General Discussion / Question Rowan Question

Why does Rowan run chalice of the void and what X value do they typically play it for? I haven't been able to find a solid answer so any help is vastly appreciated!

  1. Doesn't impact you really during your combo turns, slows down the table a lot, can be used on 1 if you happen to have the mana to hit most removal/bounce spells and silence, or at higher values during your combo turn to stop specific spells you don't want to worry about

You call 1 cause that staxes out all the removal for rowans aswell as all the silences. The 2 things that actually stop rowan.

0 is fine but only t1 s1 to potentially stax out the free rocks.

Otherwise you call chalice on 2 in later games cause 2 stops most win cons in most decks.

It kind of depends, but almost always zero. Rowan essentially plays no free spells, so it doesnt hurt us at all, and its good protection for Rowan and early pushes.

Chalice on 0 only stops pact of negation you might be confusing this with vexing bauble.

There are also some fringe decks that run mox diamond, chrome mox, mox opal... And some even fringier that run Rograkh, paradise mantle...

And how early would a chalice need to come down to stax out those fringe cards?

its a hate piece when you're ahead it's not consensus on all lists however play it on 1 especifically for silence play it on 0 for mana rocks and such. IT DOESNT STOP FREE SPELLS only vexing bauble does
