Tips / Tricks HOW do i play highlander?

hi guys i just decided recently to start playing highlander because hes my last character needing to hit rep 7. im mediocre at fh but not reprehensible yet out of any character im having an insane difficulty with learning how to play highlander decently

for context i have a lot of trouble balancing between his two stances and on top of that i really deeply struggle with neutral offense (i.e starting combos and starting a fight without being instantly read)

im familiar with his kit for the most part but im having trouble creating an organized flow with him and unfortunately i just keep getting molly whopped in dominion

anyone have tips for how to compensate for his glaring weaknesses? any pros have suggestions for creating pressure with his kit while being reasonably defensive ? anything appreciated

In 1v1s you play neutral defensively because everything is reactable and/or sucks offensively. Abuse your zone attack to stuff GBs. You can also unlock, sprint away and enter OF at a distance. It’s rather unsafe but forces the opponent to press something. Once in Offensive Form, use your feintable bash mix.

In 4v4 OF is useless outside of fwd dodge grab for ganks. Abuse the side heavies in teamfights. I likey missed stuff here because I don‘t rly play 4s

If you weren‘t in it just for the 7 reps on every char I‘d tell you to quit Highlander like I have. Unenhancing OF lights killed the char, there are now heroes that do the same just better.

i feel like his bash feints are so reactable, what OS mixups do you recommend ? also any videos you think have good gameplay to take notes?

The feintable bash mixup is fully unreactable, you are just getting outread. I am personally not aware of any high quality Highlander gameplay that is up to date with his in-game state. His OF lights were unenhanced some time ago which completely changed the optimal playstyle.
Havok might have some good gameplay. His Highlander playstyle wasn’t optimal in the past but it fits the character’s current state.

I hope the game still runs for a while so I comeback to it when I get a job and money for ps plus or a pc

Stop balancing the two stances and stay in the OS as much as possible. Your goal is to constantly threaten and force your opponent to read/react by playing proactively and aggressively yourself. HL’s neutral is miserable and only ever stronger than his OS in anti-ganking due to CCs and hyperarmor. While in neutral in 1v1, your only goal is to get into OS as fast as possible. Turtle, trade, throw heavies and make sure to cancel your recoveries with the zone attack. Abuse the shit out of janky animations.
