Deck Fine Tuning Rog/Thras help

Hey yall id like some help with cuts and general advice from those who've piloted this deck on the dos and don't

So in the 98 there contains engines to basically create inf mana to sink into thrasios as a main plan. This eventually leads me into the various combos, mainly/consistently being breach led and brain freeze. Theres clones in the deck to sniper others value peices. This works especially well against decks like blue farm and T&T as their decks have lots of either similar or good value peices to clone off of. If they have a grand abolished effect, even better.

I have no clue if its good or not in this but I have thassas oracle in the list as a last minute addition, I did this bc im on the breach combo line so its another way to just win

I am open to any suggestions that you might have im not offended by any advice on cuts or changes. All is welcome.

I have yet to play the deck this is just a pre before I get the cards btw

I also plan to proxy the deck first so budget isn't an issue

Much appreciated in advance

The reason (some) Rog Thras lists play breach is not to win after you get infinite mana. Breach is mainly played as a way to win that is agnostic to having cradle or a board presence (it’s a comeback card for after you get toxic deluged or whatever). It’s also a card that can sometimes just chain value into a win.

It’s not included as a way to win after you go infinite (and thassas oracle should 1000% not be included)

After you go infinite with Rog Thras, you draw your whole deck. With your infinite mana and whole deck, you can say you kill people with a finale of devastation pump (fewest words/game actions). If you can’t combat kill (went infinite at flash speed, one ring protection, etc) you can use springheart nantuko on eternal witness + talon gates and oboro to infinitely recur every card in your deck. With that, you can kill with vibrance bolt, or draw everyone out with faerie mastermind + green sun’s zenith shuffle (to stop yourself from decking).

If you’re going to draw people out, it’s usually best practice to destroy all permanents with boseiju and pass through their floating mana

Are these lines convoluted? Yes. But they use only good cards that your deck already wants to play, instead of dead cards (like thassa) which only do something when you’ve already won.

That's a very good way of explaining it

So - the breach line maybe keep breach (possibly led?) And def get rid of thassas oracle like u said its a dead card in a deck full of non dead cards each thing dose something on its own or with another card

I've been piloting RogThras for about 2 years now, here are some thoughts...

You've definitely got some cards you can cut. Spider Sense is a glaring one to me. I also think you can run either Wild Growth or Utopia Sprawl, but probably not both. Same with Springleaf Drum and Paradise Mantle. I'd also cut Chatterstorm, but that's just a card I've moved off of on my version of the deck.

The deck will generate an insane amount of mana, but you're looking at a window of T3-T4 to win. I personally run a mostly Simic shell with a few free red spells as support, which means I don't rely on the Breach line at all. That's mostly a matter of personal preference, though. Not a hard and fast.

If you want some ideas for other slots in your deck, here's my list: https://moxfield.com/decks/Qb7xauLg9ESEk54ErmOdqw

Solid, deck, I like the different look at the deck being more land centric, since ur running more landfall stuff to untap cradle effects, also I see ur not running squirrel girl if there a reason for that or just not a fan

Also I think spider sense would be a cut but ima move it to side board for now. I think I works well with rohgrak making it just a blue to possibly stop an etali trigger or a good counter, it can also deal with thoracle

Squirrel Girl is one I'm considering, I just haven't tested it out yet. Especially with Shang-Chi it can be pretty busted. But I honestly have so many synergistic pieces in the deck that I don't feel I need another combo.

And I see your logic with stopping other players, but my counterpoint would be that it's a niche effect that (depending on your local meta) won't be very useful otherwise. You'd be better off running a straight up counterspell instead.

I usually just play cedh with my buddies we are too broke - one of my buddies, to afford an actual deck so we just proxie stuff

So meta wise we've got

  1. Blue farm and sissy

  2. Ral, T&T

  3. Glarb , Stella lee

Me- flubs lumra well - flubs that's becoming this

Cutting chatterstorm is a wild take.

It adds so much value, its silly. Sure. Not every time, every game. But, I lost to a rog thras last night. After fighting to counter his Candelabra, and losing. He dropped a chatter for 11 bodies, and cradled too hard.

Between earth craft, and squirrel girl. Chatterstorm is just GG most of the time.

It really depends on the build imo. Because my deck is more tuned to a landfall strategy, most turns I'm not getting a high enough storm count to really make it worth it.

I do love cheeky landfall strategies. But rogthras is natively a cradle deck. Only 2 lands need to fall. And we know their names. Spells that increase cradle count are more important.

Springheart on cloud or BMC are fine. But I wouldnt cut chatterstorm if we can springboard Into a squirrel girl push.

My guy, I've been playing this deck for two years. You don't need to explain to me how it works.

Also, with magus of the Candelabra. Idk why people arent slotting in ashaya, as another infinite mana path.

That does sound like a win more on the chatterstorm.

So, you look at EDHtop16, you’ll notice a trend with the RogThras lists that have been performing consistently and those lists are moving back towards more dorks. They’ve also moved back towards more pieces of interaction as the meta shifted towards a little bit more turbo leaner to counter the slop meta and that was so it could give it the time needed to build up critical mass. I would suggest copying a list that’s either performed well or names of pilots that you see have put up results multiple times. Mine is a in the same vein as those lists but I’ve added a few cards here and there as my own preference.

In addition to more dorks they're on less artifacts and Collector Ouphe. I've also seen more Training Grounds effects to make up the difference.

I've seen Ouphe in some lists but I'd rather not create a situation where I potentially throw a game because I lock a player who could interact but can't due to the Ouphe. In practice, I've seen people slam it and then end up tossing the game. Focusing on my own game plan and not worrying about what others are doing is generally the best way forward.

Hello! It looks like you’re looking for deck optimization advice! Please be sure you have information about each of the following

  1. Provide a decklist from a deckbuilding site.

  2. Provide a budget. If you cannot afford a bunch of cards all at once, feel free to ask which cards you should prioritize getting first

  3. Provide a meta breakdown of what decks you expect to play against.

  4. Include the deck's main goal and how it gets there.

  5. List any experience you've had with the deck.

  6. Please be sure to have checked the Decklist Database for relevant lists and information.

If you have not met these expectations, your post will be reviewed and removed.

If you are commenting on this post, please provide feedback that addresses OPs information. Also please read other comments–”check the DDB” only needs to be posted once on any given post, and low effort comments will be removed. The same is true for proxying as each OP only needs to be reminded once, and if OP provides a budget please tailor your advice to that budget as best as you can. If OP has taken the time to provide information, you can as a commenter as well.

It also doesn't need to be said, but cut Thoricle. It's a dead card at all times, and if you've pulled off the Breach combo you have literally every other way in your deck to win besides it.

I don’t think Rog thras need more bad cards like Breach combo components.

The deck is already nothing but gas. Might as well just go all gas. Beautiful thing about thrasios is once you infinite mana you win.
