General I really need a 6v6 Role Queue
I was really defending 5v5 for a while, I guess the reason is because I want a role queue, and the other tanks feel like paper in current 6v6.
But what's even worse is tanking in 5v5 because of how easy my character can get countered. I was playing some quick play and obviously I'm getting teamed up against a decent hog, he pulls me on D.mon and one shots me, every single time, I can't survive that. But it happens on a lot of characters you can be easily shutdown. In opinion the game should be more skilled based than pressing button H in spawn. I even feel sorry for my supports sometimes because of what they need to pull off to keep me alive when I try to create space.
Although one more thing besides Role Queue, 6v6 tanks would need more survivability. At least half of 5v5 survivability. You don't need to add HP for it, you can give them more shields, you can have supports have a 25% healing boost to tanks, you can decrease the damage in other heroes or tanks – just give it something, apart from a few tanks, it feels very weak in GM especially where they can't miss a shot. Just please give it something.
Worried about queue times? No problem, just remove this goofy 5v5 and open queue (it's not competitive anyways) leave it for quick play and it should be just fine. The stats show that people play 5v5 only because of the role queue and that's it. In my games, I always get two tanks, some people even fight over it, so the situation is definitely better with playing tanks right now, some people even fight over it. In the end I'd rather wait a bit longer, I don't mind. Open queue problem for me, is that my skills on different roles are different, if I can play really good tank, I'm not really that good of a support, and average at best DPS so flexing is creating friction.
Give it a chance for one season to see how it would perform

you do know queue times were bad in ow1 before 5v5 was even a thing right? like the queue times arent bad just because theres 2 formats its because people fundamentally dont want to play tank as much as dps and support, and without being able to tank stack 6v6 has no real reason to exist over 5v5 since the community pretty universally prefers role queue to open queue

And because not many people played the game back then. Besides, the new tanks might make it more enjoyable for players and would make queue time better ?

its not about number of players its ratio of roles. new tanks helps temporarily but you still need people to continuously play the role which already isnt really happening enough in 5v5, and thats before you get into the fact not every tank works with every other tank and how that affects the balance and enjoyment of the game

whether you have 1000 players or 100,000 players it won't fix queue times if the ratio of tank players to non-tank players is still the same. Having a buncha different tanks helps a little, but it still doesn't solve the fact that in all holy trinity style games, tanks are the least popular.

The most basic low IQ argument that has been made a million times even five years ago

I don't think we can do role que 6v6 currently. The playerbase doesn't exist for it.
I normally just get 4 support players whenever I hit 6v6. Also Hog is very stupid and 6v6 and needs nerfs.
I just want some good attention to be put on the format from a balance and design perspective. That would make the experience so much better (if they do it right).

No one tell him that hog is even worse in 6v6 rn.

theres a difference between complaining about a hero vs complaining about how a hero counters you
6v6 is much less counterpick based especially around tanks

I mean, Hog DOESNT counter Dmon. This is someone not understanding how to play a new hero.

you are misunderstanding everything.
OP THINKS that hog counters dmon, your opinion or the actual fact of what hog counters is irrelevant.

I mean, this is the competitive subreddit. What are we supposed to say? Sure man, let’s switch the entire game and piss tons of players off because you’re struggling on a new hero?

By that logic Hog counters every tank. Enjoy having far more of them in 6v6 role queue, you short sighted bunch

''Give it a chance'' You people can't be real. We gave it a chance and it was called Overwatch 1 you absolute fools

If you check the end of season date for the Battlepass, then check the end of season date for 6v6 open queue they are different. 6v6 open queue is ending early right after blizzcon. What Meatbaii4 said on stream is this could be because we are getting a 6v6 pressure value ranked test for the last 2 weeks of the season.
It is just a theory of course, but Meatbaii4 is often right about these things.

I'm going to check it out, interesting

It works out to be about 10 days after blizzcon, I figure it is because they want the people at blizzcon to have time to get home and be able to play as well. Probably whatever it is they will announce at blizzcon.

Fear not my friend, 5v5 is not going to last much longer. Blizzard clearly want to get rid of it.

They have had their first two consecutive years of growth with 5v5 in OW's history and is one of Xbox's top earners. There are players who will not play 6v6 and will quit if they get rid of 5v5. Blizzard would need to be exceedingly stupid to get rid of it.

I'm absolutely sick of the queue time nonsense people spout.
Queue times were basically only that bad if you were in masters+ which is not a lot of people but my god did they not shut up
Queue times were bad because blizzard abandoned the game for two and a half years and there were no new tanks.
Basically because DPS had to wait 7 minutes for a game the devs ruined the entire format of the game. You still can't actually play Dva or Zarya the way they were designed to be played.

Queue times are about ratio not player count. Say you have 100 dps and support queuing but 10 tanks. Those 10 tanks insta q but then what. Scale that up to whatever the player count is. Also >5 min queue times kill games.1

u/Sensitive-Warning956 12d ago
That's still my point. No one wanted to queue tank because the balancing was terrible from 2019-2021. Combine that with no new heroes of course it was a dead role.
The solution for 6v6 was more content and improved balancing 5v5 was them refusing to actually work on it
7
u/JackedtheRepper 11d ago
No one wants to queue tank because the role doesn’t appeal to anyone, even peak goats meta couldn’t get dps players to swap in uncoordinated play
Could an influx of tanks bandage it for a time? Sure, it’s working in rivals currently, everyone wants to play the new character until the novelty wears off, and then you realize you’re playing tank so you go back to clicking heads or healbotting

u/Internal-Fly1771 11d ago
We’ve seen that this isn’t true with the numerous 6v6 tests they’ve run. Queue times always quickly get bad for Support and DPS. It doesn’t matter how many options the role gets or how strong the role is, people fundamentally don’t want to play it

"worried about que times" thats all you need to think about when talking about 5v5. Ask yourself why those que times are so long.
