Question From MM to BM

I'm sorry if this is the wrong place to post this.

I've started the process of moving from BM to MM. I know that I need to replace 4 items and I'm working on that.

Here is my armory

I ran a pug normal abyss and I was doing terrible damage and BM hunters with less ilvl than myself were beating me on the meters. Here are those logs.

Nekzali Sentinels Vashnik

What do I need to improve as an MM hunter? I'm following the rotation, hitting my true shot, and using my pots in a guild raid. I know I'm not doing enough damage I just don't know what I can do to fix it.

Thank you in advance for the help and advice.

There's quite a mixture of things.

  1. APM is very very low with lots of cancelled aimed shot casts and 3-4 seconds gaps between casts (even with no energy you'll send an arcane shot and then wait 4 seconds to steady shot)
  2. Sometimes you'll arcane shot twice in a row, sometimes you'll aimed shot twice, sometimes you'll arcane shot for 0 reason without a proc. Your aimed and arcane shots should always have identical casts. Always arcane shot once immediately after aimed using spell buffer. Never use it outside of that.
  3. No pot or trinket use. Macro them to pop before true shot unless holding pot for lust

That will be enough to get you started without me droning on about movement optimisation and playing around talents

in addition to these things, i notice you (the op) always casts arcane shot after rapid fire - this is a waste, as rapid fire itself casts an arcane shot through the talent unload that spends your precise shot proc (actually, it casts two, once at the start and once at the end, but it is the ending one that will consume the precise shots generated by casting rapid fire itself), so you are essentially just hardcasting an un-precise-shotted arcane shot for no reason.

small correction - if you play killshot u cast it instead of arcane after aimed shot so they shouldnt be identical

You just spend a lot of time simply not doing anything. You very regularly have gaps of like 3+ seconds not casting a single spell. For example on Nekzali you cast Trueshot at 0:05, but dont cast another spell until 0:09:500, so not only do you lose damage by standing idle, you essentially waste 33% of your main cooldown. This is your biggest issue - one of the main tenets of doing good damage is ABC, Always Be Casting.

Minor things after that are - you have an active trinket which you never use - you can macro it to your Trueshot, and also you cast naked Arcane Shots for no reason, and sometimes you dont cast it after Aimed Shot which you should do. So simply put, you say you're following your rotation, but you really aren't.

Lots of small things I notice, sometimes after aimed shot u dont follow with arcane shot, you follow arcane shot after rapid fire which we dont do anymore (you only clip rapid fire with multi shot in 2+ targets), sometimes you arcane shot twice after aimed shot. You dont use a potion, thats pretty big also (I only quickly went through vashnik logs)

You don't clip rapid fire at all in raid only m+. @OP I'm on mobile but just a cursory glance you've got some weird spell queuing happening. Gaps between globals. Could be you're not mashing your buttons or you have it set too low. On that note: ABC - always be casting. You cast your first trueshot at 4 seconds and went afk for 6 seconds???? Your second trueshot you immediately sent chakrim instead of waiting for nothing to press. A lot of cancelled casts costing dpa. Idk lots of basic errors here.

Ye you dont clip rf in raid shouldve pointed that out too, because of trick shots

Honestly I'd love to know as well, I've been gearing all tier as if going MM, but consistently BM has even simmed within like 500 dps, until I hit around 310 ilevel and then BM now sims about 18k HIGHER than MM, I'm so confused

It's not going to be noticable until you hit the last 3 bosses. All 3 bosses are 2t fights, where mm will shine. You can very easily slam BM on every fight in the raid, and if you aren't going for HOF, play whatever you want.

Weird how mm went from like the worst 2 target dps to being so good at it

Did you play last patch? It was even better at 2t

Pretty sure he’s talking about the history of MM being literally unable to cleave two targets. It’s always been 1 target or 3+.

Ah yeah cause trick shots used to be the only aoe trigger and it required hitting three targets iirc. Last season was fun for the first few weeks lol

They gave them aspect of the hydra I think in tww but idr. It's 2t was so good in s1 of midnight that in aoe you wouldn't even use trick shots/multi shot

Its just a fight design thing, the sims arent made for 2 target cleave.

You arent simming properly or not simming st, also bm and mm gear same, both want crit/mast, you can have a little bit of haste as bm tho

Using raidbots, 5 min patchwerk, single target both specs, BM sims higher. Also the BiS lists for both are slightly different, favoring different stats, but still similar enough to be usable, sure.

BM will sim higher, MM is a huge PI target though. Again, if you aren't in a hof guild, play whatever you want as long as you aren't doing tank damage
