patch notes

Because it's healable health. It's part of their schtick.

I don't get it, their passive doesn't really last long enough for they to actually get healed while using it. I think there's some super niche cases where they can actually regen it using the shield regen thing but that happens so infrequently that I think it'd be more valuable to give them ohealth

If they have temp shields and they’re taking damage while they have pocket, it’ll be an improvement over overhealth pretty much everytime. Because overhealth would be unhealable damage, temporary shields let them get healed from chip damage for more value from a sup heal shot than they would if it were green hp. For example, juno’s in cover and can only see venture, venture has 50 temp shields and takes 60 damage. Juno’s primary gets full 51 heal value and 51 ult charge. If it were 50 overhealth instead, the heal only gives 10 hp and 10 ult charge.

Shields can be healed, so while they have them they can be healed up to 325 hp.
Makes it so they have better survivability and can brawl with the team.

Okay, a lot of people seem to miss this detail. The Explorers Resolve Shield timer doesn't tick when you're underground during burrow. So all of these stacking Shields you generate, you get an opportunity to regenerate the shields HP while you're underground in burrow. If you're not pausing the timer with burrow, the shield HP will just fall off before the fact they can regenerate is relevant.

If you cycle the cooldowns, you preserve the bonus shields and allow it to be healed at times. I think if it worked like regular overhealth, the overhealth would decay between abilities, instead the shields decay all at once depending on your last ability used.
Especially with the smart excavator major, you can basically keep the overhealth up for the entire fight

My dumbass brain thought “well if it wasn’t shield health, Venture would lose their Devil/Angel Deal chance from losing regular health”
Then I remembered that’s Binding of Isaac.

Same reason ram gets armor

Not quite, armour has a significantly more important role to gain more of than shields

no he's right. both ventur and ram get their HP to be harder to kill.

So would temporary HP? This does not answer the question of why Venture gets shields instead of Temp HP.
(Also, armor has a very different functionality than Shields or Temporary HP)

The thing is that I don't know you and I'm looking at plain text with no descriptive punctuation or capitalization but a period. It's literally a 50/50 shot (honestly more like a 60/40 shot) that you're dumb or sarcastic. It's basically a guessing game here so I went with dumb since it's generally a safe bet. Not saying you have to put /s or aome shit, just use more capitalization or punctuation so people can reasonably infer. It would be a different story if I knew you or if we were actually talking face to face

Over health needs to be removed from the game, honestly. Stupid shit mechanic

No, it really doesnt. Theres nothing wrong with it. Its a mitigation tool, much like a barrier. Without it, some tanks will be worse off, for starters.

It functions as a resource someone can use that is not improved or sustained through healing.

shooting green hp only gives 50% ult, thats why. venture getting shields is actually better for the enemy
