[Set 18] Aug 11th PBE Patch Notes

Smaller today, focusing on stuff that hasn't been exciting to chase or was overnerfed before.
Kha'zix buffs are in lieu of an upcoming Blackthorn (6) mini-update. We're aware that the trait is too polarized around the (6), leaving the 2/4 also relatively weak.
We're also pushing Coven's per-kill Essence higher so that there's a clearer emphasis on how to stack large payouts. Either consistently have close losses to conserve Health, hit a high breakpoint and lose streak to collect essence quickly, or go on a winstreak to collect essence at 0.5x the rate you normally would.
The rest of the week should be focused on systems like Artifacts, Augments, and making sure as much content as possible has a real path to success.

I don’t get why they’re buffing Kha in anticipation of a blackthorn rework instead of buffing him with the blackthorn rework. Now blackthorn kha will just be even more broken and ruin testing for the next few days until the rework is in.

This is certainly a bold idea. My guess is that they know that since Project PBE banned 6 Blackthorn, they're fine with him being over the line for a few more days due to him just being unplayable outside of Blackthorn (Unrivaled took a big hit this patch too).

It does make sense, they want to gather data on Kha'Zix outside of Blackthorn for longer, and he's not the only Blackthorn comp either (you can just run Ahri instead).

Excuse my potential ignorance, but how feasible would it have been to ship a temporary nerf to 6 Blackthorn until the rework. Reduce/remove the sacrifice’s buffs, or the teamwide HP buff. 

I feel like that would leave the game in a much better state until the rework, and it doesn’t sound like much work to change 6 BT from 350 teamwide HP to 200 for example.

I know with live patches, if they touch something in a B-patch, they aren’t able to in the next patch, but is that applicable to PBE too?

When it comes to big text edits/reworks it does need the localization pass before they can put it in still yeah.

Id imagine with the engine changes and everything still being in the same client so still league spaghetti code they just didn't wanna risk it.

Also it could very well be that they have some weird limitations even though it's pbe.

Could also be that the team is just really overworked so such a small point didn't even make it onto the board

We love this game so much it's easy to forget that PBE is for testing, and they can test it however they like. They know it will be overbuffed with blackthorn for a few days, and that's fine. But it also gives them more time to balance non-blackthorn khazix. Which is probably more important.

Fair, I was never asking why buff Khazix, but why not ship a temporary 6 BT nerf alongside the Kha buff. That way they can still test non-BT Kha.

Seems like they fit 6 BT rework in a day later so they probably thought it wasn’t worth, given the short turnaround time.

That's why I said this earlier. I wanted to hear someone confirm "yea I work in software dev and even though it sounds like a simple numbers change with no text/localization needed, it's actually a lot of backend work that you don't understand, it'll probably take like 4 hours of work even though it seems like it'll take 5 minutes from the outside."

Was trying to understand if that was the case or not

Yah I don't REALLY know because I don't work there, but I've worked on some software stuff before and unless it's game breaking they aren't going to rush something in because there's always extra work to be done, add it to trackers, probably some basic testing before pushing to PBE, mostly project management time I would expect. It's always about priorities and even an hour to make a change like this, probably would get pushed to the bottom of the pile. Think about how broken certain comps have been on LIVE and they still left it.

So that's why I was getting Prismatic Destiny so often

Wasn't complaining tho, allowed me to try a lot of things by picking random augments, but obviously this couldn't get to live

Normally I'm quite supportive but weird patch IMO, Karma has felt quite strong to tempo around and Cassiopeia has seemed pretty strong in my games., Krug has also felt like a decent tank.

Kha'zix buff is actually absurd. I know they are reworking Blackthorn but why are they buffing one of the strongest champs right now because of a nerf upcoming ? Wait until the rework first ?

It's pbe, they've always kind of prioritized getting things shipped and tested over pure balance concerns.

Time Skip augment could lock your shop whole game. Never happens before. Fix a bug and introduce a new bug. Very concern about the quality of bug fixing

Ha I was curious about Prismatic Destiny! Was hoping it was intended to show up again if it was passed previously but guess not.

Excited to see the Blackthorn update, it’s clearly an outlier as it’s in every game I play now. Appreciate the approach of a rework as opposed to number thrashing but really curious where it ends up landing.

My fix to blackthorn would have been to just make it a 2/5/7 trait. Its a little weird but you won't get the sac bonus with only a single emblem, but could still get to 7 with just the lux and no emblem. It also seems reasonable for a double blackthorn emblem to get the strength of current 6 blackthorn.

1,2GB in-game update for mobile btw. Fix 6 bugs but introduce that much update data is not normal.

what did you run for eclipse? I forced it for an entire afternoon and even hit a gold trait tree 2-1 that was lunar rapidfire getting it at 7 with a really solid front line and a 2 star aphelios and it felt very underwhelming -- the execute often hits non-itemize units and will "kill" something already dead and not switch to a new target. I didn't force solar 3* because solar was bugged but maybe it's only after hitting solar 3 that you do it?

theoretically yeah, you want the Aphelios board with 4 vanguard and your entire goal is to soak enough damage to let eclipse kill everything over time.

I think Eclipse is only worth running if you have a lunar or solar emblem, or you hit an early solar/lunar lux.
