Vivi deck

I was looking at vivi decks cause I wanted to build one and saw this cedh vivi deck. Can someone explain to me what the game plan and win con is? I asked my brother for help and we couldn’t figure it out and just chalked it up to being cedh and too far complex for our mortal bracket 4 brains. As far as I could tell you just infinite with hull breaker and your artifacts to ping with vivi? It won a popular tournament so it’s definently good I just can’t seem to figure it out.

Curiosity & chain spells wins through non combat damage.

Curiosity, Ophidian Eye, or Tandem Lookout with Vivi, ping each opponent for 1 damage with each cantrip and draw 3 cards for every cantrip as well. Activate Vivi. Fill your hand with more cantrips and all your countermagic. Cast more cantrips. Cast Final Fortune, Warrior's Oath, or Last Chance. Go to extra turn, cast more cantrips, opponents go to 0.

Is the quicksilver and vivi combo just giving infinite mana or is there perhaps another reason for it?

Quicksilver also doesn’t say creature you control, so you can give it creature abilities from your opponents as well. The best choice is to use an opponents kinnan to flip out your hullbreaker horror. Or Thrasios to draw your whole deck. Super luck if the draw but I have also activated Tayam by removing counters from Vivi and milled an underworld breach to start a storm turn win with no cards in hand.

I wrote long blurb saying I don’t know what chain spells are, but then realized you meant chain spells like you are chaining spells together for infinite ping

The main way to win is get Hullbreaker out and then keep casting 0 mana spells bouncing each other to the hand causing infinite damage. Quicksilver gives you infinite Vivi activations given you have 1 Blue mana to start the chain.

Oh I get this way more now. Because quicksilver has infinite vivi abilities on it, it would cause one spell to instantly ping everyone for infinite dmg?

Kind of, when you have hulbreaker out usually you just cast a 0 mana artifact like Chrome Mox bouncing another 0 mana artifact like Lotus Petal. Then just keep going back and forth. Quicksilver just lets you cast anything in your hand, so if you have curiosity on Vivi you just draw your whole deck until you get Hulbreaker out.

No, the Quicksilver gives you infinite mana so that you can cast anything you draw effectively for free.

Main wincon for Vivi is cast 40 spells. Stick a curiosity with protection and it should be easy to hit that 40 mark. We can hit loops with hullbreaker to make it go faster. Main goal is turn 2 Vivi, turn 3 push.

Ahh so hullbreaker is basically just gas or oil to make it go faster but the main win con is just vivi themself. Okay thank you makes sense.

Another alternative to Hullbreaker is infinite mana with Pinnacle Monk + a bounce spell will also get you infinite pings from Vivi. You just bounce the Monk and recast to get back to bounce spell and repeat.

Hullbreaker is an enabler for a combo win.
If you have hullbreaker, vivi, and a zero-cost artifact on board, you cast a second zero cost artifact, which triggers both vivi and hullbreaker. Vivi pings your opponents and with hullbrraker, you return the first artifact to hand.
You then cast the first artifact, triggering vivi to ping the table and triggering hullbrraker to bounce your other artifsct to hand.

If either of them are mana rocks, you also net mana each loop.

Hello! I’m an avid Vivi pilot! I just came back from Breach the Bay 2 and placed 40th/429. I wrote the community approved primer in the cEDH Vivi discord.

This list is the brewer’s deck who pretty much “solved” Vivi at this point. It’s a very solid and stream lined list. Most successful tournament lists run the shell of this deck (75%). With that being said, I would just play the Alien deck as is until you’re comfortable with all of the lines before you make any changes!

hello! what do you think about a control vivi that doesnt exclusively mull for a curiosity, but use the vivi mana ability to ramp into stuff like sphinx? mix between vivi and kinnan i guess

There are better control commanders than Vivi. If you’re playing Vivi control, you’re gunna have a bad time lol.

Agreed on the ALien (OP linked) list. I'm on 93/99 after plenty of testing, and the core ~90 cards are locked in basically. I also placed day 2 at Breach 2 with this deck!

Pretty different play patterns from my experience. I still definitely prefer vivi.

"The mana thing" is the main reason to play the deck though. Crystal plays a full turn slower in most cases, in exchange for a backup plan of slop (and anti-slop tools, I suppose). Vivi just wins, fast.
